15. Chapter Fifteen

Chapter fifteen

R yder

I spent most of the three-day weekend working on projects around the house.

It was the first time I could remember in forever that I hadn’t had to use the time off work to get caught up on paperwork, but Brennan had everything, not only all organized, but all caught up.

It was strange to think that my time off was actually my time off.

I was used to being busy, which meant having a bunch of time with nothing to fill it with was leading to a bunch of thinking.

I blamed Max and his stupid story about running into Casey and his new Daddy.

I finished up a project in the backyard while I thought about what he’d said.

It wasn’t that I wanted Casey back, but maybe Max was right, and it was time to try again.

I spent so much time working on this house, but wouldn’t it be better if I had someone to share it with?

If on weekends like this, I had someone to spend time with.

A certain blue-eyed blond flashed in my mind, but I shut that down quickly.

Brennan worked for me. Besides, he wasn’t looking for a Daddy.

He was independent and had a mind of his own.

He wasn’t looking for anyone to swoop in and tell him what to do.

I thought about him in that hardware store, at the end of his rope and about a half-second from losing it, and smiled.

Okay, maybe in certain situations, he needed a little help.

But for the most part, he had everything under control.

Not that he’d been in control that night when he was splayed out naked in front of me.

He’d definitely been needy in a good way that night.

Nope. Not going to let my thoughts go in that direction. He worked here, and he did a damn good job. End of story. I decided the best option was to take my bike out for a ride because sitting around here thinking wasn’t good at all.
