Chapter 16
Chapter Sixteen
Drea
After our kiss, I enrolled in some more classes. I tried tai chi and knitting, and I even took ice skating lessons from Fallon. Anything to get Blair off my mind.
What was I actually thinking? It wasn’t enough to fantasize about kissing her, I had to actually do it?
Fallon would have a field day with this situation I found myself in. Too bad she would never find out. For all the shit I gave her about Mackenzie, I would never hear the end of it.
The woman I complained about even months after our contracts were over—the one woman I couldn’t stand—and I kissed her?!
I blame it on Mackenzie. If she would’ve just let me have sex with a stranger, I could’ve gotten rid of these ridiculous feelings.
Speaking of…
“Mackenzie Thompson, as I live and breathe. What perfect timing. I was just thinking about you,” I said with a mischievous grin.
She narrowed her brows at me. “I’m flattered, but as you know, I’m taken. Which is why I’m here. I came to check in on your ban. Also, Fallon told me Blair ran out of here the other day upset? What did you do?!”
I groaned. “I love Kaia, but she cannot keep a secret from that fiancée of yours for anything.”
“We both know my fiancée. She can get anyone to tell her anything she wants to know.” She winked.
I blanched. “Gross! And yes she can. It’s a gift, really.”
“So…” she pressed. “What did you do?”
“Why do you assume I did something? You know what, don’t answer that. I didn’t do anything. Something came up and she left.” Yeah, your feelings for her!
“Well, how’s your sex life going, or rather lack thereof? Learn anything new about yourself?”
Several things I would rather not get into right now, actually.
“As a matter of fact I did. I learned that you hate me. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through this. I’m taking a lot of classes and buying a lot of batteries. My accountant is going to be very concerned come tax time.
She laughed. “You still have a ways to go, but you can do it. It’ll be good for you. You’ll–”
The bell above the door chimed, causing us both to stop and look up. When my eyes locked with the most perfect pair of hazel eyes, I took in a breath.
Her lips parted slightly and my cheeks heated. Mackenzie cleared her throat, forcing me to tear my eyes away from Blair.
I turned to Mackenzie, who was giving me a look. “What?” I asked.
She smirked. “You know what.”
“No I don’t, and neither do you!”
“You better not get any kinky ideas. Keep it in your pants, Voss.” She nudged my arm, and I rolled my eyes.
“Oh please. I’m not that desperate.”
The thing was, I wasn’t desperate enough to go fuck the first person I saw. I was actually taking this challenge seriously. Kissing was not the same as sleeping with someone, but if the opportunity presented itself, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to say no.
She opened her mouth to say something, most likely sarcastically, but Blair approached the counter before she could. I had never been more grateful to see Blair in my life. As much as I loved Mackenzie, she had a way of pushing my buttons.
“Hey, I’m Blair.” She smiled and held out her hand to Mackenzie. The things I would’ve done to keep that smile around were unsettling to think about.
“I’ve heard so much about you. I’m Mackenzie. Her best friend is my fiancée, who I want to get back to, so I’ll let you get to it.” She gave me a wicked grin, and I wanted to throttle her.
“Bye, Kenzie. Thanks for dropping by.”
She turned around and winked, and I just hoped she didn’t go run to Fallon about what she did or did not see.
I cleared my throat, turning back to Blair, who was looking devastating in a yellow sundress. Get it together!
“Hey, she seemed nice,” she noted with a grin.
I laughed. “She can be. What’s up?”
“I was hoping we could talk? Cara said she sent over the finalized schedule, and wanted to know if you’ve had a chance to look at it yet.”
“And she sent you instead of calling?” I asked.
“Not technically. I told her I was in the neighborhood and offered to drop in for her. She seemed happy I was attempting to do something nice. But I can go if you don’t want me here.” She motioned to the front door.
“No, it’s fine. You’re already here. We can talk in my office.”
When we got to my office, she sat down. She moved slowly, hesitating with almost each step. She looked nervous sitting there, fidgeting with her dress. The dress that clung to her sexy-as-fuck curves. The dress I wanted to feel between my fingers and scrunched up to her hips—
“Can I get you something to drink?” I asked.
“I’ll take a water if you have one. Thank you.” She smiled, and I had to turn away. I should have put in our contract that she wasn’t allowed to smile at me.
I grabbed some water out of the fridge and handed it to her before leaning against the desk with my own water in hand.
I took a drink and licked my lips when I caught her looking. I knew I shouldn’t have. I also shouldn’t have felt a pulse in my clit at the reddening of her cheeks when I did.
“So…” She cleared her throat. “The email?”
I scrunched my brows, confused. “Oh, right.” I stood up and rounded my desk, pulling up the email. “Let’s see. Okay, that sounds doable. You can let her know I sent over my signature. Was there anything else?”
