Chapter 25
Izzy
His brother? They’re related? Alex is his brother. No, his name isn’t even Alex, it’s Davis. I think I’m going to be sick. I’m not sure my lungs are even taking in air.
“What the hell are you doing with her, Xan? Step away from my girl.”
Alex, Davis, whoever the fuck he is, is moving in closer, but Rogue blocks his path.
“See that’s where you’re wrong, asshole. She’s not your girl. She’s mine. And if you don’t back the fuck up now, I will pull my piece and shoot your fucking dick off.”
“So, this was your grand plan? Your way of ‘taking me down’? You thought you’d steal my girl away from me so you could get your revenge?” Grand plan. “You thought you’d swoop in and convince Izabelle to fall in love with you. This girl isn’t a pawn to be toyed with, Xander.”
This was all part of his plan? I was just a means at getting back at his brother.
“Was this all a big game to you?” My voice is barely audible through the panic that’s creeping in.
“No.” Rogue whips around to face me. “It wasn’t a game. I had no clue it was you. On my fucking life I didn’t know.”
“He didn’t know it was you,” Bones states from behind, backing up Rogue’s claim. “We never identified who the other woman was.”
Rogue steps closer. “You told me his name was Alex Baker and that he was a surgeon at the hospital. My brother’s name is Davis Zegman and he’s an ear, nose, and throat doctor. The only surgeries he does are correcting deviated septums.”
“I do more than that,” the liar sputters in the background. He’s not even a surgeon. He doesn’t work at the ER. That’s why Viv couldn’t leave the money. God, he even lied to me about his name.
There’s a rough chuckle behind us, but I don’t know what’s so funny.
“You can’t believe a word he has to say, Izabelle,” the liar grits through his gnashed teeth. “He’s one of them. They’re all criminals and belong in jail.”
“You better back the fuck away.” Bones steps in front of the asshole.
“You lied about everything.” I move around Rogue to confront the bastard. “None of it was true. Not your name or your job. I can’t believe a word you say.”
“The way I feel about you, Izabelle, was never a lie. When I told you I didn’t believe in soul mates until I met you, that was the truth. I believe we’re meant to be together. I feel it with every fiber inside me.”
“Soul mates?” I laugh wickedly. “You are so delusional. Soul mates don’t lie about being married.
They don’t lie about their name or their job.
They don’t spend fourteen months stringing someone along.
You’re selfish, and arrogant, and completely ignorant as to what it takes to truly be in love.
I keep telling you to leave me the fuck alone but you won’t listen.
So, let me spell it out for you in front of everyone so there’s no mistaking how I feel.
I’m in love with your brother. He’s my soul mate.
This man, right here. He’s the one I want to be with. ”
“Baby.” Rogue’s arm wraps around my waist, pulling me close.
“What the hell are you doing here?” shouts a voice from down the hall. The man storming towards us looks exactly like Davis but with gray hair and wrinkles and a nasty scowl that he’s directing at Rogue.
I can feel Rogue’s body tense at my back. It’s his father. This is the man who was supposed to guide and protect him, but instead, he cut him out of his life because Rogue joined the military. I’m never going to understand how a father could be so heartless.
“We came to pay our new candidate a visit.” King steps forward, and his tone is terrifyingly threatening. So is the look on his face.
“Get the hell out.” He points to the door. “You’re not welcome here.”
It’s shocking that this man thinks he even stands a chance against these men. He’s a foot smaller than all of them, and he couldn’t even take one of them in a fight.
“We bought our tickets like everyone else.” Bones widens his stance. These men are a united front.
“Tickets are for members only. Now, get the fuck out before I call the cops.”
When I was a kid, I always dreamed of finding my forever parents.
People who would love and protect me. There were times I’d cry myself to sleep, wishing I had what other kids had.
A family. A mom and dad who would protect me from all the evils of the world.
But after hearing how Rogue’s parents have treated him, after witnessing the evil in this man’s eyes, I’m thankful I didn’t have him for a dad.
All I want to do is wrap my arms around Rogue and protect him from this awful man.
“Let me repeat myself, because the first time, you chose not to listen.” Rogue’s voice is so tight, sending a chilling shiver down my spine.
“The cops respect the men who protect the innocent of this town. You can by all means call them, but they’re not going to save you.
We’ve found a trail of your illegal dealings and know exactly who you’re taking bribes from.
So, by all means, you should call them. In fact, the Sheriff is out in the parking lot. ”
“Take that, motherfucker!” I let my excitement slip and feel all eyes turn on me. I’m so embarrassed that I just interrupted them and their intense exchange, but Rogue’s chuckle settles my nerves.
“Nicely put.” Bones holds out his hand to me for a fist bump.
“You want me to cut his dick off too, doll?” King turns his smile on me.
I nod, and now they’re all chuckling. Rogue hugs me tighter.
“You are so fucking cute, baby.”
“Davis? What’s going on?” Now, there’s a woman joining the commotion.
It’s the liar’s wife. The bitch from the store, and she’s casting her sneer at me.
I don’t know how Rogue was ever married to this woman.
She’s downright evil, and Rogue is one of the kindest men I’ve ever met.
Honestly, his mom was right. She and Davis are better suited for each other. Both of them are terrible human beings.
“Kara, sweetheart, you need to go back into the party. This doesn’t concern you,” Asshole Senior states.
“Oh, I think it very much concerns her.” I open my mouth again, sticking my nose into their business, but I can’t help it. “Kara” deserves to know exactly who she’s married to.
