Chapter 27
Killian
I wake up the next morning with Mia in my arms, and I honestly feel like I’m dreaming. It feels surreal.
She stirs, letting out a cute little sigh, and then she blinks her pretty blue eyes open, looking up at me.
“Hi,” she whispers.
I lean down to kiss her, and she squirms away from me.
“I haven’t brushed my teeth yet!” she exclaims, and I laugh loudly.
“I don’t care,” I reply, shaking my head. “You better give me a kiss right now.”
She giggles, which is like music to my ears. I haven’t heard that laugh in a long time, and I had no idea how much I missed it.
Mia brings her lips to mine, kissing me gently. When she pulls back, she’s just gazing at me.
“I love you, Killian,” she says quietly.
I reach out, touching her cheek. God, she’s so fucking beautiful. The way that she’s looking at me fills me with such a sense of hope, of love. I truly don’t deserve her. But she’s mine, anyway, and I’m so grateful for that.
“I love you, too, Kitten.”
My phone vibrates, ruining the moment. I groan, and Mia giggles again.
“It’s okay,” she says. “Answer it. We can’t avoid last night forever.”
She’s not wrong. Last night, I texted Reign and told him to cover for me. I didn’t tell him anything else, I just said that I would explain everything eventually.
When I look down at my phone, I’m not surprised to see his name on the screen.
I sigh, answering his call and putting it on speaker.
“Hey.”
“What the fuck is going on?” Reign asks. “Jesus, Killian. You take off like that and don’t even call?”
“Relax,” I snap. “I said I’ll explain.”
“Start fucking explaining then,” Reign retorts, and I hear Maddox laugh in the background.
“Why the hell am I on speaker?”
“It’s just me and Mad,” Reign replies.
I know my relationship with Maddox hasn’t always been the best, but I do trust him with this. At the end of the day, we’re brothers. Maddox would never betray me for Angelo, and I know that he’ll have my back regarding this entire situation.
“Hey, Killa,” Maddox says. “You okay?”
I let out another sigh.
“I’m sorry I took off like that,” I say carefully.
I push the covers back and stand up, getting out of bed. Then I quickly lean down and kiss Mia’s forehead before I leave the room, quietly closing the door behind me.
“I didn’t have a choice,” I go on now. “What did you tell mom and dad?”
“Calista told them that Mia got her period,” Reign replies. “No one asked questions after that.”
“Good.”
“I’m still waiting.”
“I know,” I snap, growing irritated. Reign’s so fucking impatient sometimes. “I’m trying to figure out how to best explain this. It’s complicated.”
“Let him think,” I hear Maddox say to Reign, and I’m surprised at how grateful I am for him in that moment.
I start again.
“Mia’s been running from someone,” I say slowly. “You don’t need to know all the details, but she was afraid. I found out last night that that person was Angelo.”
“What?” I hear the confusion in Reign’s voice, and I go on.
“I knew someone was after Mia, I just didn’t know who. Not at first. We didn’t talk about that. And Mia had no idea that me and Angelo were related, because Ang kept that from her.”
“Wait, so Angelo’s been bothering Mia?” Maddox asks.
“Yes. ‘Bothering’ is one way to put it. More like, he’s been making her life hell for a year.”
“Jesus Christ,” Reign mutters. “You think Angelo knows she’s your girl?”
“How could he not?” I reply. “The whole family knows.”
“What the fuck is he playing at, though?” Reign asks. “Why is he targeting her?”
“He’s obsessed with her,” I say. “She was promised to Gus before he died.”
“He must’ve hated that,” Maddox says, and I nod in agreement, even though he can’t see me.
“I’m sure he did. You know I always thought he had a hand in Gus’s death.”
“Okay, so he’s been obsessed with Mia and now…what?” It’s Reign that asks that.
“I think he wants her back,” I admit, rage swirling around inside of me. “It’s why we took off. She saw him and had a panic attack. He fucking tattooed her, put ‘Property of A’ on her ribs.”
“He’s a sick fuck,” Reign says angrily.
“What do you want to do?” Maddox asks.
“I’m not sure yet,” I admit. “I’m somewhere safe, though. I’ll keep you both updated. Don’t tell mom and dad anything yet. Dad was going on that business trip today, right?”
“Yeah,” Reign replies. “He won’t be back until Wednesday.”
“That gives me a few days to figure things out. Mom won’t even notice I’m gone.”
“You want us to do any sleuthing?” Maddox asks. “I didn’t really talk to Ang last night, but I heard Ilaria say Angelo was seeing someone.”
Ilaria is Angelo’s mom.
I pause, thinking about this. Then I ask, “You think it’s Farrah?”
“Could be,” Maddox replies, and I sigh.
“Just be careful,” I tell him. “I don’t want him to catch onto you.”
“I’ve got it.”
“Alright,” I reply. “I’ll keep you guys posted.”
I end the call, my mind whirring.
I have a few days at least to figure something out. That makes me feel better. But I can’t stop thinking about the fact that I want to kill Angelo. I need to take him out. He’s never going to leave Mia alone while he’s still alive.
It would be ideal if I could kill him within the next couple of days, and then we can go back to Rosebrook Falls and live normally, but that’s almost impossible.
I need to be smart about how I take him out; I know that.
I need to talk to Asher and the rest of the guys. I’ll call them soon.
First, I want to go lay back down with my girl and enjoy the fact that she’s forgiven me and still wants me, despite all the bullshit I put her through.
I make my way back to our room, and when I open the door, I see her hand freeze under the blanket.
“What are you doing, Kitten?” I ask her teasingly as I climb back into the bed. “I really hope you’re not playing with what’s mine without me.”
I throw the blankets off her and grab her hand and she shrieks.
“I was horny,” she says, pouting. “I didn’t know how long you’d be.”
“Such a bad girl,” I say, grinning. “I think you deserve a punishment.”
Her eyes light up at that, and I laugh.
“You’re such a masochist,” I tell her. “You’re excited, aren’t you?”
“Maybe I did it on purpose because I wanted a punishment,” she replies, smirking.
“You’ll regret that, Kitten,” I tell her.
“Doubtful,” she retorts, and I laugh again.
“Such a brat. We’re going to play another game.”
“We are?”
I nod. “We’re not going to see how many times you can come, though. This time, I’m going to see how many times I can edge you before you cry and beg.”
She bites her lip and lets out a soft moan.
“You like that, Kitten?” I ask her. I lean down, bringing my lips to hers.
“Yes,” she murmurs as she kisses me back.
“I’ll ask you again in an hour,” I say with a grin, and her eyes widen in disbelief.
“An hour?” she shakes her head. “Killian-"
“Don’t make me up it, pretty girl,” I warn her. “I didn’t say that I’d give in once you started crying and begging. Just that I want to see how long it takes. I can hold out for a very long time; you should know that.”
She whimpers, squeezing her thighs together.
“Please,” she begs, and I chuckle.
“We haven’t even started yet. This is going to be fun.”
Then I crawl in between her legs, bringing my mouth to her pussy. Mia’s words die in her throat, and I grin to myself.
I’ll worry about everything else in a little bit.
Right now, I’m going to enjoy my breakfast.
