Elsie #2
I wasn’t quite ready for my test, so I didn’t say anything more and got back to looking over my notes.
The guys did their best to remain quiet and let me study, but sadly, it wasn’t long before Torch leaned over and whispered, “You’re gonna have to bring some of these chicks to the next club party. ”
“I hate to break it to you, but I don’t even know these girls. And the girls I do know would probably run scared at the sight of you two.”
“Whoa.” Torch’s brows furrowed. “That hurts. That hurts deep.”
“Sorry, but it’s true. Now, let me study, or I’m gonna bomb this test.”
Like a pouting child, Torch let out a frustrated breath, then leaned back in his chair.
For the next half hour, he and Wrath remained silent and let me finish preparing for my test. When I was done, they followed me over to the Keller building.
They were about to walk inside with me until I said, “You guys can just wait for me here. I won’t be long. ”
“Straight in, straight out?” Wrath asked.
“Yeah. I promise.”
He nodded, then watched intently as I turned and started inside.
I was just about to open the door when I spotted Ben in my peripheral.
He was just standing there, watching me, and when he realized I’d seen him, he bolted.
I figured he’d just gone around to the other entrance, but when I got to the classroom, there was no sign of him.
I thought it was strange that he was skipping the test, but honestly, I had too many other things on my mind to care what Ben did or didn’t do.
I took my stupid test, and when I was done, I felt pretty good about it.
I met back up with the guys, and they followed me to the clubhouse.
By the time we got back, the place was a madhouse.
All the brothers were busy helping their ol’ ladies and kids get everything moved into their rooms, and it was utter chaos.
I felt like I was in the way, so I made myself scarce and went to my room.
I checked my phone to see if I had any missed messages, but sadly, I had none.
I could’ve used the time to get a little studying in, but I wasn’t in the mood and opted for a movie instead.
I crawled into bed and turned on my TV. It took a little searching, but I eventually found a romantic comedy with Patrick Dempsey.
I grabbed a cold coffee from my mini fridge, then curled back up on my bed.
It wasn’t long before I was caught up in the push and pull of the main characters.
While it was different, there were aspects of the movie that reminded me of my relationship with Wyatt.
The main characters were best friends, and the heroine was crazy about him— only neither of them knew it.
She had to meet someone else and almost marry him before either of them came to their senses.
Thankfully, it just took a silly date with Ben to draw Wyatt’s attention, and since then, things couldn’t have been better.
He was loving and attentive, and over the past few days, our friendship had only grown stronger.
It was a thought that had me wishing he was there watching the movie with me.
Curious to see if things had died down, I got up, and when I peeked out in the hall, I was pleased to see that things were finally settling down.
I was just about to close the door when I heard Wyatt say, “Hey.”
“Hey.” I opened the door wider and watched as he stepped inside my room. Just looking at him made it hard to breathe, hard to think, and I could tell by the look in his eyes that he felt the same when he looked at me. “I wasn’t expecting to see you. I figured you’d be busy with the brothers.”
“I can’t stay. I just wanted to come and make sure you made it back.”
“Yeah, Torch and Wrath came and kept an eye on things while I was in class.”
“Good.” He stepped closer. “I would’ve come myself, but I was working on something. I still am. That’s why I have to get back.”
“That’s okay. I understand.”
He stood there just staring at me; the onslaught of emotions raging in his eyes stole my breath.
My heart skipped a beat when he brought his hand up to my throat and gently wrapped his fingers around my neck.
He guided me forward as he leaned over and pressed his mouth to mine, kissing me tenderly, possessively.
In that moment, it was just him and me, and it was the most incredible feeling I’d ever experienced. His hands dropped to my waist, and a small, needful moan vibrated through my chest as he pulled me closer. The caress of his lips was magic, making me feel like I was floating on air.
He deepened the kiss, but only for a moment. Time wasn’t on our side, so I wasn’t surprised when he took a step back, breaking free from our embrace. We both stood there gazing at one another. Neither of us said a word. We knew exactly what that kiss meant.
The feelings we’d been experiencing were mutual, and as much as we wanted to act on them, they would have to wait—at least for now. Wyatt rested his forehead on mine as he whispered, “I have to go.”
“I know.”
“I’ll be back when I can.”
“I hope that’s sooner than later.”
“You and me both.”
He gave me one last kiss, then turned and left the room, leaving me alone once again. Still feeling the sensation of having his mouth on mine, I brought my hand up to my face and ran my fingers across my lips. I missed it. I missed him and wondered when I might actually get to see him again.
I couldn’t be sure, but I had a nagging feeling that it was going to be longer than any of us cared to imagine.
