Chapter 59 #2
He rolled his eyes. “Look, I just think that it was the thing that healed his mind. His body had basically healed itself already, and he didn’t get his memories back. Colton has an incredible recovery rate, though. I think Marcus drinking that so much could have helped him heal.”
“I think you’re crazy.” Colton shook his head. “We only let it go because...”
I slowly turned my head to him, raising my eyebrow at him. “Please, go on, mate. Tell me why you let it go on.”
Mom snorted, and Dad turned back to the meat he was cutting. Even Laila turned away, humming. Colton growled at them, realizing that he was all alone. I stood there, taking another sip from the glass. His lips pressed together, fighting a smile.
“Colt.” My voice dropped low.
“You had…gained a bit of weight. Ebony apparently preferred you a little more filled out, and it was showing. You were really sensitive about it. Beau brought it up every chance she could get.”
My eyes narrowed. “I still am. Though I am wondering what that has to do with your little prank.”
“Um…well, you were drinking out of it, thinking it was one of your mom’s oat or almond milk.”
“Sure.”
Colton cleared his throat, still forcing himself not to laugh. “We just didn’t correct you. You got addicted to it, really. You’d have a lot of it every day and I kept filling it up.”
“So it was just that I was drinking your breast milk without knowing it?”
Laila let out a snort.
“No. They were trying to make you gain more weight. Breast milk has more fat in it. Since you were home, you were eating Candy’s cooking. So they thought it would be funny to have you keep gaining more weight.”
My eyebrow rose as I looked back at Colton. His face was red, and he wasn’t looking at me. Walking up to him, I placed my glass on the island and lifted his chin to look at me.
“Is that true? You were trying to make me gain weight?”
Slowly, my sweet little wolf nodded. My jaw tightened and narrowed my eyes at him. His chest rose and fell, waiting for me to say something.
“Did you check your weight today, Colt?”
His face went from red to white in an instant. “I…no…not yet.” He was lying and glared at him. “Yes.”
“And?”
“One-eighteen.”
Sighing, I ran my hands through my hair. “You went down a pound.”
“I went running yesterday before soaking in the hot springs.”
Laila leaned forward, looking at me with her eyebrows raised. “Have you gotten on the scale recently?”
“No. I haven’t and I’m not doing it in front of all of you. Thank you very much.”
Everyone chuckled, and I reached down, kissing Colton on the head.
I needed to figure something out for him.
I knew breastfeeding was doing a lot to burn calories, but he just wasn’t eating enough to replace what he was losing.
His lack of an appetite was the biggest struggle we were having, and I didn’t want to force him to over-eat every single time we sat down for a meal.
On top of that, he was still drinking the supplemental drinks from Eva.
“Oh, Colt! Since I have you and Marcus here, I need to know what to do next.”
“About?” I asked, standing behind Colton and rubbing his back while I finished my glass.
Dad rinsed his knife off and turned around, wiping his hands on the tea towel Mom hung from the oven door. “We need to figure out what to do about Dylan Genesis and Ebony Blackfell.”
“Didn’t you just submit a request a few days ago?” Peter stepped into the kitchen, but I was surprised to see him holding Kayla, who looked ready to squirm right out of his arms.
“I did, but they already sent the rejection. At this point, we might as well just say fuck the Council and wipe out both packs ourselves. Deal with the fallout afterward. I don’t think we will ever actually get permission.
The Blackfell’s and Genesis have their hands down the Council’s pants, and we aren’t going to get anything passed. ”
Mom raised her eyebrow at him, but she knew how frustrated he was.
I’d provided my testimony and more than enough evidence that there was something wrong.
Mike gave the camera footage from the house, and it should have been an easy win for us.
Instead, they dismissed it, giving every excuse under the sun.
Colton snorted, leaning back against me and crossing his arms over his chest. “Too bad we couldn’t just bribe them back. Be petty and play their game just to get this over with.”
Everyone turned to Colton. I blinked, thinking back to when the Council rejected our declaration of war and even the simple request for a restraining order. We were playing by the book, but why? Why were we when it mattered more getting everything done?
“I mean, we could.” Mom chuckled. “It’s been a while since we bribed anyone. We could go through the charity.”
“Use the family funds and not the packs.” Dad added.
Colton straightened, placing his hands on the table. “I didn’t mean we should do it!”
“It’s not a terrible idea, Colt. It sucks morally, but if it works, it works. It means that we don’t need to worry about anyone else getting hurt or you being taken from Marcus again.” Laila rubbed his arm.
The horrified look on his face made me chuckle. I leaned down, kissing the side of his head.
“They are being protected by what they are offering the Council. This makes it better for everyone that we go about this through the Council first. Otherwise, we might find ourselves on the run if we outright attack them.”
“Yeah, but…but…”
Looking at my parents and Peter already talking logistics, I smiled. “It’s too late. Nothing’s going to stop them now.”
Colton frowned. “What is going to happen with Keith and Queen?”
