Chapter 16
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
MIA
W e timed tonight to perfection. With my dad out of town on a golf stopover, there was no way he could catch us.
I waited at my window, pulling the curtains back every couple of minutes to catch a glimpse of Jessie’s black muscle car pulling up along the sidewalk.
We’d snuck kisses every now and then—either in my office when no one was around or in the dark of the empty player parking lot.
But tonight, I hoped we’d have more time alone, and heat thrummed through me at the thought.
After nearly ten minutes of back and forth to the window, two headlights shone into the living room as Jessie pulled up outside the gates to our driveway, and my phone buzzed in my pocket.
J
I’m here, Sweetheart.
I giddily smiled down at the text.
Me
Okay, coming out now. Shall I bring snacks for the movie?
J
Taking his daughter out and eating his snacks. You make me want to do bad things, Mia. *wink emoji*
Grabbing the snacks I’d already packed, I made for the front door and out to his car.
When I pulled open the passenger door, I was immediately hit with air-conditioning and the beat of Nirvana. The cool air was a relief against the hot Texas summer. Even though it was early nightfall, the outside temperature was still crazy high.
Jessie put the car into gear and revved the engine as I clipped myself in.
“I would have gotten out and opened your door for you”—he ducked his head and peered out the windshield and then his side window—“but we both know I’m going to be seen.”
I shrugged my shoulders. “My next-door neighbor, Maybell, is likely already asleep.” I paused and looked at him, my lips tipping up at the corner. “Or at least she was until you woke her with your car. And I doubt anyone else around here cares.”
He leaned across the center console, tipping my chin up with his forefinger as brushed his lips over mine. “Such a brat.”
“You love it,” I replied, kissing him back and wanting more.
He pulled back and looked at me, his hand resting on the stick shift between us.
We didn’t say anything as he backed out and into the street, heading toward the drive-in theater he’d been promising to take me to since the night we had gone stargazing.
Tonight, they were showing an oldie but one of my favorites— The Fast and the Furious .
Taking my hand in his as we hit the freeway, Jessie smiled over at me. “You’re going to witness plenty of cars faster and louder than this in about thirty minutes, Sweetheart.”
I balked at him. “You know I’ve seen this movie, like, a thousand times before, right?”
“You have?”
I nodded. “Yep. It’s one of my all-time favorites.” I chuckled cheekily. “It has absolutely nothing to do with Paul Walker though.”
He let go of my hand for a split second, shifted gears, and then retook it. “Is that right?”
“Yep,” I teased, popping the P , entirely too excited about the night ahead of us.
“Well, I’m not sure I want to go and see this movie with you anymore.”
I stuck out my bottom lip, mocking him. The streetlights flashed inside the car as we sped along the freeway. “Awww … well, I guess we could go somewhere else. The snacks will go to waste though.”
Jessie squeezed my hand tighter as we came to a halt at a stoplight ahead. He turned to me, his lids slightly hooded. “Nah, we can still go watch the movie. I’ll just have to make sure your attention is on me and not Paul.”
I had no idea what part of the movie we were on, and I didn’t care either.
All I could think about was which part of my neck he was going to kiss and suck on next.
“Come over here, Mia,” he whispered into the crook of my neck as he leaned across the center section of his car. “Sit in my lap.”
Every muscle in my body contracted as I lifted onto my knees, almost bashing my head on the roof in the process, and climbed over into his lap. I was wearing a skirt with no tights, but I didn’t care if I flashed him or anyone else in this theater. I wanted Jessie to see me.
I knew I was wet, soaking through my panties. Part of me wanted to warn him I’d leave a mark on his jeans, but another more dominant part was too embarrassed to say anything. Jessie had been with so many more girls than I had boys, which was zero in total before him. I wanted to act confident, even if, inside, I was shaking with anticipation.
He flicked a button on the side of his seat, lowering it slightly. “There. Now you’re not crushed against my steering wheel.”
Bringing his palms around the nape of my neck, he continued to kiss me, the scruff of his jaw rubbing against my face.
I could feel it—his hard length—as I adjusted myself on his lap and braced my legs on either side of his seat, straddling him. I wanted him so badly, but I knew we couldn’t go much further tonight. The blacked-out windows of his car gave us some privacy, but I didn’t want to lose my virginity in a drive-in theater, even if it was with the right boy.
Jessie brought his hand to my waist, slowly grinding me on his hips. “Tell me if it’s too much, if I’m too much, Sweetheart.”
“It’s not too much,” I whispered back into his mouth, turned on by his presence, his tongue, his cologne, but mostly the hard bulge beneath me.
He teased the waistband of my skirt, running his fingertips along the front. His light touch sent shock waves throughout my body as he caressed skin that had never been touched in this way.
“I really want to touch you some more, Mia.”
I whimpered. I wanted it so bad. “Where do you want to touch me?”
He dropped his hand from my waistband as he slowly worked it down the flimsy material of my skirt until the back of his hand rested on his thigh.
He teased the hem of my skirt between his fingers. “Under here. Is that okay?”
My ability to speak had deserted me, and all I could do was nod as I rested my forehead against his and rose up onto my knees to give him the access he needed.
When his warm, rough palm met the inside of my left knee, his fingers began dancing toward my apex. I was so turned on; it almost hurt.
“I want to make you feel really good, Mia.”
As soon as his fingers found the fabric of my underwear, my breath caught in my throat. “Oh my God,” I gasped.
“I haven’t touched you yet, Sweetheart,” he replied.
“It already feels so good. I just hope I do it right for you.”
Jessie pulled back, his bright blue eyes shining in the lighting from the theater. “Do it right? Mia, I’m ready to blow straight into my pants—you turn me on that much. I’m fighting with everything I have to hold it together.”
I kissed him hard, my tongue swiping against his. The way he could make me feel everything, but mostly in this moment, the way he could make me feel safe, secure, and confident to go further than we ever had before.
“Touch me,” I pleaded.
His fingers found the edge of my panties. “I can feel how soaked you are for me. I promise I’ll be gentle.”
I waited to feel him, for his hand to find my center and do all the things I’d fantasized about in my bed, when his phone buzzed in the center console, and Mom lit up the screen.
It was like a switch flicked in his head. Relaxed and happy Jessie was gone, and in front of me was a guy panicking to grab his phone.
His cell was still ringing in his hand when he picked it up, but he didn’t answer it.
“Why didn’t you pick up?” I asked, confused.
He shook his head and adjusted himself beneath me. I could tell he wanted me to climb off, so I did, making my way back to the passenger seat. He didn’t fight me to stay where I was, and he didn’t seem sorry for breaking away from me when I had been about to hand myself over to him.
He looked in his rearview mirror and cranked the engine on the car.
“W-where are we going? The movie isn’t finished,” I asked, a lump forming in my throat and tears welling in my eyes.
I was embarrassed and shocked by the way he was reacting to a simple call from his mom. Was this just an excuse for him to get out of a situation he didn’t want to be in with me?
I thought I was what he wanted.
“I’m sorry, Mia. But I need to drop you back at your place. We’ll do this again another time.”
Through glassy eyes, I looked over at Jessie’s worried face. “Is everything okay?” What I’d meant to say was, Is it me?
He nodded once and hit the road, heading back to my house. “Everything’s fine. I just need to be somewhere.”
