Chapter 61

Diesel

“We should shower more often,” Rory murmurs, hours later, as she stretches lazily against my body.

We’re in bed, the sheet over us, our bodies warm against each other and for the first time in my life… I’m at peace.

“I had that same thought somewhere along the time you wrung me dry,” I murmur.

Rory moves her leg across me and then hefts her body so she’s lying on me. I look down at her and taking in her smile and the look in her eyes, I can see I’ve done it. I don’t know how, but the ghosts and worries that have been reflecting back in those green depths are completely gone now.

“I love you, Noah.”

I cup my hand underneath the fall of her hair, I let my finger slide back and forth along the apple of her cheek.

“What do you want, Rory?”

“What?” She sounds confused, but I just keep staring into those green depths, knowing in my soul that I would do anything for this woman… Survive, wage war, work my ass off from sun up to sun down, just to make her happy.

“What do you want? I want to give you everything. Tell me what you want, Gorgeous and I’ll bust my ass to make sure you get it,” I tell her.

“Noah, you can’t,” she says, softly.

“I can. I don’t care what it is. You tell me and I’ll fucking get it for you, Rory.”

Her tongue darts out to lick her bottom lip and her eyes study me carefully. I let her see it all. I’m an open book with this woman.

“You truly mean that?”

“I mean it.”

“Sweetheart, you can’t.”

“I can, I?—”

“You can’t, Noah, because you already have. Everything I’ve always wanted, you’ve given me. A home, love, Ryan… I’m living the dream I’ve always had and you gave that to me.”

“Thank you for giving me another chance,” I tell her, my heart so full of emotion, it’s pounding inside of me. “If you hadn’t… If you had left me…”

“I didn’t have a choice, Noah. I love you too much. I couldn’t live without you.”

“Thank fuck for that, but I think you’re wrong,” I tell her.

“About what?” she asks, with a soft smile. I can’t stop myself from kissing that smile, kissing my woman.

“I’m the one who couldn’t live without you. I only came back and survived, because I knew you were waiting.”

Tears spring up in her eyes, and this time she kisses me, her tongue sliding into my mouth, as she gives me her sweetness… her love.

“Although, I do want more children and there’s a chance you didn’t accomplish that in the shower, earlier,” she teases when we break apart.

“I’m old, after that workout, I need time to recover, but Gorgeous I’ll give you a solemn promise.”

“What’s that?”

“I’m going to make sure our home is filled with babies and I’ll love each and every one of them, and their mother until the day they put me in the ground.”

“I promise to love their father and them in this world and into the next,” she says softly.

“Is this a competition?” I smile.

“No,” she whispers, her face growing serious, but still filled with a softness, love radiating in her eyes. “It’s a vow, because a love as strong as the one we have can’t die. It will last forever.”

My hand clenches in her hair and I let her words runs through me, filling any cracks or crevices that she hadn’t already healed. There aren’t a lot of empty spots these days. That’s because of the miracle that is Rory. Still, right now I’m so full of peace that my own tears of happiness reflect in my eyes. I can feel them and I know she can see them.

“That it will, Gorgeous. That it will,” I promise, and then even though I didn’t think I had it in me, I make love to my woman again, because just like she has from day one…

Rory makes miracles happen.
