14. Ronny’s aunt (Laura)

RONNY’S AUNT (LAURA)

I have been watching Ronny and that bitch that took my kid for the last couple weeks.

I am living out of my car, because I lost the house as I didn’t pay the bills, then I used all of the money I got for the kid to pay for hotel rooms and drugs.

I have never had such fun in my life than this last couple of weeks, using anything and everything. I don’t remember half of the shit I have done.

Then I fucked up.

I ended up getting too much dope from the dealer and the money was suddenly gone. I racked up too much debt to cover it.

Now he is going to murder me if I don’t pay up.

My nephew seems like he is rich—he was a pro hockey player, after all—and the MC and his daddy are loaded enough to just drop fifty K without batting an eye.

So, I have waited for the opportunity to steal the kid back and get more money in the form of a ransom to give the brat back.

She is so damn protected by everyone, I never stood a chance to carry out my plan.

My boyfriend was keeping my habit fed until his mom wouldn’t give him any more money and now, he is busy scratching the sores on his arms from shooting up all the dope.

He is stupid, but even the stupid can be led when it comes down to it. I smack my hands on the steering wheel, the urge to shoot up and feed my addiction intense.

I’m almost at the point where I’d need to start hooking up again; that’s how Madeline came about. Her dad was a white man that I hooked up with for dope.

Sirens blast behind us and I duck down in my seat, thinking it’s the police, but it’s an ambulance pulling into the parking lot.

You know they have all kinds of pain pills, morphine, and shit in there. A man jumps out of the back, grabbing a gurney, and runs inside of the club, leaving the doors wide open.

“Wake up, fucker, we have one shot to go steal that ambulance and get some dope.” I smack him hard across the face to wake him.

Chester snaps to attention at the mention of him getting his next fix. “You are going to go to the driver and hit him in the head with something hard,” I instruct him and without a second thought, he gets out of the car before running over to the ambulance.

I go after him, the need to get my fix overpowering me, not caring if anyone sees us. I jump into the back of the ambulance and see Chester hitting the man in the head with a rock at the front.

Well, fuck, maybe I will keep him, after all.

He opens the door and drags the driver out, dumping him across the parking lot just as the other EMT jumps into the back, reaching for his bag, when he sees me standing there. “What the fuck are you doing?” he asks, but he doesn’t get to do anything about it when I pick up a tank of oxygen, hitting him square in the face.

He falls out of the ambulance and Chester drags him across the lot, tearing off his clothes so he can dress up as the EMT.

Just as he is getting the clothes on, a lady comes out of the clubhouse. “What is taking so long?” she asks loudly, and I almost fucking faint on the spot at almost getting caught. I stay inside of the ambulance and Chester looks like is one second from going insane from being dope sick due to the lack of the drugs.

“Go inside and get her, we can use her for a ransom or some shit. They’re all loaded,” I tell Chester, and he nods so hard his teeth rattle.

He runs inside of the clubhouse, while I hold my breath, praying he doesn’t fuck this up because it’s life or death for me.

He comes back out a few minutes later, and you can’t make this shit up. It’s the bitch that stole my daughter, and I know exactly how much money I will be getting for her. She is even better than the brat.

I duck into the driver’s seat, so they don’t see me in case any of the men that came to my house are around.

He gets her inside of the ambulance, when I hear yelling. I can’t resist the urge to turn around and I see Ronny running straight for Olivia.

Fuck me.

Okay, what to do? How can I pull this off to make me a whole lot richer?

Ronny

The amount of shock I feel at seeing my biological aunt sitting in the driver’s seat of the ambulance…

She gets up from her seat, pointing a gun straight at Olivia who lying on the gurney. Fuck. My blood runs cold through my veins as I try to wrap my head around what the fuck is going on.

My aunt climbs through the hole and into the main part of the ambulance, with the gun still pointing at Olivia.

She is careless with the way she is holding the gun, I don’t think she knows what she is doing, and that’s almost scarier than her knowing because she can have it accidentally going off.

I stand up and look down at my aunt, towering over her. “So, what is the grand plan?” I ask her.

The guy that is helping her is distracted by looking through the drawers, getting desperate for his fix.

