Chapter 28
ARGENT
* 3 MONTHS LATER *
“What if she says no?”
“Would you just calm down, man? Jesus. She’s not going to say no.” There are a few moments in a man’s life that get you stressed out enough to make you pass out and this is one of them.
Asking the love of your life to marry you and fearing they might say no.
Demitri raises an eyebrow and asks, “By the way, when are you going to ask Starlet to marry you?” I chuckle nervously, the sound barely escaping my lips .
“She’s finishing her degree, and I don’t want to add any more pressure. But believe me, there’s nothing I want more than to give her my last name.” It’s true. I can’t wait to marry that girl. But she wants a career and I’m not going to stand in the way of that.
I give Demitri a friendly pat on the shoulder, urging him, “Now, grow a pair and get out there and be the man Chloe needs you to be.” Together, we exit the bathroom and make our way back to the table.
As we approach, Starlet spins around, her radiant smile captivating me in an instant. It’s as if time slows down, and I can feel my knees weakening.
Pulling out her chair, I take a seat beside her. Around the table, Chloe and Demitri are already seated, accompanied by Adrian and a girl he recently met.
“You look irresistible, Mr. Pierce,” Starlet whispers seductively in my ear. A shiver runs down my spine, and goosebumps rise on my skin. I turn my head slightly, locking eyes with her hazel gaze.
“Careful, little star,” I reply, my voice filled with desire. “I might just throw you over my shoulder, take you to the bathroom and rip that tight dress off your body and fuck you senseless until you can’t walk straight.”
Her eyes widen, her cheeks flushing crimson before she coyly looks away.
Demitri captures our attention by tapping on a champagne glass, the sound echoing through the room. “Excuse me everyone, but your attention, please?” Beads of sweat glisten on his forehead, his face flushed with a range of emotions as he turns towards Chloe.
The room falls into complete silence, anticipation hanging in the air. Slowly, Demitri lowers himself onto one knee, and Chloe’s gasp fills the room.
Starlet grabs my hand, her excitement evident as her eyes remain fixed on Chloe and Demitri, a radiant smile illuminating her face.
A smile pulls at my lips as I imagine the day that I will put a ring on her finger and forever claim her as mine.
Soon, little star. Soon.
We all raise a glass of champagne in celebration, but before we clink our glasses together, I pull Demitri aside .
“Um, listen. I want you to know you’re like a brother to me and I will do anything for you. So, here’s a little engagement present from me.”
Confusion creases Demitri’s brow as he frowns at my words, but he accepts the envelope I hand him. Slowly, he tears it open, his eyes scanning over the page.
Suddenly, his eyes widen in surprise. “You’re making me your partner?” I chuckle and shake my head. “No, you’ve always been my partner. You’ve always been the third silent partner. But now, I want you to join full-time. What do you say?”
He takes a few moments, his gaze lingering on the paper before he grabs me by the neck and pulls me into a tight embrace. “Of course, brother.”
We turn our attention back to the girls, both of them looking at us expectantly with radiant smiles gracing their faces.
“Did you ever think, that two screw-ups like us, would have a chance at a normal life?” I ask Demitri, still keeping my eyes locked on Starlet.
He shifts his gaze to me, a sly smirk forming, “Normal? We'll never have a 'normal' life. We just found the perfect two people that match our craziness.” Chuckling, I swing my arm around Demitri's shoulder and clink my glass with his. “Cheers, brother.”
This is exactly what I had envisioned for my life when I first met her—had some unexpected obstacles along the way. But we made it.
We fucking made it, and I would go through it all over again if it meant I could have her.
The end… for now.
