Chapter Twenty-Six

Dre

H earing Rex say he wants to spend time with just us means more to me than I could ever put into words.

Ever since we decided to give this thing between us a shot, we’ve had one thing after another take precedence over us.

As much as I understand the reason it’s had to happen, it doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed about not getting a chance to spend more time with him or even get a proper fucking kiss.

I need a proper fucking kiss from him; the peck he gave me a few days ago was amazing.

I can only imagine how magical anything more with him will be. I want the chance to experience that.

Watching the shock overtake Austin as Rex doesn’t argue with him is priceless.

It’s clear to me he expected Rex to put up some sort of fight.

Probably because he’s never willingly accepted help with things he sees as his responsibility in the past. Things are different now, though; Rex has more to think about than just himself.

Rex might be okay with handing some of the reins over to his brothers, but that doesn’t mean he plans on being rude and not going to greet all The Reapers who have just arrived.

“You want to come and meet them all?” He asks as he stands.

“Sure. It’ll probably be better than running into an unfamiliar face around the house. I can’t imagine I’d enjoy that much. Plus I wouldn’t mind seeing Anarchy and Phantom again. I never really got the chance to thank them for everything they did and have continued to do.”

Austin mutters something that I don’t quite catch, but Rex must hear him or at least guess what he says because he turns and narrows his eyes on his brother.

“You and Anarchy better fucking behave. I swear to god if you two start your normal shit, I will lock you both in a room together and not let you out until you figure out how to get along.” Rex threatens.

“I’ll behave as long as he does. I’m not going to keep my mouth shut if he starts being a dickhead.” Austin replies, and I can see the stubbornness in his eyes. It’s clear to me he means what he’s saying. He won’t stay quiet if Anarchy provokes him.

“I’ll be giving him the same warning. I’m not kidding, Austin, we have enough going on around here without having to play referee between you two.”

“Alright, I get it. I’ll be on my best behavior.” He says with an eye roll before turning and heading out of the room.

“Why do I not believe he’ll be on his best behavior?” I ask Rex as I stand and start to follow him out of the house and towards The Holding Facility. Thankfully, Immy is down for a nap, and Seth offered to listen out for her, so I don’t have to worry about her right now.

“Because it was all bullshit. He’ll keep to his word and not say anything to outright provoke Anarchy, but he’ll do something that will lead to them ending up at each other’s throats. It always happens. It’s probably the one thing you can always guarantee where those two are concerned.”

I sort of really want to see the way they are with each other.

I’m beyond curious. There’s got to be something that has happened to cause them to act the way Rex is saying that they do.

I’ve met both men, and neither seems like the type to just dislike and argue with someone just for the sake of it.

There has to be something more that nobody knows about.

But that begs the question, why does nobody know?

Austin wasn’t kidding when he said they’d pulled up in a convoy of vehicles.

There are four separate vehicles parked up outside The Holding Facility.

Two bigger model vehicles and two sports cars.

I have no idea about the makes and all that; cars aren’t really my thing.

There are five people standing around the cars that I’ve never seen before.

There’s no sight of Anarchy, Phantom, or their prisoners.

They must have already headed inside. I’m not complaining about that at all.

I don’t want to see Beau and Annmarie ever again.

“I hope you’re ready for this. They can be a little bit much for people who aren’t used to them.”

“I’ll be fine, Rex. Let’s go greet your friends. I’m assuming they’re all your friends. Right?”

“Yeah, they are. They’re all good people and excellent friends. Unique and a little crazy sometimes but still good people all the same.”

“Okay then. Come on, I’m ready.” I say eagerly. I’m a little bit excited to meet the rest of The Reapers. What can I say? I’m curious about the group of assassins.

Rex grabs my hand as we continue walking towards where all The Reapers I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting are gathered.

They’re all talking amongst themselves, acting like they don’t realize we’re here, but I very much doubt that’s the case.

