Chapter 10 #2

As absurd as it sounded, I believed him. I was livid that he had entered my home, and I wanted to throttle him, but that was the overwhelming emotion, not terror.

His scent was mesmerizing, so close it made every nerve ending in my body come alive.

I really wanted to ignore how good it made me feel.

Most alphas smelled nice enough. There were a few that smelled like rotten eggs, and I did my best to avoid those, but there was something about this alpha that was just so good.

Sometimes alphas and omegas scents went together perfectly, and usually, in those cases, those individuals had amazing long-term relationships. Some people called it destiny, if you believed in that sort of thing.

Me? I was dubious. Seeing as the most attractive male I had ever smelled was also potentially stalking me, obviously, my nose was somewhat confused.

“Look, you can believe me or not, but I am helping you.”

“Well, I don’t want your help,” I said, but my voice was weak and pathetic.

“Flora, you need to protect yourself.” He took a step closer to me, so we were only a few feet apart. The taser was still in my hand, close to my chest, pointed at him. He could tell I didn’t intend to use it again. The first time had taken all my bravery.

“I think I'm doing a pretty good job of protecting myself,” I said, jerking my head towards the taser.

A deep chuckle emanated from him. The sound made my stomach flip-flop with some unknown emotion. “I’ll give you that; I’m impressed you got me.”

“And I’ll do it again if you don't leave me alone.”

His brow rose. “Really?” he asked, his tone making it clear he didn’t believe that one bit.

I nodded.

He reached out, grabbing the taser out of my hand with minimal effort. The other hand went to my waist, backing me against the wall until we were inches apart. So close, I could make out the tiny freckle under his left eye and the strand or two of gray threaded throughout his blond hair.

Our chests pressed together, his forehead coming down to rest on mine. I had never been so close to an alpha. His scent was faint, yet somehow still overwhelming.

A whimper left my chest, out of fear or horniness, I didn’t know. Reasonably, I should have been terrified at having him so near, but my body was reacting differently.

“Look, you and I need to have a little chat. You’re not keeping yourself safe. So I will.”

“Why?” I asked breathlessly.

He considered his answer for a moment. “Because you need someone who’s going to watch out for you, and that’s going to be me. You need to take your safety more seriously.”

“You can’t…”

“I can, there’s nothing you can do to stop me.”

“I think that’s stalking…”

He shrugged. Honest to God shrugged.

“In that case, you’d better get used to me. My name is Spencer. You’ll be seeing a lot more of me.”

“Now, wait—”

“I’ve decided you need a keeper.” He said it so simply, like it was an obvious fact.

“Well, I don’t want a keeper!” I growled. The audacity of this alpha was mind-blowing.

He cocked an eyebrow. “Who says you get a say in that, princess?”

“Fucking creep,” I snarled.

He pressed against me harder—my back digging into the bookcase. “Now, I am not a weirdo lurking in the shadows. Am I uncouth and rough? Fuck, yes, but judging by the way your scent is flaring, you don’t mind that one bit,” he growled in a rough voice.

My face heated.

He wasn’t wrong. My body was reacting to his, my skin lighting up, my head swimming. I was attracted to him.

Clearly, I was having a mental breakdown.

Yet when he leaned forward, pushing his lips against mine, I didn’t stop him. It wasn’t gentle, far from it. Spencer devoured me, and I gleefully accepted him.

His hand on my waist tightened, the other pinning one of my hands to the bookcase behind me. I was totally at his mercy, and every fiber of my body lit up with excitement. My perfume flooded the stacks, making his pupils dilate.

He was everywhere, overwhelming me, but in the best way possible. My pussy wept as his tongue battled mine for dominance and won.

His grip travelled from my waist to my hip—I was held firmly in place by his body pressed against mine—before hooking the back of my knee and tugging my leg up.

Holy Mother of—

I was wearing a skirt and a sweater, so when he hiked my leg up, my barely covered pussy was pressed right against his considerable hardness.

That should have freaked me out, but no. I leaned into it, gyrating against the hardness, reveling in the sensation.

He took a step back, separating from me. Both of us stood there, panting heavily. All I could smell was rich pepper, and I wanted more.

“Until next time, princess,” he said, a slow smile spreading across his face.

I gaped at him, my mind reeling from what had just occurred.

He handed me back the taser with a devastating smile, taking a step away and disappearing before I could even string together a coherent thought.

Never in my life had I been kissed like that; it was possessive and rough, and I desperately wanted a repeat. Shaking my head, I screamed at myself mentally—what on earth was I doing? A stranger kissed me without permission, declared himself to be my keeper, then vanished?

At least he had given my taser back.

I didn’t bother to stick around. Bolting upstairs, I grabbed my belongings and hightailed it out of the library. With my eyes on the floor, I didn’t even look at my surroundings as I rushed back to my dorm.

The walk flew by, my mind unable to stop replaying how his lips felt against mine.

Once inside, I locked the door, took my desk chair, and shoved it under the handle for extra security. When I was happy it was secure, I padded over to my fridge to grab a soda.

Only, when the fridge door swung open, instead of finding my delicious Chinese takeout leftovers, everything was green.

All my food was gone, replaced by leafy veggies and chicken. My cans of soda had been replaced by bottles of water. Stuck to one of the bottles was a note:

You need to eat better.

There was no mistaking the scent that clung to the fridge.

“You fucking peppery bastard!” I snarled.

I was going to murder Spencer Whatever-His-Last-Name-Was.