She looks over at him to see if he has found anything, and I take a step closer to her without her noticing.

If I can get in front of Olivia, the gun pointed at me instead of her, then I can actually fucking breathe.

She looks back at me. “I was originally going to kidnap my kid for a ransom, but she was brought right into my lap, and I think she is a better idea. This way I don’t have to take care of the brat.”

I fist the side of the bed, trying not to show how pissed off it makes me that she wanted to kidnap Madeline.

My girl has been through so much and it pisses me the fuck off that people always want to fucking hurt her.

“So, what the fuck do you want?” I ask her, taking a step closer. She moves the gun from Olivia to me.

My aunt takes a step back like she is scared of me. Oh, she should be fucking terrified. “I need a hundred thousand dollars. Then I will let you go.”

“Okay,” I agree even though there is no way in hell I’m giving her another cent. Her death warrant was signed and the grim reaper is waiting to take her.

The guy stops looking in the cabinets at the mention of money. “Fuck yeah.” He looks so excited. The man disgusts me, as well as this bitch in front of me.

I reach into my back pocket and take out my wallet, where I have a check book in it, but I write the words, You’re dead and I will be coming for you. Then I proceed to fill out the rest of the check while she watches me eagerly. But the check is going to be worthless.

I hand her the check and she doesn’t even look at it, dropping the gun. “See, this is all I wanted—money.” She smiles at me like I’m her best friend, like she just didn’t threaten my woman.

Who is hurt and sick.

I want to kill her right now, the need to watch the life leave her eyes is overwhelming, but I need to take care of my girl first and make sure she is okay.

My aunt starts laughing and runs out of the back of the ambulance, the guy going after her on her heels. Brian runs to the front and locks the door so she can’t get back in, then he starts driving again toward the hospital.

Once the ambulance starts moving again is the first time Olivia has moved since this whole shit show started.

She barely cracks her eyes open to look at me. “Well, I thought those people would never leave,” she says, her voice sounding rough.

“Fuck, you had me scared. Is your head hurting?” I ask her, pulling her off the gurney and into my lap.

She nods. “I got so scared when they said you were shot and I passed out instantly. I think I forgot to eat lunch and that helped contribute to it.”

I kiss her forehead, holding her way too tight, but that shit terrified me. I don’t give a fuck what happens to me, but not being able to protect someone I love is the worst kind of torture.

Brian stops the ambulance and outside of the window, I can see we are in front of the hospital.

I open the door and step out with Olivia in my arms and rush toward the entrance. Konrad runs up as we get toward the doors. “Fuck, we were coming to chase you down when we saw you heading toward the hospital.”

That is when I hear the rest of the horde of bikes—my family is here. “My fucking aunt stole the ambulance with us in it.” He looks horrified at my words, but we hurry the rest of the way inside.

“Get me a gurney,” Konrad tells the nurse at the front, and she runs off to grab a bed. Olivia raises her head, gasping loudly. “Oh my God! I forgot that you were shot. You shouldn’t be carrying me.” She tries to get me to put her down, but I don’t.

Brian takes her from me with a smirk, making me want to punch him in the mouth for that.

“I just got shot in my thigh, it’s not serious,” I tell her, and she looks relieved but she is still pale.

“I can’t believe I was kidnapped again,” she mutters under her breath, just before her eyes meet mine. “I’m glad it was us rather than Madeline, otherwise I would have killed her.” She growls the last part adorably with her little hands clenched.

Her dad is trying not to laugh.

“Easy, tiger, she will get what she deserves.” I look at her pointedly, telling her with my eyes that my aunt is going to get what’s coming to her.

She runs her hand over her face to the back of her head, feeling for the knot on the back of her head. She winces, and I look around for the nurse, wanting to get Olivia something for the pain.

The nurse eventually comes back with a gurney and Brian lays her down. I hold the back of Olivia’s head so she doesn’t jostle it.

They wheel her away and a nurse steps in front of me. “We will take good care of her. I will take you to her room in the ER department where you can wait for her, and where you can get your leg looked at.”

I look down to see the wound is starting to bleed again.

“I will stay with her the whole time,” Konrad tells me before he runs to catch up with her, leaving me with Brian.