I suspect their level of awareness is off the charts.

It would have to be with what they do. With the jobs they do and the world they live in, they need to be on alert almost constantly. It’s too risky for them not to be.

“So this is a surprise.” Rex says as we get into their hearing range. “What’s with the invasion?”

“We couldn’t let you, Anarchy and Phantom, have all the fun now, could we? Plus, after hearing those two talk about your man, we couldn’t not come and meet him.” The only female in the group says.

She’s shorter than all the men who surround her.

I’d guess she’s about my height or maybe a little shorter.

I don’t think the fact she is smaller makes her any less of a threat, though.

There’s just something about her, an air that tells me she’s one of the deadliest people here.

I’m not sure what her skill set is, but I’m sure she uses everything, including her smaller size and build, to her advantage.

“You wanted to meet me?” I ask, shocked. I wasn’t expecting them to come here to meet me at all.

“Of course we did. It’s not often one of us finds someone who fits into our lives.

You and Rex give the rest of us hope that there’s someone out there for even people like us.

Plus, Anarchy and Phantom were seriously impressed with your grit, and that’s not something that ever happens.

” She explains, making sure to give me her full attention, which I appreciate.

“You were all curious about Dre. That’s why you’re here.” Rex asks, sounding cautious. I can’t help but wonder if he doesn’t quite believe what she is saying.

“Yes, and to get our own shots in on Richard The Dick. We can’t be having a traitor and not making our own displeasure known.”

“I should have known you’d all end up here after learning about Richard.

Talk about an oversight on my part. I know what you’re all like; you just can’t resist. You can all have your fun later.

I don’t care what you do to the prick as long as he’s still breathing by the time I get around to dealing with him.

I still need to get some answers out of him, so keep that in mind, please.

Now, let me introduce you all to Dre. You might know who he is, but he doesn’t have a clue about you all. ”

“Shit. Sorry, I forgot that people normally introduce themselves. It’s not like we do this meeting-new-people thing very often. Well, not with people we aren’t about to wipe out anyway.”

She slaps her hand over her mouth when she realizes what she’s just said, and I can’t help but laugh. She’s a breath of fresh air with how unfiltered and honest she is. I have a feeling I’m going to like her. A lot.

“Right on that note, let’s get the introductions over with.

The chatty one there is Wraith. The only female in The Reapers.

Next to her you’ve got our resident grump, Storm.

Don’t worry if he never seems to look happy; it’s his default setting.

Then we have Slayer, our charming motherfucker.

Don’t let his charming nature and model-worthy good looks fool you.

He’s as deadly and vicious as they come.

Next to Slayer we’ve got Raven. Don’t mind his aloofness; it’s just the way he is around new people.

I’ll let you uncover the true Raven that’s hidden away for yourself, and finally we have Crimson. He’s our creative and resourceful one.”

“It’s great to meet you all.” I say genuinely with a smile.

I really am more than happy to meet them and can’t wait to spend more time getting to know them better and understand the way Rex has described them all.

“I’ve gotta go and have words with Anarchy. Do you want to come with or stay out here with this lot?”

“He can stay out here with us. It’ll be more fun than listening to you lecture Anarchy.” Wraith says, a mischievous smile on her face.

“What she said. I’m sure you won’t be gone long, and maybe they all have some good stories to share with me about your past.”

“Oh, we have the best stories.” Wraith says, rubbing her hands together while flashing Rex an evil smile.

“Behave, Wraith. I don’t need you scaring him off.”

“No chance of that happening, Rex. You’re not getting rid of me that easily.” I say it before anyone else can say anything else.

After a quick hug and the normal kiss to the top of the head, Rex heads inside to find Anarchy.

I know he’s only going to find him to give him the same warning as he did Austin, and I don’t need to hear him do that again.

I’d much rather spend some time getting to know Wraith and the others.

I have a feeling they’ll be showing their faces around here quite often.