“What are you doing here?” Her evil eyes glare over my dress. The dress that she so desperately wanted. Too bad for her I look phenomenal, and she looks…old.
“She’s with me.” Rogue looks down at me and winks. “Kara, this is my girlfriend, Izz. Izz, this is my bitch of an ex-wife who cheated on me with my brother.”
“So, you’re the wretch.” I glower at the bitch. “I think you’re better off without her.” I look to Rogue.
“I know I am, babe. Got the best girl right here.” His lips mold to mine, kissing me thoroughly.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, Xander. You’re dating a waitress from the steakhouse? Don’t you think she’s a little beneath you? Not to mention the fact that she’s a child.”
I pull away from him, whipping my head around. I have never wanted to get into a physical altercation before, but I want to punch this woman. And if she had a penis, I’d be begging King to cut it off too.
“Careful, old lady.” I get right in her face with an evil sneer. “Your jealousy is going to cause you to get more wrinkles.”
“Jealous? Why the hell would I be jealous of you?”
“Because she’s gorgeous.” Rogue places a kiss on my neck from behind.
“Because your husband is in love with me.” I cock my head to the side, ready to reveal the truth.
“Rogue is my ex. I don’t give a shit who he dates.” Although, it sounds like she does.
“I wasn’t talking about your ex.” I point my stare at Davis who’s been awfully quiet since his dad’s arrival. “I’m talking about your husband. I thought you were going to serve her those divorce papers you showed me the other day? Guess that was another lie.”
“I told you I was waiting until after she got back from her trip.”
And yet, she’s right here.
“Davis?”
By the look on her face, she didn’t see it coming. I almost feel sorry for her. Almost.
“I…” And the liar looks like he doesn’t know what to say. That’s a first.
“Are you fucking her?” she asks.
“He was fucking her,” Rogue interjects. “And after she ended things, your good-for-nothing husband started stalking her. That’s how we met, isn’t that right, angel?” He smiles down at me.
“It sure is.” I nuzzle in closer. “And then I fell madly in love with you and realized that I never loved Davis. And by the way, you were stupid for giving up his massive dick for that little prick over there.” I snarl at Davis. After being with Rogue, there’s no comparison.
“This girl is a keeper,” King states, making me grin wider.
“She sure is,” Rogue agrees.
“I don’t understand, Davis. How could you do this to me?” The bitch looks devastated.
Because he’s a lying piece of shit who wouldn’t know decency if it bit him in the ass.
“Really, Kara?” Rogue cuts his stare towards her.
“You think the man who slept with his brother’s wife would be faithful to you?
I knew you weren’t the smartest tool in the shed, but I didn’t realize you were that dense.
He was cheating on you for over a year and you didn’t have a clue.
Oh, and he just bought her a five-carat diamond ring.
You may want to talk to the attorney about that. ”
“You what?” She turns to her husband and the look on her face is priceless. I wish Viv was here to see this.
I’m just as shocked as she is about the ring. Even after telling him I wasn’t interested, he was still going to propose. He’s definitely a stalker.
“I’m so thankful you walked into the restaurant that day and revealed the truth.” I turn to her, my voice nice and smooth. “You showed me exactly what kind of man he is. You’re a lying, cheating bastard, Davis, and I regret wasting a year of my life on you.”
“You all need to take this matter outside,” grunts Asshole Senior. “This is not the place for this.”
“Why, Dad?” Rogue cocks his head. “Are you worried your reputation will be tainted? Let me tell you. After we send the media all the emails and text messages we’ve uncovered, your reputation will be over.
And this piece of shit you call your son is finished.
Your medical career is over, Davis. As soon as we file a harassment report and a restraining order, you’ll have to answer to the medical board for your behavior. ”
“You can’t fucking touch me,” Davis spits at him. “And it wasn’t harassment. No one can prove that.”
“I can.” I smile. “And I have witnesses from work and from campus to prove my case. You’re going down, motherfucker.”
“If you don’t marry this girl, I will,” King chuckles from the side.
“Oh, I’m definitely marrying her.” Rogue hits me with another smile. “I love you, baby.”
“I love you too.”
“You hear that, Davis?” He turns his smirk on the lying asshole who finally looks like reality is sinking in.
“Looks like I’m the one who gets the girl this time.
And I got the best one in the whole world.
You can have that bitch; my girl is the sexiest little thing ever.
Sweet, pretty, smart, and gives the best…
” I place my hand over his mouth, and he chuckles against it.
“Your father is listening,” I tease, looking toward King.
“Fuck, babe.” Rogue shakes his head. “It’s time for us to head out.”
“Damn!” King grunts. “I’m fucking glad the asshole stole that one from you. This little one is a million times more incredible.”
Rogue suddenly scoops me up and gives me a kiss.
“A big fucking amen to that.” He places one more kiss on my lips, taking his tongue away from me all too soon.
“It’s time to get you home so I can have my wicked way with you.
” He turns toward his dad and brother, and I watch them slink back.
They’re actually afraid of him. “You all are done. Be prepared to feel the pain.”
And on that note, he’s turning and carrying me toward the exit, telling the others to handle them.
I really hope that’s the last time I have to see those toxic people.
From now on, I’ll be Rogue’s family. Along with all those men who were standing at his side tonight.
Now, I understand what Shayna’s been talking about, why she didn’t want to leave them.
They’re good men. Loyal and protective. And honest.
That’s the most important trait if you ask me.
