Chapter 18
Mia
The sun is streaming through the blinds the next morning, causing me to squint. I shield my eyes, and I hear Killian chuckle.
“Sorry,” he says, and I hear his footsteps on the hardwood floor. A moment later, the blinds are closed, and I open my eyes, and I’m able to see again.
“What…” My voice trails off.
My memories from the night before come back to me in bits and pieces – the rooftop. The women that knew Killian. Throwing up. Sitting on the bathroom floor.
But I’m still so confused. Did I end up having a drink when I was on the rooftop with Maddox? I must have. I must’ve blacked out.
Fuck, I think nervously. Killian is going to be so mad at me that I left the VIP section when he told me not to.
“I’m sorry,” I say quickly, and he frowns at me. “I don’t remember drinking. I must’ve blacked out, Killian, shit.”
“No, sweetheart, you didn’t,” he says gently, and I stare up at him in confusion.
“W-what?” I manage to get out.
“You were drugged, Mia,” he says quietly, and I feel like the room tilts for a moment.
“What? By who?”
He lets out a loud sigh. “My ex.”
“The one you hooked up with last night?” I can’t help but ask.
“What?” he asks, shaking his head. “No. I don’t know why they said that. Nothing happened between me and my ex last night.”
“Oh,” I reply, my head spinning.
But then I frown, still feeling beyond confused.
“Why did she drug me?”
“I’m not sure yet,” he admits. “I’m trying to find that out.”
“Is that why I feel so weird?” I ask.
I feel abnormally slow right now. My thoughts, my movements. It’s taking me much longer than it should to comprehend what Killian’s saying to me. I don’t like the way that I feel, at all.
Killian nods. “This is normal. The drugs are working their way out of your system. GHB and a lot of Benzo’s.”
“Fuck,” I murmur, putting my head in my hands.
“I made you breakfast,” he says, and I stare at him in disbelief.
He brings a tray to the bed, placing it in front of me. There are eggs, toast and bacon on the plate, and my stomach flips.
“I’m sorry,” I say quietly. “I can’t eat.”
Killian frowns. “Mia, you need to eat. You were so sick last night. You have nothing in your system.”
“I’ll get sick,” I tell him, and he shakes his head.
He pulls the chair that he was sitting on closer to the bed, and he leans over and picks up a piece of toast that’s on the tray. When he brings it to my lips, I stare at him incredulously.
“What are you doing?” I ask, and he smirks.
“What does it look like?” he retorts. “I’m feeding you.”
“Am I in an alternate universe?”
Killian laughs loudly.
“No, sweetheart,” he replies. “You’re not. Open up.”
“Killian-"
He uses the opportunity to bring the toast to my mouth, and I glare at him as I take a small bite.
I chew and swallow while he smirks at me, and I shake my head at him.
He uncaps the bottle of water that’s on the nightstand and then he brings it to my lips. I try to take it from him, but he doesn’t let me.
“You’re shaking,” he says. “Let me.”
He’s not wrong, I am shaking. I sigh, letting him put the bottle to my lips as I sip it thirstily.
“I can only imagine how dehydrated you are,” he says, more to himself than to me. “Maybe I should have someone come with some IV’s –"
“No,” I shake my head. “I hate needles. No thank you.”
He raises his eyebrows up at me, a look of surprise on his face.
“You hate needles?”
I nod, and he smirks again.
“What?”
“You don’t strike me as someone who would be afraid of a needle.”
“I didn’t say that I was afraid,” I retort. “I just don’t like them.”
“Alright,” he replies, nodding. “No needles. No IV’s.”
He picks up the toast again. “Take another bite.”
“You’re so bossy,” I reply, taking the toast out of his hands. But I do what he says, anyway.
He grins at me. “Good girl.”
Fuck, he has to stop saying things like that to me. I feel myself blush, and I avert my gaze.
I reach for the water again, and he brings it back to my lips.
We’re both quiet for a moment, and then I look over at him.
“You’re not mad at me?” I ask hesitantly, and he frowns.
“Why would I be mad at you?” he asks. “My loser ex drugged you, Mia. That’s not your fault.”
“Because I didn’t listen to you,” I point out. “I left the VIP section.”
He frowns. “You’re right. You disobeyed me. Maybe I should be mad at you.”
My jaw drops open, and he smirks.
“I’m messing with you,” he says. “I mean, now that you pointed it out, do I want to be somewhat pissed at you for not listening to me? A little bit. But I understand why you took off.”
“You do?”
He nods. “You thought I left you at the club, alone, to hook up with my ex. I would’ve been pissed if I was you, too.”
I’m shocked that he’s admitting that. I wasn’t expecting him to.
“I thought you were going to punish me,” I blurt out, and he chuckles, a sly smile on his lips.
“Do you want me to punish you, Kitten?” he asks. “Once you’re feeling better, that can certainly be arranged.”
“No,” I snap, my cheeks heating up. Killian laughs louder.
I notice the clock on the nightstand for the first time, and I frown when I realize it says 1:30.
“It’s 1:30? P.M.?” I ask, and he nods.
“Shit,” I say quickly. “Isn’t the charity event relatively soon?”
“Don’t worry about the event,” he tells me. “We’re not going.”
“But your parents-"
“Fuck my parents,” he snaps. “The doctor said it could take you forty-eight hours to start feeling normal again. I’m not risking anything happening to you again.”
“I think I’ll be okay,” I start, trying to push the covers back, but Killian stops me.
“Absolutely not,” he snaps. “Don’t you dare move from that bed, Mia.”
“Okay,” I finally cave, nodding. “I won’t.”
I am tired still. I wouldn’t mind going back to sleep.
Killian picks up the tray and stands up.
“I’ll be right back,” he tells me. “I got you Gatorade, I’ll go grab it. Electrolytes will be good for you.”
I nod, laying my head back on the pillow.
My head is spinning as I think about everything I just learned.
Killian’s ex drugged me. Why? Because I’m dating her ex? That’s insane, right? I mean, we’re not actually dating. But if she knows about me then I’m assuming she knows that we’re engaged. She wouldn’t know that it’s not real.
And Killian’s not mad at me. He’s taking care of me. What the hell does that mean?
I inwardly groan. I can’t worry about what that means right now. It’s hurting my head to even think about it.
I let my eyes close, and I drift off within seconds. By the time Killian gets back, I’m out again.
