7.The Pull of the Billionaire Bella's Conflicted Heart

Bella's POV:

I'm sprawled on my bed, flipping through the newspaper, and of course, the first thing that catches my eye is an article about William. It's always about William lately—his name seems to be everywhere, and this morning is no different. The headline screams: "The Man of the City: Billionaire William, The Most Eligible Bachelor in Town!" I roll my eyes as I read through the piece, which goes on and on about how model-like he looks, how all the girls are falling over themselves to date him, and how every businessman is envious of his success. They make him sound like some kind of urban legend.

I can't help but let out a frustrated sigh. I grab my phone and text my best friend, Tessa. We've been friends forever, even though we met just 5 years ago after I joined the office. and she's the only one who understands my endless rants and chaotic thoughts. I know she'll get a kick out of this.

A few minutes later, my phone buzzes with her reply. "Meet me at our favorite café in 10. I'm already dying to hear what's got you all worked up this time!"

I head to the café, where Tessa is already waiting with a huge grin on her face. We hug, and she immediately dives into her usual chatter. "So, spill it. What's this about William making headlines again? You've been avoiding him like the plague."

I wave the newspaper at her as we sit down. "Look at this, Tess. They're practically worshiping him. He's 35 and apparently looks like a model. According to this, every girl in the city is after him, and all the businessmen are green with envy. It's ridiculous."

Tessa's eyes widen as she takes a sip of her coffee. "Oh my god, Bella! Are you serious? William? The same guy who's been driving you up the wall? I mean, I get it—he's hot, and successful, and apparently the MAN of the city. But you can't tell me you're not at least a little bit intrigued."

I groan. "Intrigued? Maybe. But he's been acting so weird lately. He's been getting all close and weird, and I don't know how to handle it. It's driving me nuts. And I can't figure out why I'm feeling... conflicted."

Tessa bursts into laughter. "Conflicted? Bella, honey, let's be real. He's a billionaire with a model-like face. Girls throw themselves at him like he's a rockstar. You've got a front-row seat to his drama, and now you're telling me you're confused about why you're feeling this way?"

I try to suppress a smile but fail. "I just don't know what's going on. One minute, he's being all intense and weird, and the next, he's just—there. And I can't deny that part of me... likes it. But I don't want to like it. It's so frustrating."

Tessa's eyes sparkle with mischief. "Oh, come on! You know you're totally into him. I mean, who wouldn't be? He's like a walking fantasy. All the girls are practically drooling over him. And here you are, playing hard to get. Classic Bella."

I roll my eyes. "Classic me, indeed. But seriously, Tess, he's been nothing but rude to me for years. I don't get why I'm suddenly feeling this... pull."

Tessa leans in, her expression turning serious for a moment, though the twinkle in her eye betrays her amusement. "Look, Bella. It's like this: you've got this insanely attractive billionaire who's finally paying attention to you after being a jerk for years. Of course, it's going to mess with your head! I mean, every girl in this city would give anything for a chance with him, and you're over here acting like it's no big deal. Newsflash: it is a big deal."

I can't help but laugh at her enthusiasm. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. But I still don't know what to do about it."

Tessa grins, her eyes twinkling with excitement. "Well, for starters, stop overthinking it. Just enjoy the fact that William is making an effort. You never know, he might be trying to change. And honestly, Bella, you two would make such a hot couple. I've already started planning your wedding in my head."

I snort, shaking my head. "Oh, please. Stop being so dramatic. We're not getting married anytime soon."

Tessa giggles. "Oh, come on! You know you love it. And honestly, the more you deny it, the more I'm convinced you're just playing hard to get. But don't worry, I'll keep shipping you two until you finally admit that you're head over heels for him."

I smile despite myself, feeling a bit lighter. "Thanks, Tess. I guess I just needed someone to remind me how ridiculous this all is."

She winks at me. "Anytime. Now, let's get some more coffee and plan your future with Mr. Model Billionaire, shall we?"

