Chapter 32
CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
LYLA
T he sun warms my skin, and I take a deep breath of the salty sea air as I lie on the lounger by the pool. It’s been a little over a month since the car wreck, and my body has healed nicely.
Jake has barely left my side, and when I finally did convince him to take some of his appointments, it has been a revolving door here between his brothers and sister-laws watching over me when he couldn’t.
I gave up arguing with him that I would be fine by myself for a couple of hours and just let the stubborn man have his way. Lord knows I’ve tried every which way to break the rules with him in bed without any success, but he’s adamant about sticking to the doctor's orders and waiting for the all-clear.
I glance down at my little white bikini and grin. My skin glows from the suntan oil and the nice tan I’ve gotten from all the lounging around I’ve been doing while recovering. Operation get my man to have sex with me is in full effect.
Travis and his family arrived for the summer last week, along with his sister Savi.
We caught her up with everything once we got home from the hospital, and she flew down as soon as her last exam was over to get in line with the rest of his family to fuss over me. I’ve gotten quite close with the girls, which is why I’m alone today, waiting for Jake to get home from his afternoon appointment. They made sure to clear the house by taking all the kids to the waterpark so we could have some time alone before his parents arrived tonight.
I hear the sliding glass door open, and all the air around me changes as his energy seeks me out and weaves its way into my body.
I texted him earlier to meet me by the pool when he got home, and I see he’s already changed into his black swim trunks. My eyes lap up the sight of him behind my sunglasses as he walks over, his muscular chest on display as the sun shines down on him like some tatted god from the heavens. I instantly crave what I’ve been wanting for the past six weeks.
He stops when he sees my swimsuit. Sophia insisted I wear it or at least wear what little there is of it. The triangle top barely covers the front of my breasts as I spill out around the little fabric. The bottoms cover the bare minimum in the front, and nothing holds it up other than tiny white strings. It’s the smallest bikini I’ve ever worn, and by the look in his eyes, I’m very glad I chose it.
“Jesus,” he mumbles, tearing his eyes from me and looking around. “Where is everyone? Are you here alone?” His eyes narrow, and I just grin at him.
“Relax Dr . Montgomery. As you can see, I’m perfectly fine being by myself.” I finger the string on my bikini top, and he swallows hard. “Everyone took the kids to the waterpark, and I told them to go enjoy themselves.” I grab the sunscreen oil and hold it out to him. “Do you mind getting my back? I wouldn’t want to burn.” He eyes me warily as I try to look innocent.
“Sure,” he says slowly. I lie on my stomach and hear him curse under his breath. I hold my grin back as I lay my cheek on the towel, my ass on full display for him.
He sits on the side of the lounger with me, and I feel the warm oil hit my skin seconds later. His hands roam over me, and I moan as he presses further into my back with a massage.
“Feel good?” His voice is a little breathless, and I can tell he’s struggling to hang on.
“So good,” I sigh. His hands go lower and run up both legs before gliding over my ass. His fingers dig into my cheeks, and I’m practically purring like a kitten.
“My turn,” I say, getting up, eager to get my hands on him. “Lie down for me.”
“You’ll have to do my chest because there’s no way I’m able to lie facing down right now unless I want to bust right through the chair.”
He lies down, and I bite my lip to stop the laughter when I see the huge tent in his lap. He glares at me before throwing his arm over his eyes. “You’re insufferable, Lyla,” he softly growls. “And the worst patient to obey my rules.”
Giggling, I straddle his front instead of sitting to the side like he so carefully did to avoid the temptation. His body tenses as I sit right where I want him.
“What are you doing?” His voice is strained as I squirt the oil into my palm. He still won’t look at me as he stays hidden behind his arm.
“Making sure you don’t burn,” I purr, rubbing my hands along his pecks. His muscles flex under my palms, and his body becomes tight like a wire. When my hands go lower down his hard abs, and my body starts to move against him, his hands shoot out to grip my hips, keeping me locked in place.
