36. Zombies be Coming #2
“It’s great that we all agree on getting sleep, but can someone tell me what in this hell just happened with those… What did you call them, JP? Molewights?” Zeke yells, letting his emotions take over, and I growl, warning him to keep his voice down.
“Keep it down, or I’ll make sure she has one less mate to worry about if you wake her up,” I promise as I look down, making sure Kitten is still resting peacefully.
“Sorry,” Zeke apologizes as JP pulls him into his side.
“It’s okay, mon amoureux. You were frustrated about the situation since those demons weren’t zombies since they were coming out of the ground and something you should have been able to control, right?
” JP guesses, and when Zeke’s eyes go wide, JP places a sweet kiss on Zeke’s forehead. “Thought so.”
“Man, you know me so well. It’s kinda creepy,” Zeke admits.
“And here I thought it was romantic.” JP laughs, low and deep in his chest, before he runs a hand down his front, “What kind of lover would I be if I didn’t know every little thing about you?”
“A normal one,” I spit. Immediately, I hear a gasp and look over to see JP clutching his chest in mock outrage.
“Well, I’ve never,” he says in a southern drawl.
“Okay, Mr. Never, do you know how those mole things got in here? I thought this place was safe,” I try to bring us back to the topic at hand.
“Honestly, no clue. My guess is the open gate. I’m hoping to ask Zissa in the morning.
I guess a lot of things will have to wait for the morning.
It’s almost impossible to fall into a deep sleep while not knowing what my Kitten has been through, but her warm body wrapped in my arms does allow me to drift off a bit.
I awaken to the sounds of the students of STFU getting ready for their day, stupid advanced hearing.
I look down and smile, seeing that Rez is still curled up against my chest. I was able to seize the bed from the other guys and secure the king-size bed to share with JP, Zeke, and Reaper.
A simple game of rock, paper, scissors was all it took to decide who got the bed.
We decided whoever won the king-size got to cuddle with Rez when she showed up last night.
The room we’re in is a simple cadet’s room that Zissa added the king bed to for us.
Levi and Ryker have the first bunk next to the door, while Moni and Chester take the middle.
Knots and Lynx follow up with the closest bunk to the bathroom on the right side of the room, while my king bed on the left makes the room a tight squeeze.
There’s a door to the back of the room that leads to a small bathroom. Thankfully, we all cleaned up last night because I don’t want to move from this space. I could just stay like this all day, watching Kitten sleep in my arms.
Besides her physical changes, like the braids in her hair and the missing sling, I can feel power radiating off of her now. What happened to her during the time she was away from us? How did she find us here, and why did she end up on top of that pile of dirt?
“Rez! You’re back!” Moni squeals, launching herself off her bunkbed and towards my bed. My hand shoots out, catching her to block the little two-inch tornado from slamming into my sleeping mate, but her words were enough to rouse her.
“Huh?” Rez rolls over and rubs her eyes as she looks around the room.
“Unhand me, you brute. Don’t you know I’m the princess of Hell?” Moni prattles before sticking her tongue at me.
“And I’m still your older brother and can manhandle you if you’re two inches tall, remember that,” I say, cocking an eyebrow before opening my palm and letting her loose.
So much for letting Rez sleep in; at least I got to hold her for a few hours.
“Welcome back, Rezzi-bear, where did you go?” Lynx says, scrambling off his bunkbed to pile on her as I get up and put on clothes.
The others in the room are in different states of waking up and getting dressed.
“Welcome back, Rez.”
“Welcome home, Goddess.”
“Glad you’re back, ma chérie.”
“Nice to see ya, sister-in-law.”
“Morning, Firecracker.”
“Morning,” she says sleepily. “First of all, where are we? And what’s the game plan?”
“Now those are sensible questions,” Zissa answers, walking into our room.
“Don’t you knock?” Chester grumbles as he quickly pulls up his pants.
“This is Hell, it’s supposed to be uncomfortable here. Get used to it.” She winks before addressing Rez. “Welcome, Rez, good to see you again. You look like you are one sleep away from the living dead.”
“Thanks, I feel as though I got run over by a Mack truck,” she offers.
“At least you don’t have to die in Hell today; you can do that in another realm. That is, if you can survive through breakfast, think you can handle that?” Zissa leans against the bedframe and offers her a small smile.
“Breakfast is the most dangerous meal of the day. Someone most likely will lose an appendage if I don’t get any tullē strips.
” Rez narrows her eyes at the demon as she crawls out of bed.
She stares at Zissa for a few seconds before they both break their stare off and chuckle, pulling each other into a hug.
Huh. I guess they worked out their differences over Ryker.
“I have no doubt about that.” Zissa leans back against the bedframe and crosses her arms, “I’m curious too. Where did you disappear to?”
Rez groans and tries to run her hand through her hair, but freezes when her fingers find the braids.
“Oh. I forgot about those,” she murmurs, but my heightened hearing catches it.
“Hello?” Moni flies over and twirls in front of Rez’s face, trying to grab her attention. “Bestie? Anyone in there? Bring back my bestie!” Moni yells, smacking Rez on the forehead.
“Oh, sorry.” Rez blushes, slightly shaking her head. She removes her hand from her hair and fusses at her clothes nervously. “To answer your question, I was pulled to Cain.”
The room explodes as I instinctively stiffen with panic.
“What?”
“No way!”
