31.In the Wake of Betrayal Bella's Heartbreak and Tessa's Support

Bella's POV:

The shock and pain of seeing William with another woman left me feeling disoriented and heartbroken. My emotions were a whirlwind as I fled from his office, desperate to escape the crushing weight of betrayal. I needed comfort, and the only person I could think of who might understand was Tessa.

I ran through the office hallways, tears streaming down my face, my heart pounding with each step. I made my way to Tessa's cabin, my breaths coming in ragged gasps. When I finally reached her door, I knocked frantically.

"Tessa!" I cried out, my voice trembling. "I need to talk to you, please."

Tessa opened the door, her eyes widening with concern when she saw me. "Bella? What's wrong?"

Before I could answer, the tears flowed more freely, and I could barely speak through the sobs. "I... I saw William. He... he was with someone else. They were kissing. I thought he was coming back to me, but..."

Tessa's face softened with sympathy. She immediately pulled me into a comforting hug, her presence a soothing balm to my shattered emotions. "Oh, Bella. I'm so sorry. Come with me. We'll figure this out."

She led me to her apartment, her arm around my shoulders providing a small measure of solace. As we walked, I tried to steady my breathing, focusing on putting one foot in front of the other. The pain in my chest was almost unbearable, but Tessa's support helped me push through.

As we neared her apartment, we encountered Evan, who was just stepping out of his building. He looked at me with a mix of concern and confusion. "Bella? Is everything okay?"

Tessa glanced at me, then back at Evan. " You know her?"

Evan's gaze shifted between Tessa and me. "Yeah, I know her. We've talked a few times. Bella, what's going on?"

I wiped at my tears, trying to muster a brave face despite the turmoil inside. "I'm fine, Evan. Thank you. I just... need to be with Tessa right now."

Evan looked like he wanted to say more, but Tessa cut him off gently. "Evan, thanks for checking in. Bella and I need to get going. We'll be okay."

Evan nodded, though his expression remained puzzled. "Alright. If you need anything, just let me know."

With that, Tessa and I continued to her apartment. Inside, the warmth and familiarity of her space provided a temporary respite from the storm of emotions I was experiencing. Tessa set up a cozy spot on the couch, making sure I was comfortable before joining me.

"Bella, I'm so sorry you had to go through that," Tessa said softly, her eyes filled with concern. "We'll talk about it, and I'll do everything I can to help you through this."

I leaned into Tessa, finding some comfort in her presence. As she made us tea and settled in beside me, I felt a small flicker of relief knowing I wasn't alone. The journey to Tessa's apartment had been a blur of pain and confusion, but now, in this moment, I was grateful for her support.

"I just don't understand," I said, my voice quivering. "Why would he do this? I thought we were getting closer. Why didn't he call? Why didn't he reach out to me?"

Tessa held my hand, her grip firm and reassuring. "I don't have all the answers, Bella. But we'll get through this together. Let's take it one step at a time. You deserve to be treated with respect and honesty, and you'll get through this. We'll make sure of it."

I nodded, feeling the weight of my emotions begin to ease just a little. With Tessa by my side, I knew I had a friend who would help me navigate this painful chapter and find my way forward.

As Tessa settled us into her cozy living room, making sure I was comfortable with a warm blanket and a cup of tea, she looked at me with a thoughtful expression. Her concern was palpable, and I could see she was eager to help me make sense of everything.

"So, Bella," Tessa began gently, "I noticed you seemed a bit surprised when you saw Evan. How do you know him?"

I took a sip of my tea, trying to steady my nerves. The warm liquid was soothing, but it did little to ease the ache in my heart. I thought back to the party where I'd first met Evan and how he had become a part of William's circle of friends.

"We met at a party a while ago," I explained, my voice still shaky. "Evan and I hit it off, and we've stayed in touch occasionally. He's friends with William, so I've seen him around a few times. He's always been nice, but I didn't expect to see him today."

Tessa nodded, listening intently. "I see. And what's your relationship with Evan like?"

I hesitated for a moment, unsure how much to share. "It's nothing serious. We're friendly, but we haven't really been in touch all that much. I guess I just didn't want to bother him with my problems today. I'm sure he's just confused by the whole situation."

Tessa's eyes softened with understanding. "It's understandable. Sometimes we turn to the people we trust most in times of distress, and Evan might not be the first person you'd go to. You've got a lot on your plate right now, and it's okay to lean on those who are close to you."

I nodded, feeling a bit more at ease. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I just needed to be with someone who understands, and right now, that's you."

Tessa squeezed my hand reassuringly. "I'm here for you, Bella. We'll get through this together. I'll be your support, and we'll figure out what's next."

As the evening wore on, Tessa and I talked more about what had happened and how I was feeling. Her presence was a balm to my bruised heart, and I was grateful for her unwavering support. While the pain of seeing William with someone else still lingered, Tessa's kindness and understanding helped me take the first steps toward healing.

Tessa's POV:

Watching Bella unravel in front of me was both heartbreaking and eye-opening. Bella had always been one of the most resilient and private people I knew. She rarely let her guard down, keeping her emotions tightly locked away even from those closest to her. But now, here she was, vulnerable and raw, and it hurt to see her like this.

Bella's ability to stay strong and keep her feelings to herself was something I admired, but it also made moments like these all the more poignant. When she did open up, she didn't just let anyone in—she let them in deeply, forming connections that were incredibly meaningful and intense. Seeing her in this state, with tears streaming down her face and her heart laid bare, was a testament to how much she invested in the people she cared about.

As I guided her through the distress of the situation, my own emotions were a whirlwind of empathy and concern. It was clear how deeply she had been affected by what she had seen, and her pain was almost tangible. My heart ached for her, and I felt an overwhelming urge to protect and support her in any way I could.

In the midst of all this, I couldn't help but be taken aback by Evan's unexpected presence. He was usually so composed, almost robotic in his demeanor, that it was strange to see him showing any real emotion. Our relationship with him had always been a bit strained, and I hadn't expected him to react so strongly or show concern. Seeing him ask if everything was alright, and his genuine confusion over Bella's distress, was a stark contrast to his usual cool, detached self.

It was as if the situation had cracked open a different side of Evan—a side that I hadn't seen before. His reaction was both surprising and confusing. On one hand, it was a relief to see someone showing genuine care, even if that someone was someone I'd had a rocky relationship with. On the other hand, it was disorienting to witness such a stark contrast between his usual demeanor and his apparent concern for Bella.

As I settled Bella into my apartment, trying to offer comfort and a safe space, I couldn't shake the feeling of confusion. There were layers to this situation that I hadn't fully unpacked yet. I was torn between feeling grateful for the unexpected support and trying to make sense of Evan's sudden emotional display.

Ultimately, my focus remained on Bella and helping her through this difficult time. It was clear she needed all the support she could get, and I was determined to be there for her, no matter what. Her pain was my pain, and her struggle was my struggle. Whatever was happening with Evan or anyone else could wait; right now, Bella needed me, and I wasn't going to let her down.
