Chapter 28

Soft music filtered through Audra’s mind, drawing her from sleep. She shifted, reaching out an arm to slap at the nightstand. Her hand connected with Sam’s phone. Lifting the device, she pressed the snooze button, then set it down. She drew in a deep breath, then yawned it out and scrubbed at her face.

“I don’t want to get up.” Sam’s sleep-roughened deep voice filled her ear.

She bit back a shiver. That sound would never not send a jolt of need through her. “Me, either.”

He hooked a hand over her side and tugged, rolling her into his body. “Then let’s stay here a little longer.” He buried his nose in the space behind her ear.

Gooseflesh erupted down her neck and pricked her scalp. “I hit snooze.”

“Good.” His low growl was her only warning before he nipped at her neck, then smoothed the bite with his tongue.

Her eyes rolled back, and she let out a soft whimper. “Sam.” His name came out on a breathy whisper.

“Sam, what? Do that again?” He nipped her neck and smoothed the sting with his tongue. He moved up her jaw and pressed a kiss to the underside.

Audra tangled her fingers in his hair.

“Sam, please find that spot that makes my body weep?” He licked the hollow at the base of her neck.

Moisture flooded Audra’s core. How he still knew all the places that drove her wild, she didn’t understand. Though she shouldn’t be surprised. She remembered how to work him into a frenzy as well.

She brought a knee up, then hooked her leg over his. He put his hand on her hip and ran it down her thigh, curving over the back side to hold her there.

He tipped his hips forward, teasing her with his hard shaft. “Or, how about, Sam, please make me scream your name?”

She moaned and grasped his face, bringing it in alignment with hers. “Sam, shut up and kiss me.”

One corner of his mouth lifted on a naughty smile. “Yes, ma’am.” He latched onto her lips.

Fire exploded in Audra’s mind, and the room spun. She clutched his head, closing her eyes against the sensation, and moved her leg further around his, ignoring the ache in her hip. It was mostly healed. It certainly wasn’t enough to stop her from enjoying this.

Sam broke away from her to rain soft kisses along her jaw and down her neck. He nuzzled the neckline of her sleep shirt with his nose, dipping his tongue into the crevasse between her breasts. Audra’s nipples beaded painfully. They remembered what it was like to have his mouth on them. She grabbed his hand from her thigh and put it on her breast.

He took the hint and gently caressed her through her shirt. She moaned. It wasn’t enough. She needed his hand on her bare skin.

“More.”

He nudged her onto her back, raising up on one arm, and slid his other hand under the hem of her shirt. His calloused fingers skimmed her belly. She sucked in a breath as his touch tickled. The air escaped her on a low moan as he reached her bare breasts. One flick of his finger over her tight nipple sent a pulse of need through her core. For long moments, he toyed with her flesh; massaging the soft globes and plucking at her sensitive flesh until she thought she’d come without him touching anywhere else.

She’d missed this. Missed him. No one could make her body burn like Sam. He knew exactly what she needed to build the fire.

His hand reversed direction, moving down her abdomen and burrowing beneath the waistline of her sleep shorts and panties. Her breath caught, her body anticipating his touch. When it did come, it was better than she remembered. Perhaps because it had been so long. The first glide of his fingers through the wetness coating her was enough to send her hips toward the ceiling and pull a keening cry from her throat. The fire burning in her veins flared, sparking a wildfire. Memories of their past encounters flashed through her mind on a reel. Her body responded like they’d never been apart. But at the same time, it yearned for something she hadn’t had in a decade. Sam. Just Sam.

She reached up, hooking a hand around his neck, and fused their mouths. The stubble on his face rasped beneath her fingers, loud in the quiet room. Her moan drowned it out, though, as he slid his hand lower, probing her entrance.

Abruptly, he pulled away. Audra blinked, trying to process the shift.

“We need to—to slow down.”

Body still humming, she frowned. “Why?”

“Your head. Concussion?”

“I’m fine.”

“Now. But what will the blood rush from an orgasm do?”

“I think I’ll be fine. It’s been almost two weeks, and I weathered the plane ride and change in air pressure all right.” She sat up and pushed him onto his back. Straddling him, she pressed her hands to his chest as she settled against him. “You can’t work me up like that, then leave me flapping in the breeze.” She circled her hips over the hard ridge beneath her. The friction sent a zing of pleasure through her, and she caught her lip between her teeth.

“Dammit, woman.” He grabbed her hips to hold her still.

“I’ll be fine. We can go slow to limit the exertion.” She was getting off whether he did it to her or not. She refused to go about her day in a perpetual state of arousal because he worked her to the brink and didn’t finish her. “My blood pressure is probably already high.”

He growled, and she could see the indecision in his eyes still.

Time to play dirty. She whipped her top off.

Sam groaned and reached for her breasts.

The alarm on his phone went off again. Audra leaned forward, silencing it for good. Her eyes rolled back as Sam sucked the tip of her breast into his mouth.

