Epilogue

VINCENT

E llie snuggles into my side on the couch. The Christmas tree lights make the room warm and soft and everything more magical.

“I can’t believe you never had a Christmas before,” my mom says, handing me a present.

“Well, Igor didn’t believe in them.”

Her smile turns a little sad. For the most part, these past few months with my parents and Ellie have been amazing, but every once in a while, my parents will be reminded of what I went through with Igor, and it depresses the mood.

“I’m just happy I’m here now,” I tell her.

Mom squeezes my hand. “I’m glad. We have a of Christmases to make up for.”

“We’re not going to have one every month,” Dad says, taking a sip of his eggnog.

“Why not? I think it would be a great idea. Don’t you, Ellie?”

Ellie nods at my mom. “I do. I love Christmas.”

Nico groans. “Now they’re working together, we’ll never win, son.”

Laughing, I start to tear off the wrapping paper. “I’m fine with it. The more Christmases, the better for me.”

The present is a new pendant.

“I thought it was time for an upgrade,” Mom says. “You’re finally back home with us, Vincent. Nothing could make me happier.”

I pull Ellie into my side and smile at my family. Mom is right.

Nothing could make me happier.
