Chapter 23
Chapter Twenty-Three
Blair
Walking into Drea’s office was the best and worst thing I had done. After she left my house, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I tried everything I could think of to get her out of my head, but it was pointless. She had burrowed into my brain with no way of getting out.
I finally couldn’t take it anymore, and I decided, why not do something for me? I wanted sex, and I wanted it with Drea, anywhere and everywhere I could. So why not ask for it?
Even though I’d told her we couldn’t do it in her office, once she started to kiss me and her hands found my ass, I was willing to forgo that thought.
I was beyond mortified when Kaia had walked in. Although the idea of having sex in Drea’s office turned me on more than it should’ve, getting caught didn’t. Poor innocent Kaia, if she ever saw that…
Drea and I had had sex a solid four times since we agreed to keep sleeping together, and every time had been better than the last. My body had been doing things I didn’t know it could do.
If I would’ve known how good it felt to be with Drea, I would’ve tried it years ago.
I wanted nothing more than to spend every waking hour in bed with her, but unfortunately, today was a workday and I was meeting with Cara at the bookstore.
Kaia was at the counter, talking to some woman, when I walked in. I smiled when I noticed she was speaking sign language with the other woman. I couldn’t tell who she was from the back of her head, but Kaia looked very happy, so I assumed everything was all right.
“Hi, Blair. Drea’s in her office.” She turned back to the woman and began talking again. I had no clue what she was saying, but I waved anyway.
“Thanks, Kaia.”
I walked into her office and was confused when Cara was nowhere to be found. Maybe she was arriving late.
“Well, hello there, beautiful.” Drea grinned from her desk and stood up when I walked in.
“Where’s Cara? I thought she was supposed to be here, too.”
“She was, but something came up and she had to cancel, so it’s just the two of us, I’m afraid. Sorry to disappoint you.”
I walked over to her, wrapping my arms around her neck. “So I have you all to myself? Whatever will we do to pass the time?”
“I can think of a few things, but they will have to wait until later. We have to get going.” She smirked and kissed me, causing all thoughts to disappear.
When she broke the kiss, I whined in protest. “What do you mean? Where are we going?”
“You’ll see. It’s a surprise.” She gave me one last kiss before heading for the door. As soon as I turned around, she smacked my ass and my core heated. Later couldn’t come soon enough.
Ten minutes later, my eyes darted to Drea, and I furrowed my brows when she stopped the car in front of Bud and Bloom, a small flower shop.
“Why are we here?” I asked.
“I know you haven’t been happy with my decisions for the previous signings, so I wanted to bring you along to pick out your own floral arrangements. We’re going to Sugarleaf after this, too. I want you to be happy with this signing.”
She smiled, caressing my thigh. I looked down at the contact and something in my chest warmed.
It was in that moment, whether it was the sheer thoughtfulness of the gesture, or the warm feeling spreading through me while she was touching me—whatever it was, it caused something to shift between us.
I didn’t know if she felt it, too, but the way she was looking at me only confirmed my notions.
I was past heading into dangerous territory. I was already there.
“Oh, these are gorgeous!” When we walked into the flower shop, I stopped to smell a beautiful blue dahlia on the way to the counter.
I had always thought they were gorgeous, like soft little puff balls.
“And they smell amazing! We should definitely have a few of these.” I turned to Drea with a grin.
She smiled and nodded at the florist, who jotted something down on a notepad.
“Those are actually Fallon’s favorite flowers. They have been for as long as I’ve known her.”
“Really?” I asked. “We should buy some for her as a wedding present.”
She brought me in for a sweet kiss and my legs could have turned into jelly at the warmth of her. “I think that’s a wonderful idea.”
“Which dahlias are her favorite?” I didn’t know Fallon that well, and I wanted to make sure she loved them. If anyone asked if I had ulterior motives for buying her favorite flowers, like trying to win over her best friend, I would deny it.
“Well, she loves the pink, purple, and white ones, and she always has at least one black one when she buys them for herself,” she said.
I was practically floating as we headed to the counter with our goodies.
Leaving the flower shop had me in a bright, cheery mood. Feeling the warm sun mixed with the cool fall breeze, while holding a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and walking with Drea to one of the best bakeries in the city, I was in blissful heaven.
The only thing that would have made the moment even more perfect would be to feel her hand in mine, but I knew we couldn’t risk the chance of seeing Cara.
When we got to the bakery, the aroma of baked pastries and bread swarmed my nose and made my lips form into a smile. It smelled heavenly.
“Okay, what’s our first choice?”
I placed my finger on my chin, contemplating this tough decision. “Well, it goes without saying, cookies are a must. Chocolate chip, and maybe macadamia nut. Oh, and these red velvets look incredible!”
“Got it. What else? Do you want any bread? The banana bread looks amazing. Fallon would love you for that too, by the way.” She winked.
I smirked with no ulterior motives in mind. “Banana bread it is, and maybe a few of those almond croissants. I think that should be good. We don’t want too much.”
We walked up to the counter and after Drea paid, I looked questioningly at the small box the woman had given her. “What did you get?”
She held the door open for me and stopped once we were outside of the bakery, handing me the box. “Red velvet cookies.” She shrugged.
“You didn’t have to do that, Drea.”
She took my hand and forced the box into it. “You liked them, so yes I did. They’re just cookies. It’s not that big of a deal.” She laughed.
I grinned, desperately wanting to wrap my arms around her and never let go. “Thank you. For everything today, seriously.”
It was a big deal, at least to me. All I did was mention that they looked good, and she thought of me enough to get them for me. It had been a long time since someone had thought of me enough to do something like that.
“You’re welcome. I think we had a successful day.”
“I think so. I am very happy with how this day has turned out.”
“So, while we are on the happy train, I was wondering how you feel about weddings?”
I paused, almost dropping my delicious-looking cookies. “Drea… I mean, I like you, sure, but… marriage? Isn’t that a little—”
Her dying laughter cut off my ramblings. “Oh, for fuck’s sake, love. I’m not proposing. I was trying to ask if you would go to Fallon and Mackenzie’s wedding with me.”
I picked up my heart from the floor and exhaled sharply. “Oh. Sure, that sounds fun, but … won’t Cara be there? It might look weird if we show up together.”
She shook her head. “No, Cara will not be attending. Considering she technically dated both brides, that would be weird. And we don’t have to make it a big thing.” She paused for a moment before she added, “Unless you want to.”
I frowned. “I don’t know what you’ve told your friends about us, whatever we are, but I’m okay with going as just your friend or as your date.”
“Date. I like the sound of that. I told them I was asking you as my friend. I didn’t want anything getting back to Cara, but I like the idea of calling you my date.” She nudged my side.
“Then it’s a date.” I grinned in return as we left the bakery.