The nurse takes me into a room where she has me sit down so she can look at the wound, but the pain is nothing like waiting to see if Olivia is okay.

Olivia

Konrad never once left my side while I was at the emergency room. I was a little bit worried that Ronny’s aunt would come back and try something again.

I also want to talk to Ronny so that he doesn’t blame himself for this, because it’s not his fault.

An hour later, after a ton of tests and scans, I’m finally taken back to a room where Ronny is sitting in fresh clothes that someone must have brought for him.

He stands up when he sees me and lifts me out of the wheelchair, carrying me over to the bed with me in his lap.

I wait for the nurse to leave before I talk to him. “Ronny, I know you, and I know you feel guilty for what she did, but this is not on you, okay?”

He nods, kissing my temple. “She is going to die,” he says bluntly, running his hands down my body like he is reassuring himself that I’m still here and that I’m okay.

“Good.”

He looks at me, slightly dazed at my comment, before chuckling. “She can’t live and be a threat to our daughter. She is going to want to come back over and over again for more money.”

“Who has Madeline?” I ask him.

“Mom has her. Christopher brought me some clothes.” I look over to the trash can where his blood-soaked clothes are.

There is a knock on the door, and my dad walks in with a bag of food. His face lights up when he sees me. “I brought you some food since you said you forgot to eat lunch.”

He opens the bag and hands me a sub, along with a bag of chips. “Thanks, Daddy.” He leans over, squishing me right in the middle between his body and Ronny’s. Dad kisses my forehead like he has my whole life.

I have been blessed with an amazing dad.

He reaches into the bag and hands Ronny his own sub. I hide my smile behind my food. My dad likes to pretend at times that he doesn’t like Ronny, but I know he loves him.

“Thanks, Dad,” Ronny jokes, and my dad scowls in mock anger.

I giggle with my mouth full of food, happy to have my two guys in the same room. “Did you get all of the girls?”

“We did, every last one of them, and they’re going to new homes.”

“Thank God. I feel so much better now,” I tell them both, feeling a weight off my shoulders. This is the most awful crime in my eyes, because as a social worker we are supposed to protect kids.

I wasn’t a part of it, but I still feel like I could have stopped it.

Not sure how much time has passed when the door is opened and Konrad walks in holding an iPad. “I have good news and good news,” he says, grinning way too happily.

We wait for him to respond. “You don’t have a concussion, but your blood sugar was seriously low and that’s what caused you to faint.” I feel properly chastised by the dad look he is giving me.

I look down at my lap and Ronny laughs at my expression, along with my dad. “Do you mind if your dad and Ronny stay here for the next part?” he asks.

“Yeah, I don’t mind.”

Konrad looks down at the iPad once again. “Another factor is, you are pregnant. It’s very early stages and sometimes that can make women have low blood sugars or feel fatigue.”

Wait, what?

“Fuck yeah,” Ronny says loudly, pulling me around to hug me tight, while my dad looks like he is bewildered as he sits in the chair. His face doesn’t how any emotions.

“I can’t believe it, Madeline is going to be a big sister.”

“Congrats, you guys,” Konrad tells us. “You need to find an ob-gyn and I went ahead to write you a prescription for prenatals, so you can get started on them right away.”

It feels so weird to think that I have something growing inside of my tummy. A baby that I’m going to carry, have it grow inside of me.

Ronny kisses me all over my face, and my dad gags. “Please, stop that.” I laugh and turn to him when he gets up to give me a hug. “It’s not fair, my baby is having a baby. I don’t like it, but you can still come home with me and be my baby girl again.” My dad looks like he is seconds away from bursting into tears.

Konrad slips out of the room after I catch him setting the prescription on the counter by my bed. “I better not hear you telling my woman to leave me.” Ronny pushes my dad off me jokingly.

“Holy shit, I’m getting old. I’m a grandfather twice over.” My dad runs his hand over his face aggressively. I giggle at him and his actions.

All my dad ever wanted was for me to be happy, and at one point in my life I never thought I would have any of this.

“Let’s go home and see our baby,” I tell Ronny, then I give my dad one last hug as I watch him trying to blink away the tears.