“Lyla, I promised Dr. Martin that I would follow his strict orders and take care of you. That means no physical activities until he gives the all-clear, which isn’t for another few days when we see him for your appointment.”
“And unfortunately, you’ve been very good about following his orders despite my best efforts this past couple of weeks.”
“You haven’t made it easy, that’s for sure,” he scowls. “Dr. Martin would be very disappointed in his favorite patient if he knew what a little minx you’ve been.”
“Jack loves me.”
I’ve grown really close to my doctor since the accident. He’s become like an adoring grandfather to me. He never had kids, and his wife passed away a couple of years ago. I think he’s lonely, and I fill that void somehow as a daughter or granddaughter he never had.
“Well, Jack doesn’t know that his sweet, innocent friend is sitting almost completely naked except for a tiny scrap of fabric on top of my dick, which feels like a deadly weapon right now because of how badly it wants to explode in this tempting little pussy that's pressed against me right now.”
I bite the inside of my cheek to stop my grin, and his eyes narrow further at me.
“I guess it’s a good thing then that I talked to Jack this morning on FaceTime, and he gave me the all-clear early. He said I must have been taken really good care of, thanks to you, and he doesn’t see any reason why I can’t resume my normal activities.”
“You could have led with that, you little tease,” he growls. “He really gave you the all-clear? I swear you better not be lying to me, little hummingbird, to get what you want.” He peers at me under his full dark lashes, searching for anything that would indicate this is a setup.
“I promise,” I laugh. “Best friends don’t break promises…remember?”
I brush his hair back tenderly. God, the way I love this man should be illegal. He’s weaved his way into a part of me that I forever thought would remain dark and cold. He’s shined a light on all the ugly things that have ever happened to me and turned them into something beautiful we’ve created together. By loving me, he gave me a safe place to find and love myself again…to love life again.
“I remember,” he whispers, putting his hand on the back of my neck and pulling me down to his lips. I welcome him in as his tongue explores mine. Every kiss he gives me, every touch of his hands, feels like a thousand I love you’s as the deep, warm feeling of love surrounds me.
“Take me to bed, Jake. I need to feel you again,” I breathe against his lips.
“You have no idea how much I’ve missed being inside you,” his voice filled with a desperate yearning.
He sits up, taking me with him as he carries me inside. My legs wrap around him as I kiss his neck and breathe him in deeply. When I suck hard on his neck, his moan vibrates against my chest.
Without letting me go, he unties the strings of my bikini and pushes the fabric to the floor, leaving a trail of clothes behind us as we walk to the bedroom. His swim trunks go next as he steps out of them, never losing his hold on me.
We talked for endless hours after the accident, and it took time for both of us to get out of the fear of losing one another. More than once, we would wake up from a nightmare, gasping for air and clinging to each other. Always the same dream of what could have been, and taking what we loved most in this world…each other.
Eventually, the nightmares stopped, and the fear of loss became a speck in the distance. We made a promise to one another to live each moment we have together like a treasured gift for as long as we were given it .
Lying me down gently, he places kisses on my body, leaving no spot untouched. His lips touch the scar on my abdomen as he lovingly kisses the healing red line. My body is humming and nearing desperation by the time his lips find mine again.
“If anything hurts, you tell me so I know to stop,” he says quietly. I feel him at my entrance and hungrily lift my hips to inch him in more. “I need you to promise me, Lyla,” he holds back from going in further.
Always the protector.
“I promise, just please give me all of you,” I whimper, trying to nudge him in further where my body wants him to be.
“You will always have all of me,” he moans, filling me completely. “God, I’ve missed this,” he breathes, moving against me and molding us together like we were always meant to be.
My body takes him like it’s getting its first drink of water after spending days in the desert.
“Jake…” His name leaves my lips as a sigh or a plea, the line so easily blurred with sensations he’s sparking in me.
“I’m right there with you.” Our bodies move in sync, and with each slow thrust, he brings me closer to the edge.
