18. Church Clap

Chapter 18

Church Clap

Asher

I need more information about what Esme was talking about last night. She doesn’t seem to remember much, and if she does, she’s acting the same way as before. She must have forgiven me, but I need to get some more information. I have a plan, but I have to get through chores today first. I’m not avoiding her anymore, obviously, so I have her in the garden today. I left some electrolyte water and Advil next to her bed this morning, and she seems to be feeling pretty good. I keep catching her dancing in circles while picking produce. The tomatoes are popping off, and they need to be picked before the birds get them. Anything that is blushing has to be brought inside. We’ll can them later, but I have to have a large amount of them before I can even think about going through the process.

I’m repainting the chicken coop. I’ve been spending my free time making new nesting boxes and creating a new coop for the butt-nugget producers. Esme suggested at one point that maybe if there was a nicer place for them to lay said butt nuggets, maybe they’d produce more. I’m not convinced, but she’s taken a liking to them, so if it makes her happy, I’ll do it. She chose a hot pink and turquoise blue to paint the whole coop worth. She traced out these polka dots all over it, I’m just doing as I’m told at this point. She also got drapes for the boxes for them to have ‘privacy.’ Whatever, these better be some top-tier eggs. This is the bougiest coop I’ve ever seen. I’d bet money that no one else cares this much. I shake my head and laugh as I paint another dot. The things this woman has me doing.

Once I’m done painting, I walk up to her and poke her sides. She screeches and jumps back while swinging the little shovel she had at me. I duck at just the right time, narrowly avoiding her hitting me upside the head with it.

“What the fuck?” she yells at me. She rips her earbud out and smacks my chest.

“Ouch.” I chuckle. “What was that for?”

“For fucking scaring me, you asshole.”

“Oh,” I say, acting offended. I put a hand to my chest and do my best to act hurt by her words, but she just cocks a hip and puts her hand on it.

“Okay, you win. Anywho, how do you feel about going into town tonight?”

She cocks her head to the side.

“Into town? What for?”

“There’s this little bar that does line dancing in town.” I swear she goes green as soon as I say bar. “You don’t have to drink unless you want. I just thought it’d be fun to let loose and go dancing.”

She straightens up. “I love dancing. Yeah, let’s go.” She smiles at me, and my heart warms. Fuck these stupid warm feelings.

I clear my throat to try to get them to go away. “Okay, we’ll head out around nine. Here, give me your number, and I’ll text you a link for the place.”

I hand my phone over, and she inputs her number. “It’s a date,” she says with a smile.

“It’s, uh, a date I guess,” I say with a smile back. It’s not an actual date. I’m sure she knows that, but whatever floats her boat. I walk back over to finish up some more chicken coop renovation before heading inside.

At eight forty-five, there’s a knock on my trailer door. I open it, and I’m taken back by how fucking good she looks. She’s wearing a sundress that hangs low, and her tits are spilling out. She’s wearing some tight bra thing underneath that seems to keep them in place but also pushes them up further.

“Um, hey,” I say. “You look great.”

“I’d say the same,” she replies, “but you’re missing a shirt.”

I look down and remember that I hadn’t finished getting ready yet.

“Oh fuck, yeah.” I turn around and grab the T-shirt I had sitting out. “You can come in.”

She accepts the invite and invades my space. Her scent is immediately wafting around me, reminding me of every other time she’s been close enough to get this good of a whiff. I grab the beer I had sitting on the counter and down the rest of it.

I spin around and see she’s made herself comfortable at my table. I like the look of her in my space, on my bench, sitting at my table.

“You ready to go?”

After a thirty-minute drive, we get to Whiskey Ventures , the local bar. The bass is shaking the windows, and we hear it as soon as we pull up. Her eyes light up as she looks at the neon sign hanging above the door.

“Eek’’ slips past her lips while she bounces on the balls of her feet. The bouncer checks her ID and nods at me as I walk through the door. It’s been a while since I’ve been here, but in a small town, everyone knows everyone.

As we walk in, “Copperhead Road” is playing over the speakers. Esme looks at me with so much excitement, then looks back to the dance floor. There’s a swarm of people covered in a sheen of sweat dancing in the middle of the floor. There’s a disco ball above them, laser lights, and other flashing lights all around. It creates an erotic look while everyone is just line dancing and enjoying themselves. There’s no pressure to be good at dancing, as long as you’re having fun.

“Want a drink?” I ask her.

“Yes, please,” she draws out the word please and bats her eyelashes like she feels like that’ll work with me. “Tequila and pineapple,” she says with a huge grin. I should have guessed.

“Okay, share your location so I can find you if you get lost.”

She squints her eyes at me. “You won’t go psycho and stalk me, right?”

“You’re so fucking weird,” I say with a laugh. “Just do it.”

Without any more fight, she pulls her phone out and clicks the button to share her location. I get the notification a moment later. The song ends, and I hike a thumb to the bar so she knows where I’m going. I have to get there as soon as possible. The songs shift into two-step couple dances, and I look over my shoulder to see her watching. I grab our drinks and head over to her. We’re sipping on them from the sidelines, watching everyone enjoy themselves. I got us each two, so we can loosen up before my favorite line dance comes on.

We’ve both finished the two, and my song still hasn’t played. I can tell she’s antsy to dance, so I ask.

“Want to go dance?” I ask her. I hold out my hand, and she takes it. We step onto the dance floor, and I pull her close to me.

“Just follow my lead,” I say to her, and she does. She fits perfectly into my body and moves in sync with me. I couldn’t ask for a better dance partner right now. Once the song is over, we stand to the side to give us each a moment to catch our breath. I can tell she’s feeling good, and she’s just vibing with the music. After another couple songs, my song finally plays. I know she’ll love it, so I take her hand and pull her onto the dance floor. We’re in the middle of the space, and people are surrounding us all around. I look over at her, and she looks back up at me.

“Just follow me,” I yell at her. “I’ll talk you through what steps we’re doing at first. Then just repeat them. You got this. ”

“Okay, right, left, back, front. Repeat. Right right, left left, back back, front kick, and clap.”

She follows along like she’s done this a million times. She fumbled the first couple of steps and then has gotten every once since.

“Church clap!” she hollers. She’s swinging her hips, and her ass brushes against my front, and I groan from just the slight touch.

The next thing I know, we’re jumping and clapping again, and the next eight-count starts. For the next slow part, my ass is to her front, and I grind it on her to joke around. She surprises me by hooking an arm around my waist and spanking my ass. I right myself and turn around to gawk at her as we continue dancing. She’s laughing, and her eyes are crinkled at the sides, while her smile takes over her whole face. She looks so happy. I want nothing more than this right here. These feelings I’m getting are not going away, and I don’t know how much longer I can deny them.

We spend the next few hours dancing and sipping drinks. She’s maintained her “feel good” buzz. She’s not drunk, but definitely vibing. By the time we leave, her hair is pulled off her neck, and she is glistening with sweat.

“Thank you so much,” she says as we get back into my truck.

“Of course,” I say. When we pull off onto the road back home, I decide to get my questions answered.
