35.A Surprising Re and a New Beginning
Bella's POV:
Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new chapter for me, and I couldn't be more excited. I'll be starting at Kingston Company, a place where the promise of a fresh start feels like a breath of fresh air. The anticipation of walking into a new office, away from the shadow of William's cold indifference, is invigorating.
As soon as I stepped through the doors of Kingston Company, I was greeted by Alexander, a friendly face with a warm smile. He's my point of contact for the day and will be showing me around. Alexander is around my age, which already puts me at ease. His easygoing demeanor and playful nature create an immediate sense of camaraderie.
He took me on a tour of the office, pointing out the various departments and introducing me to a few key people. His explanations were clear and concise, and he made sure to answer all of my questions with patience. His approach was the complete opposite of the rigid, high-pressure environment I had been used to. Alexander's playful banter and relaxed attitude made the whole experience enjoyable and stress-free.
I could tell that this new environment would be a refreshing change. The office was bright and welcoming, and the people I met seemed genuinely friendly. Alexander's ease in navigating the space and his casual explanations made me feel like I was stepping into a place where I could thrive without the constant pressure and negativity I had faced before.
As we wrapped up the tour, I felt a genuine sense of optimism. Alexander's friendly approach and the positive atmosphere of the company made me excited about the work ahead. It's clear that Kingston Company is a place where I can grow professionally without the burdens of past conflicts.
Walking away from the office at the end of the day, I felt a lightness I hadn't experienced in a long time. This new opportunity feels like a perfect fit, and I'm looking forward to starting this fresh chapter with enthusiasm and hope.
The day was progressing smoothly until I received a message that the CEO wanted to meet with me. With a mixture of curiosity and nerves, I made my way to the CEO's office. When I entered, I was greeted by none other than Alexander.
My heart skipped a beat. "Oh my God, Alexander!" I exclaimed, unable to hide my surprise. I had assumed he was just another friendly colleague, not the CEO of the company. "I'm so sorry for mistaking you as an employee earlier. I didn't know!"
Alexander chuckled, clearly amused. "No need to apologize, Bella. It's perfectly understandable. I like to keep things casual around here."
We dove into a discussion about work, and Alexander was just as approachable and easygoing as he had been during the tour. His leadership style was a refreshing change from the rigid formality I had experienced before. The meeting was productive, and I felt a sense of relief that I was in such capable and supportive hands.
But then, after a long discussion, Alexander suddenly asked, "Bella, are you sure you don't remember me from somewhere?"
I was taken aback. "What do you mean?"
With a grin, he pulled out a high school yearbook from his desk and flipped to a page. He pointed to a photo of a younger version of himself, and my jaw dropped. I stared at the yearbook in shock. "No way! Alexander, is that really you?"
He nodded, still smiling. "Yep, that's me. We were best friends in high school. I remember us getting into all sorts of trouble together."
The realization hit me like a wave. I had known him as a close friend back in high school—someone I could always rely on. Our friendship had been platonic and full of honest, sometimes brutally so, interactions. We had shared so many moments and secrets, maintaining a strong bond even after graduation.
"I can't believe this!" I said, my voice filled with excitement and disbelief. "I had no idea you were the CEO here. This is incredible."
Alexander's smile widened. "Well, life has a funny way of bringing people back together. It's great to see you again, Bella. I'm really glad you're here."
I had so many questions swirling in my mind, but before I could ask, Alexander extended an invitation. "How about we catch up over lunch? I'd love to hear more about what you've been up to and fill you in on how I ended up here."
I was thrilled at the prospect of reconnecting with an old friend and catching up on lost time. "I'd love that," I replied eagerly. "Let's do it."
As we left the office together, I felt a surge of happiness. The surprise twist of Alexander being the CEO was a delightful one, and the chance to rekindle our friendship while navigating this new job made the day even better. I was excited for what the future held, both professionally and personally.
As Alexander and I walked to the nearby café, a sense of nostalgia and excitement bubbled up inside me. It was surreal to be reconnecting with an old friend who now happened to be the CEO of the company where I was starting a new chapter. We found a cozy corner in the café and settled into our seats, ready for a catch-up that promised to be both fun and insightful.
"So," Alexander began, stirring his coffee with a grin, "let's rewind to high school. Remember that time we accidentally set off the fire alarm in the middle of a math exam?"
I burst into laughter. "How could I forget? You were so calm, pretending to be a firefighter while the rest of us were in a panic. I was convinced we were going to get expelled!"
He chuckled, taking a sip of his coffee. "Oh, I remember that. I thought it was a great excuse to escape a particularly boring exam. And the look on Mrs. Thompson's face—priceless."
We both laughed heartily, reminiscing about the various antics we had gotten up to. The conversation flowed easily, just like old times. I learned that Alexander had been incredibly focused on establishing his business after high school, which was why we had lost touch. "It's been a whirlwind, Bella. I got caught up in all the chaos of building a company, and before I knew it, years had passed. But I always wondered how you were doing."
"I'm doing well, thanks," I replied with a smile. "It's funny how life has a way of reconnecting people when you least expect it."
Alexander's eyes twinkled with mischief. "Speaking of reconnecting, remember how we used to prank Mr. Jenkins every April Fools' Day? I still can't believe he fell for that fake 'gas leak' we made up. He was so flustered!"
I laughed, shaking my head. "Oh, that was classic. And the time we put those fake bugs in his desk drawer—he almost had a heart attack! We were such troublemakers."
Our laughter filled the café as we continued to exchange stories and inside jokes from our high school days. The lighthearted banter felt refreshing, and it was clear that our friendship had endured despite the time apart.
At one point, I asked, "So, what's the deal with you and your high school sweetheart? Are you still together?"
Alexander's face softened, and he smiled fondly. "Yes, we are. We've been together since high school, and she's been incredibly supportive through all the ups and downs of running a business. It's been quite a journey, but I couldn't have done it without her."
"That's wonderful to hear," I said, genuinely happy for him. "It's nice to know that some things stay constant, even when everything else changes."
As we chatted, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. I glanced around the café, and my heart sank when I spotted a familiar figure sitting in the corner—William. He was staring directly at us, his expression a mix of surprise and irritation. The sight of him was like a sudden chill in the warmth of the conversation.
My mood shifted immediately. I didn't want to let William ruin what had been a delightful reunion, so I tried to maintain my composure. "Alexander, it's getting late, and I think I should head back. I've had a long day, and it's probably best if we wrap up."
Alexander looked at me with concern but nodded understandingly. "Of course, Bella. Let's get going."
We gathered our things and made our way out of the café. As we left, I cast one last glance at William, who was still watching us with an inscrutable expression. I felt a pang of unease but quickly pushed it aside.
Once we were outside, Alexander asked, "Is everything okay? You seemed a bit off just now."
I forced a smile, trying to shake off the lingering discomfort. "Yeah, everything's fine. Just had a bit of an awkward encounter, but it's nothing to worry about."
He seemed to accept my explanation, and we continued our walk, chatting casually about our plans for the future. Despite the earlier tension, I felt grateful for the chance to reconnect with Alexander and for the positive start to my new job.
As we said our goodbyes, I felt a mix of relief and satisfaction. The day had been filled with pleasant surprises and old memories, and I was eager to see where this new chapter would take me.