As we laugh and chat, I can't help but feel a mix of confusion and excitement. Maybe Tessa's right. Maybe I am into William more than I'd like to admit. And maybe, just maybe, I need to stop denying it and see where this crazy, frustrating, irresistible pull takes me. But I won't be acting out my impulses. I can't just be easy.

I walk into the house, exhausted from the day's chaos, and am instantly met with a burst of energy. My mommy is back! She'd been out for a few days, and honestly, I didn't realize how much I missed her until now. She's in the kitchen, wearing an apron that says, "Chef Extraordinaire," and I can't help but laugh.

"Mommy!" I call out, rushing over to give her a hug. "You're back! I thought I was going to have to fend for myself with just Dada and the little ones."

She laughs, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "Oh, come on, Bella. You know your father is a fantastic cook when he's not busy being a superhero with the kids. And look at you, all frazzled. Let's fix that with some baking!"

I smile, feeling the warmth of home surround me. My dad is in the living room, playing with my little brother and sisters. My little brother is on his toy truck, zooming around with boundless energy, while my sisters are giggling and trying to keep up.

"Hey, Dada!" I call out, giving him a quick hug as he wrangles the kids. "You're doing a great job with them. I might just come home every day to see you in action."

He grins, looking a bit frazzled but happy. "Well, we're having a blast over here. Your little brother might be a handful, but he's got a heart of gold."

I walk into the kitchen where Mommy is already busy with the ingredients. "What's on the menu today?" I ask, taking off my coat and rolling up my sleeves.

Mommy winks at me. "How about we bake some chocolate chip cookies? It's the perfect way to unwind after a long day. And I want to hear all about your day. What's new?"

I hesitate for a moment. I had a lot on my mind about William and his recent behavior, but my family knows that I'm not a fan of him and only tolerate him because of work. So, I quickly push those thoughts aside and start helping her with the cookie dough.

"Well," I say, trying to sound casual, "not much. Work was the usual chaos. Oh, and you know, the usual stuff—office politics and all that."

Mommy raises an eyebrow, a playful smile on her lips. "Really? Nothing exciting? No new drama involving Mr. 'Perfect Billionaire'?"

I almost drop the chocolate chips I'm adding to the dough. "Mommy! You know I don't want to talk about him."

She chuckles, giving me a knowing look. "Oh, come on. You know you can tell me anything. And besides, I've heard enough about him from your dada. He's quite the character, apparently."

I try to avoid her gaze as I mix the ingredients. "Well, let's just say, his behavior has been... a little strange lately. But I don't want to get into it. It's probably nothing."

Mommy raises an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Strange behavior? Like what? Is he finally trying to win you over with his charm?"

I laugh, shaking my head. "I don't know what's going on with him, and honestly, I'm not in the mood to figure it out. I'd rather focus on our cookies. They're the only thing that's making me feel better right now."

Mommy's smile widens. "Alright, alright. We'll save the juicy details for another time. But you know I'm always here to listen if you need to vent. And who knows? Maybe these cookies will give you the clarity you need."

As we finish baking, I can hear Dada and the kids in the other room, the sound of laughter and playful shouting filling the house. It's moments like these that remind me of how lucky I am. My family, with all their quirks and chaos, is my rock.

After the cookies are done, we all gather around the kitchen table. The little ones are practically bouncing off the walls, their faces smeared with chocolate chip cookie dough, while Dada is smiling, tired but content.

I look around at my family, feeling a profound sense of peace. Despite the chaos of my day and the confusing emotions swirling around me, moments like these make it all worthwhile. We joke, laugh, and enjoy our cookies, and for a while, everything feels perfect.

"Thanks for today, Mommy," I say as we clean up. "I really needed this."

She hugs me tightly. "Anytime, sweetie. Remember, no matter what's going on, we're always here for you."

As I watch my family interacting, I feel a mix of gratitude and love. The complexities of my feelings about William seem a little less overwhelming in the warmth of home. For now, I'm content to savor the moment and leave the rest for another day.