My legs wrap around him tighter as I lift my hips to meet him. “Don’t strain,” he grabs a pillow and pushes it under my back, lifting my hips in the air.
“I’m fine…”
“Don’t argue with me,” he says, cutting me off. “Let me take care of you.” He fills me again, and the pleasure at this angle silences any words I was going to say. “Feel good?” I can feel him grin against my neck as he dives back into me.
“Don’t stop,” I moan when he fills me again, hitting me in all the right spots.
“Never,” he says without hesitation. He pushes into me deeper and leans close to my ear. I feel his breath warm my skin, and my body eagerly anticipates his next words .
“Soak me, little hummingbird,” he whispers.
Fireworks explode, sending my body falling into a spiral of complete bliss and euphoria.
A deep moan escapes his lips as he pours inside me while my walls squeeze him tight with each pulse of my orgasm.
Keeping his full weight off of me, he holds me tight against him as our breathing returns to normal.
“You may be dripping for days with that one. I’m pretty sure I just did a world record for the most cum ever shot into someone. It’s been a very, very long six weeks.”
“I don’t think that’s a category,” I giggle.
“It is now, and I’m the record holder,” he grins down at me as I laugh.
“Well, I’m honored that I had a part in your record-making.”
“Babe, you’re the whole part,” he says, silencing my laugh with a kiss.
“Are you sure this isn’t too much? It's just a tattoo.” I glance again in the full-length mirror as Sophia and Savi sit on the bed, drinking a glass of wine.
The dark green dress hugs my curves as my long legs end in gold heels. I touch the hummingbird necklace sitting just above my breasts as I turn to look at my backside. The fabric molds to my body like it was made for it.
“ Just a tattoo?” Sophia laughs. “Trust me, when a tattoo artist marks their girl for the first time, especially if they have virgin skin, it’s anything but just a tattoo . I still remember every detail about mine, and the second.” She touches the side, under her breast where the coordinates of their special place in the park lie. “Trust me, the dress is perfect,” she grins.
“I’m blocking out the fact that it’s my brothers you two are talking about.” Sophia and I laugh at the cute, disgusted face that Savi is jokingly making.
“But, I agree with Sophia. The dress looks great on you. He will have to put his talent to the test because he’s going to have to concentrate real hard to stay focused on his art and not you,” she chuckles. “I’m all for making my brothers squirm and work for it,” she grins.
I look back in the mirror, and excitement starts to build. I’ve always wanted a tattoo, and knowing it’s Jake who gets to be the one to do it has me grinning at my reflection. Yeah, this dress is going to be perfect.
“There’s the strong, confident, sexy girl we love,” Sophia grins. “You look beautiful, Lyla.”
“You look absolutely gorgeous,” Savi agrees. “I’m really happy you and Jake found each other,” she says softly.
“Me too. He’s the best thing to ever come into my life,” I smile, feeling his love around me, even though he’s miles down the road.
“He would say the same,” Savi smiles.
“Do you know what tattoo you are getting?” Sophia asks.
“No. I know part of what I want, but I’m letting him design the rest. He told me he’s been working on one for a while now.”
“Travis designed mine, too,” she nods. “He knew exactly what I wanted even though I had no clue myself. Jake will, too. Those guys are as talented as they come, and he’ll know exactly what you need.”
“Let’s get you going,” Savi says, getting off the bed and grabbing my hand. “I’ll drive you so you guys can ride home together.”
“Thank you. I didn’t even think of that.”
“That's what sisters are for,” she grins at me, and her words hit me straight in the heart. I’ve never had best friends, let alone sisters. We’re not even engaged, yet his whole family has welcomed me with open arms because of Jake’s love for me.
I blink back the tears, and they both squeeze my hands. “You’re stuck with our crazy family for better or worse.” Sophia tilts her head briefly against mine and smiles.
We walk out into the kitchen, and I laugh as Miles whistles. “Damn, Lyla. I’m in the wrong business if girls show up like that for tattoos.”
Travis grins wider when he looks up and sees me. “This is your first time getting a tattoo, right?”