On one hand, I wanted that to be it. I didn’t want to spend any more time together than necessary. But on the other hand…
She stood up, smoothing her dress. “I believe that was all.” She paused for a moment, looking a little shy. “Unless you had something?”
Oh, I had something all right, but nothing I was sure she wanted. What? You don’t want it either, Drea! It’s the dry spell talking, that’s all.
I walked over to her and leaned back against my desk. “You asked if we could talk, Blair. I assumed you had something specific you wanted to discuss?”
She gave me a confused look, like she had forgotten all about what she was doing in my office in the first place. “Right. It was about the email from Cara. That’s all.” She licked her lips, and I wanted to reach out and feel them underneath the pad of my thumb.
“Well, if that’s all, then I guess we’re done here,” I said in a low tone.
“I guess we are.”
She made no move to leave, so I made the first one, pushing off my desk, ready to see her out. I wouldn’t make the mistake of kissing her again, despite how desperate my body was to feel hers.
“Goodbye—” My words were cut short when she grabbed my shirt, slicing the distance between us, and kissed me. I guess she didn’t have the same thought.
I instantly melted into the kiss without so much as a second thought. She tasted like a mixture of promise and regret, and I wanted to drown in it. I would have been perfectly content if kissing her was all I was allowed to do until the end of time.
I instinctively grabbed her arms, pulling her closer, the warmth of her body grounding me as the world seemed to fall away. I wanted our bodies fused together, just as our mouths were.
Every swipe of her tongue sent lightning bolts through me. She let out a soft moan when my hands traveled down her back. Oh, that was a delicious sound.
I grabbed her hips and turned her, lifting her onto my desk. Fuck, it was a sight. She shouldn’t have come here, not back to my office, and definitely not by herself.
I was playing a dangerous game, but seeing her like this was doing something to me. God, was it ever.
I should’ve pulled away. The second our lips touched I should’ve, but I couldn’t. If she’d let me, I wouldn’t have stopped until she begged me to.
My hands were still on her when they moved up her dress and rested on her bare thighs. Her arms were wrapped around me, pressing our bodies closer and closer.
Just feeling her smooth legs underneath the palm of my hand was doing things to my body that I had no business feeling with Blair.
“Drea, are you in there?” My hands froze in place when Kaia’s voice followed a knock on my office door.
“Shit,” I muttered as I leaned my forehead against hers. I was equally thankful and irritated at the intrusion. If it weren’t for Kaia, I wasn’t sure how much further we would’ve gone, but I knew it would’ve been too far to take back.
We were both out of breath, and my hand was still on her thigh.
“Yeah, Kaia, give me a minute.” When I didn’t hear a reply, my shoulders sagged.
“I better go,” she whispered. I took my hand off as she stood up and fixed her dress. “I’ll tell Cara you signed off on her email,” she added.
“That… sounds good. Hey, listen, Blair, I’m—”
“Don’t.” She shook her head. “This was a mistake. I shouldn’t have come here.” She turned around and opened the door without another word.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Dre. I didn’t mean to interrupt,” Kaia said when she saw a flushed Blair floating past her.
“It’s okay, we were just finishing up.” It was not okay. I was deeply horny and getting more irritated by the second.
She followed my gaze to where Blair had disappeared out of the store. “She looked pretty today, didn’t she?”
I glared, clenching my jaw. I saw her. I knew exactly how she looked in the dress that showed off her sexy shoulders, but I didn’t like the idea of anyone else noticing those things.
“Was there something you needed, Kaia?” My tone was harsh and devoid of any calmness.
I needed to relax. I had no right to get short with Kaia.
It was just my hormones talking. It had nothing to do with Blair specifically, and everything to do with the wetness between my thighs. It was making me irrational.
She turned back and cleared her throat. “Oh, right. I was wondering what you wanted me to do about that woman that comes in almost every day and doesn’t buy anything? She’s been coming in for a while now. She’s not bothering anyone, but—”
“Her name is Daisy, and she’s deaf. If she’s not bothering anyone, then what harm is she doing? Is she bothering you?” I knew the answer to that already. The number of times I caught Kaia looking in the same direction as the woman was outrageous.
“No, not at all! I was just trying to be helpful. I feel bad that she’s always alone. I could go talk to her if you need me to. I know sign language. Not that I would know if she does or anything. I don’t know anything about her. I—”
“She’s fine. But if you want an excuse to talk to her, just make one up.” I grinned when her cheeks turned red. “If there’s nothing else, I’m heading home.” I needed to get home fast to finish what Blair and I had started minutes ago.
She shook her head, trying to hide the blush creeping its way up her neck. She was never good at hiding her emotions. “No, that was all. I got it covered, have a good night.”
I chuckled. “Goodnight, and Kaia? Go talk to her. She probably just needs a friend.”
She smiled and walked away.
