Chapter One

Rex

R ight now I should be focusing on deep diving into Dre King’s past. That’s been my plan since I had my epiphany a few days ago.

Is that what I’m doing? No, because that would mean life would actually be going to plan and not be throwing spanners in the works.

Why do I ever think something won’t crop up and take my attention away from where I want it?

It happens all the fucking time. I should really be used to this shit by now.

Instead of focusing on my research, I’m about to go and deal with the fucking lousiest, most defective law enforcement officer I’ve ever seen in my life.

That’s even with taking into account the most corrupt, inept fuckers that I’ve dealt with in many different countries around the world while working cases, but Detective Benjamin Moore, of the Devil’s Point Police Department, takes the fucking cake for being the worst of the worst.

He’s the most useless, pointless, and shoddy officer of the law I’ve ever seen.

He can’t do his fucking job to save his goddamn life.

He is forever fucking up the cases he works on, normally leading to the perpetrator of said crime walking free and leaving the victims without any form of justice.

I know for a fact that the members of Devil’s Inferno have spent more time than they should have ever needed to cleaning up after that fucker.

The number of victims they’ve had to help because of his inability to do the job he’s paid for is staggering.

How he is still in a job is mind-boggling to absolutely everyone.

Though I have a very strong suspicion as to why he’s still around.

He’s been on my radar for a long time to investigate more and potentially deal with, but more pressing matters and cases have popped up before I’ve had the chance to do anything about him.

His time is coming, though. He’s on borrowed time even if he doesn’t know it yet.

If he’s done what I suspect he has, which has to do with the entire reason I’ve had to haul myself down here, his time will be coming sooner than planned.

I will find a way to make dealing with his ass a priority.

Yesterday, we all had a surprise when we learned some staggering family secrets to do with Flash, the member of Devil’s Inferno who Jake not only took a bullet for, but who I’m also pretty sure is now Jake’s boyfriend even if that fact hasn’t been confirmed.

Yet. We all know it’s coming; it’s written in the stars at this point.

Those two just fit together; they complement each other.

They’re two pieces of a whole. We’d all be so lucky to find what those two have.

Though with the life I live, I very much doubt I’ll ever have what they do.

It would take a remarkable, bighearted, strong-minded person to deal with the life I’ve chosen.

It’s not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.

Regardless of whatever their relationship status is now, it’s not why I’m down here with Austin and Seth or what Jake and Flash are focusing their attention on at the moment.

No. We all have bigger fish to fry. Flash’s life was turned on its head when he came face to face with Megan’s younger brother, Micah.

He had one hell of a shock to his system when he saw the boy’s resemblance to his own younger brother, Wyatt.

After some investigating, we all learned that both Megan and Micah have the same father as Flash and Wyatt.

Their father, Raymond Anderson, has been living a double life, having an ongoing affair with Trish Williams, Megan and Micah’s mother, while still being married and supposedly happily in love with Isabella Anderson, Flash and Wyatt’s mother.

As if that wasn’t fucked up enough, it got even more complicated last night when Flash received a late-night call from a scared Micah, who was hurt and needed help.

It was uncovered that the person behind his injuries was his own mother, who had lost her shit with her son when she learned he had been at The Devil’s Inferno Compound.

She didn’t care that he had a legitimate reason for being there, that he was trying to protect his friend; she was holding a grudge against the club because of what happened with Megan.

Got to love delusional parents that can’t just accept when it’s their precious child that’s in the wrong.

Anyway, there wasn’t a chance in hell anyone was going to allow that boy to be returned to a woman who would harm him.

Especially not Flash. He was more than a little motivated and determined to keep his newly found brother safe.

He’d already had one brother vanish from his life like a thief in the night; he wasn’t about to let that happen with another.

So in the end, Flash and Micah came home with Jake.

It was a no-brainer, really. Flash is already living in the house with us all and has been since Jake was released from the hospital after he was injured.

It just made sense to bring Micah home with them.

It’s not like there isn’t an abundance of space inside our home.

After our parents moved closer to The Khaos Group Headquarters, they left the house we’d grown up in to me and my brothers.

We all knew we’d prefer to stay living close together, so we had the house remodeled with four separate wings.

One for each of us, and they’re about the size of most people’s houses, so it’s not like we live on top of one another.

In addition to having our own wings, we also have shared spaces, like a massive kitchen that would probably make some professional chefs jealous from its sheer size as well as the top-of-the-range cooking equipment, to the massive chill-out space that has everything you could ever need or want.

There’s the most comfortable furniture money can buy, as well as floor-to-ceiling bookcases that cover every wall, all filled to the brim with every type of book you could think of.

Then there’s every game console ever made, all in working order.

Let’s not forget the massive home gym we have too.

We all need to keep in shape and train regularly because of the lives we live, so there was no way we weren’t going to have a top-of-the-range gym inside our home.

We even have a fully equipped medical suite in the lower levels of our home; it’s a precaution for the off chance that one of us is severely injured and requires treatment.

We aren’t big on hospitals, even ones that have The Khaos Group inside; there are still far too many holes in security and safety issues for our liking.

Being overcautious and maybe even a little paranoid is the price Austin, Seth, and I pay for the jobs we do.

Last night while Flash was getting Micah settled into his new home, Jake came and asked Seth, Austin, and me if we would pull some strings to ensure Micah could legally stay with Flash.

He wasn’t taking any chances, prepared to do whatever he needed to ensure that Micah couldn’t be removed from Flash’s care.

We all agreed to help. We did it without a second thought.

It was a no-brainer, really. None of us wanted that boy returning to the situation he’d come from, and by the time we woke up this morning, all the relevant paperwork had been sent to us.

Micah was officially under Flash’s guardianship.

Did that matter when Trish went to the police and accused the members of Devil’s Inferno of holding him hostage?

No, because of course the detective she dealt with was Moore, and he has more than one reason to be harboring a grudge against Devil’s Inferno MC.

I’m sure he thought he finally had the chance to get one over on them.

He never stood a fucking chance, but it’s not like I ever said the man was smart.

So that leads us to now. Why Austin, Seth, and I are all down here in person to handle this shit instead of just making a phone call.

We don’t trust Moore as far as we can throw him.

We know we need to make sure the truth about Micah’s guardianship isn’t just brushed under the rug so Moore can use this situation for his own gain.

I have no issues with helping Flash and Jake deal with this so they can focus their attention on the other things that they need to deal with, but fucking hell, I am not happy to be dealing with Moore and his shit.

My mood is plummeting by the second. If Moore tries his shit with me today, it isn’t going to end well for him.

I want this dealt with as quickly as possible so I can focus my attention on my search for Dre.