“Yes.” I see the amusement in his eyes and furrow my brows in confusion.
“Poor Jake,” he laughs. “He’s in for a long couple of hours.”
“What do you mean?” I ask, clearly not getting the joke.
“I just remember how I felt when I gave Sophia her first. It takes inking to a whole new level when marking the girl you love with your work. Especially if she has virgin skin.” He winks at Sophia as she wraps her arms around his waist. “There’s nothing sexier than a girl walking around with a symbol of the guy she belongs to.”
“Or a guy walking around with a symbol of the girl he belongs to,” Sophia places her hand over his heart and grins up at him.
“You got the spot, wildcat,” he kisses the side of her neck and smiles. “It was always yours.”
“The spot?”
“It was a thing we decided to do before we got our first tattoos,” Miles shrugs. “We would leave a spot by our hearts open for the girl it would belong to. Travis has one for Sophia, and Ryder does for Eve.” He lifts his shirt, showcasing all the ink across his chest, and points to the area by his heart, free of any black lines.
I picture Jake’s chest and realize that there is bare skin in that area. I just assumed it was part of a design and meant to be that way.
“I have to admit, that’s the most sweetest and sexiest thing you guys have ever come up with. I hope the guy I meet isn’t afraid of needles,” Savi says to her brothers.
“If he’s afraid of needles, there’s no chance he’ll get past your brothers,” Sophia laughs. “It’s going to take a strong guy to get past the barrier.”
“Damn right, it will,” Miles scowls. “He has to prove he’s worthy, or he won’t be stepping a foot into our house.”
“Back off, guard dog.” Savi rolls her eyes and takes a sip of wine. “It doesn’t matter anyway. No one has even come close to waking my kitty up. I’ll probably die alone surrounded by a ton of animals to keep me company.”
“Your kitty?” Sophia and I look at each other before busting out laughing.
“God, Savi,” Travis groans and rubs his hand roughly down his face.
“Well, I, for one, am glad your kitty isn’t getting woken up. Keep it that way.” Miles gives her a stern look.
“Well, we should be going now. I don’t want to be late for my appointment,” I say quickly, grabbing Savi’s hand when her eyes narrow at Miles. “Your kitty will wake up with the right guy.” I usher her to the door before her claws come out on her brother.
“They are so protective and bossy at times. I want to knock them upside the head most days,” she mutters, following me to her car.
“They just love you and don’t want to see you get hurt.” I open the door and slide into the passenger seat.
“Yeah, well, I’m not a kid anymore. I’m an adult and can make my own decisions even if they don’t agree with them.” She fastens her seatbelt, and we drive toward town .
“And I agree with you, but take it from someone who went their whole life up until now not having a single person give a shit about her. Your brothers may be overbearing at times and get on your nerves, but it’s a reminder that you have people in your life who care.”
“Geez, way to rip away my plans for seeking revenge on him tonight while he sleeps,” she chuckles. “Miles just got saved by you.”
“I’ll remind him to thank me,” I laugh.
Savi pulls up to Inked, and the door already has a closed sign on it. He told me he set up an appointment when the rest of the crew was done for the night so that we could have our privacy. Butterflies begin to flutter as I put a hand to my stomach.
“Thanks for the ride.” I tear my eyes away from the display window to smile at her.
“It’s no problem. I can’t wait to see what you get.” She hugs me quickly before I step out. I smooth out my dress and glance back at the car.
“Do you think I’ll take Jake’s spot?” I ask softly through the window.
It’s probably just the nerves talking from getting my first tattoo. I know we love each other and have talked about a future, but there’s a finality to being permanently etched on someone's skin.
Savi’s blue eyes get warm as she looks at me. “I think you took that spot the day he met you at the wedding,” she smiles. “Now go make my brother drop to his knees at the sight of you.” She grins and winks at me before driving away.
I walk to the door and take a deep breath as I pull it open.
Tonight, Jake will be permanently on my skin, just like he already is on my heart.
