Chapter 2
Chapter Two
Scythe
The loud music pulses through the speakers as I step over the threshold of Keeper’s Pub.
I didn’t really want to be here, but fuck, I needed a distraction.
None of the PPs interested me. Not even the new one who came along.
All I did was check out her background. She is sexy, hot as fuck, but not what I want.
Fuck.
I shake the thought off and make a beeline to the table Diablo and the others are sitting at.
I jerk my chin up in acknowledgment and look around to spot one of the waitresses.
Styxx calls out Saylor’s name getting her attention.
Not far from us, she nods smiling brightly.
All the girls who work here know what the members of the club drink when at the pub.
None of us change it up cause if we’re gonna get shitfaced that’ll be at the clubhouse. Less likely to fuck shit up.
Getting to the table, I pull out a chair and throw myself in it. “Thought y’all were gonna chill at the clubhouse tonight.”
“Ghost here thought it’d be nice to have a change of pace,” Beast responds while Diablo and Harvester snort.
“What he means is he wanted something besides a pocket pussy hole to sink into,” Styxx says, laughing. “I don’t blame ya. They get pretty needy.”
“No kidding.” Diablo chuckles. “I saw that new chick getting tagged by Azrael and Cerberus this morning and decided I’m good. Fresh pussy seems like a good thing to me.”
“Know what you mean, brother.” I grin and look to Saylor as she sets the beer in front of me.
“Thanks, darlin’,” I say to the girl making her blush.
We all treat the girls here with respect and as part of the family.
They’re good women and the club has a rule, those who work at any of the establishments we own, we don’t touch.
Conversation flows around the table, and it feels good to get out of the clubhouse.
Get away and have a distraction. For weeks now, I’ve been unable to focus and it’s complete bullshit.
It doesn’t help we’ve been on edge since the bullshit with Everleigh’s family.
Talk about some quacks for sure. I sure as hell don’t know how she was able to survive growing up with them before getting away.
If I want to really get into it, a particular brunette has got me twisted up.
I hadn’t seen her since the day she caught me with Chops and Fuzzy.
I’d been using the two of them to work off my stress and needs when she opened the door to my room.
I don’t know what she was thinking but she got a good eyeful.
She also bolted out of there, and I didn’t go after her.
The look she had in her eyes was all the answer I needed to know I was right all along.
She’s far too damn innocent for someone like me.
The damn woman wouldn’t be able to handle what I’d want to do to that sweet body of hers.
Right after that, she started dating some fucking tool. She also hasn’t been at the clubhouse lately. Not that I’ve seen at least. If she got with her friends, it was somewhere else. I’m willing to bet she’s hiding.
Leaning back farther in my chair, I figure Ghost and the others are onto something.
Finding some strange piece would just maybe help me get my mind off things.
I lift the bottle to my lips as I glance around the pub, and I go still when I see her on the other side of the bar, at one of the high-top tables, sitting with that tool date of hers.
I don’t know what she sees in the fucker.
He’s just some beefhead who works a construction job and spends far too much time at the gym.
Nothing wrong with working out, but if you’re gonna do it, you shouldn’t look like you’re on steroids which I’m betting he is.
I take a sip from my beer and lower the bottle back to the table without taking my eyes off her. She’s beautiful in every way, but completely off limits, only because I made her that way.
As if she feels someone watching her, she glances around until her gaze locks with mine. I figured I’d see some sort of emotion in her eyes, but they’re void of any sort. The only thing giving her away is the slight shake of her head as she looks away and returns to her conversation with Mr. Tool.
“You ever gonna go for that sweet piece over there?” Styxx asks, jabbing me in the ribs.
“No,” I grunt and take another drink of my beer. This time I finish it off. I call out Saylor’s name as she goes by and hold the bottle up, letting her know I need another one.
“So, you’re gonna let her be free game?” Beast cocks a brow, glances over my shoulder, and gives a chin lift. “Yo, Tombstone, Hellhound,” he calls in greeting.
Tombstone and Hellhound take seats at the table both looking like their favorite toy was taken from them.
“What’s going on with you?” Styxx asks while I just watch them.
“Fuckin’ women are going out of their minds right now.” Tombstone grunts.
“Why?” I cock a brow. It’s not unusual for them to be nutty. When you get them in a room and rile them up, they’re hilarious.
“Take one guess,” Hellhound says, glancing over to where Josephine is sitting. “Isabelle is upset because she found out today that Jos has been spending a lot of time at the mud park. When she’s not there she’s with the guy she’s dating.”
“And that bothers the girls, why?” Beast chuckles.
“Because they all used to go to the mud parks together. They didn’t go alone, which I get.
It’s reckless to go without people with you.
She could get hurt,” Tombstone grumbles and shoots me a look.
“You know she told them she’s gonna be going to some big mudding event in a week.
She didn’t tell them, another friend of theirs did. ”
“What’s the big deal?” Harvester asks, peeking over at Josephine and then back at me.
“They think she’s being reckless and doing shit that she normally wouldn’t be,” Hellhound answers and sighs.
A moment later, Saylor places a beer in front of me and hands one to the other two men. “Anyone else?” she asks, looking around the table.
“We’re good,” Styxx answers. “Thanks, babe.”
Nodding, she takes off. We all end up talking, changing the subject from Josephine, which I’m grateful for, but my mind still goes back to the fact the ol’ ladies, who are her best of friends, think she’s being reckless. But why?
I make a mental note to look into it. Maybe even confront her myself.
As that thought pops into my head, movement catches my eye and I twist enough to watch as a man, possibly my height with a close crop, heads in Josephine’s direction.
There’s no denying he’s heading to her, not with the way he’s watching her.
I sit up and am at the ready, watching. The guy says something, and Josephine turns, sees who it is and smiles brightly.
That smile is like a punch to my gut. Jealousy eats at my stomach when she jumps off her stool and rushes to the guy before throwing herself in his arms.
What the fuck is that?
Anger boils in my veins and if I stay here watching this, I’ll end up doing something I have no right to do.
Shoving myself out of my seat, I ignore my brothers’ protest and questions as I storm out of the pub.
I’ve gotta find my control before it snaps.
I can handle seeing her with that tool. This new guy, I don’t know who the fuck he is, but the way Josephine threw herself at him, pisses me the hell off.
My anger doesn’t subside, and I find myself glutton for punishment by driving by Josephine’s. I debated actually going up to the house. But rather than doing that, I sit just out of sight and watch the house. The lights are on and there’s a bike parked next to her truck.
In all the time I’ve known Josephine, I hadn’t heard about her having guys at her place. Then again, I didn’t really pay any mind to it before. I’m sure this is because I didn’t see anyone as a threat.
I think that’s what pisses me off the most.
I don’t want her, but I also don’t want anyone else to have her either.
I know it’s fucked up. If it weren’t for her being the way she is, sweet, innocent, a good girl, I wouldn’t feel this way.
I don’t want to stain her with the blood on my hands.
Or darken her life with the past of mine.
She’s special and doesn’t need that kind of bullshit.
Seeing the lights flicker out, I clench my jaw so tight I’m surprised my teeth don’t shatter.
I’m going to have to find out who the fuck he is and then figure out a way to get him away from Josephine.