“That better mean you intend to finish me.”

“I intend to finish us both.”

Thank heavens.Audra sank down again. Reaching under her hips, she dragged his boxer briefs down, setting him free. She grasped his length, running her fingers along the velvety skin. Her mouth watered, wanting to taste him. Another time. He was needed elsewhere more urgently.

“Baby, you play much more and I’ll be finishing you another way.”

“Promises, promises.” She gave him a squeeze.

He let go of her hips and slid his fingers inside one leg of her shorts. Tugging the silky fabric and her panties to the side, he pushed his fingers into her channel.

Her grip on him faltered. All her brain cells redirected to her core and the pleasure his touch created. It wasn’t just euphoria she felt, though. Being with him filled a part of her soul she hadn’t realized she’d left behind all those years ago.

An explosion of ecstasy went off in her brain, blinding her to her surroundings. Her body clamped down on his fingers, and she let out a sharp cry, unable to contain the pleasure.

“Lift your hips.”

On autopilot as she rode the wave, she did as he asked. A moment later, she felt the head of his shaft push against her entrance. Her body took over, and she sank down. “Oh!” She sucked in a sharp breath as he filled her.

“You okay?” he asked, a host of tension in his voice as he held himself still.

“I’m fine. Don’t you dare stop.”

“No, ma’am.” He grasped her hips and rolled his own.

The friction reignited the flames that had cooled to an ember only moments before. Her world tilted and the room spun. It took her a second to realize he’d pulled out and changed their positions. Now he sat back on his knees. In the dark, she could just make out his form in the strip of light coming in between the curtain panels.

“Sam?” She propped herself up on her elbows. “Is everything all right?”

“It’s fine. I’m letting the moment sink in.” His hands fluttered up her thighs until he reached the waistband of her shorts. Hooking his fingers over the top, he tugged, peeling them and her panties down. “I decided I wanted you completely naked.”

She raised her hips, wincing a bit as the one hitched. She’d be sore later, but she didn’t care.

When the last of her clothes were off, he crawled toward her, spreading her thighs wide as he got closer. His hands cradled her calves. He pushed, tipping her feet toward her shoulders. “You tell me if you need me to change position. I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Okay.” The word came out with a quaver to it. She knew what he planned to do. They’d made love in the same position many times when they were together before. It was one of her favorites. No one else had ever tried to make love to her the same way. She didn’t want them to. This was theirs.

He shuffled closer on his knees and tipped her feet back further, raising her hips. Then he leaned forward and impaled her with one long stroke.

She flopped back and moaned, loud and long, as he hit all the right spots on his way in. He didn’t give her a chance to recover before he withdrew and did it again. Powerless to do anything but hold on for the ride, she threw her arms over her head and grasped the headboard. In moments, he sent her riding high in the clouds again.

“Sam!” She writhed, as much as his grip would let her, as wave after wave broke, timed to each thrust. As the waves gradually faded, she caught her breath and realized he wasn’t done. A third orgasm built, but she refused to give in. Not until she could take him with her. “Let me go.” She knew what he needed.

Immediately, he released her. “You okay?”

“I’m fine.” She put her feet on the bed and sat up, pushing him back. He moved away, and she reached over to turn on the bedside lamp. Her breath hitched as she took him in. Muscles shifted beneath his golden skin, the layer of sweat dampening him enhanced the effect. Her gaze strayed to his erect shaft, and again, she wanted to taste him. But she wanted the connection of their bodies more.

His gaze took in her surely disheveled appearance. Sleep always did crazy things to her hair. She wasn’t one of those women who could go to bed with perfect hair and wake up the same way. Sex hadn’t helped her problem.

He crooked a finger at her, beckoning her closer. Audra didn’t waste time. She walked forward on her knees and wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist, sinking down onto him as she did so. He moaned against her mouth and shifted them toward the edge of the bed. He’d always been a close contact kind of lover. Nothing set him off faster than holding her close while she rode him hard.

So, that’s what she did. Pressed against him, she tangled their tongues and rolled her hips, faster with every second. She raked her nails along the powerful muscles of his back, eliciting gooseflesh and a deep moan. A second later, he broke away with a harsh cry. His fingers dug into her hips, biting into the fading bruises. She barely felt it. Her third climax had hit, taking her away from reality.

Sam buried his face in her neck. She could feel his warm breath wash over her heated skin. Her body clenched around his again. He lightly bit her neck, then lifted his head.

A satisfied smile tipped his lips up. “So, you up for a shower?”

Audra laughed. “We need one.”

Fire licked at his eyes. He palmed her hips and stood, their bodies still connected. “I know I said once you got me off it would be a bit before we could do it again, but apparently, I was wrong. My body missed you and has other ideas.”

She felt him stir within her. Every step he took toward the bathroom rubbed him against her sensitive flesh. She bit her lip. “I’m okay with that.”
