Chapter 22

TWENTY-TWO

Sable

Cuddled on an oversized lounge chair in front of a roaring firepit overlooking the ocean as the sun set couldn’t have been a more perfect way to end the day.

The safety of being in Milo’s arms brought me comfort, but being in Puerto Rico came with its own set of problems. This wasn’t a vacation. Milo came here because there was trouble. What did that mean for us?

“I really like Lissia.” I traced the tattoos that spread along Milo’s neck. “I’ve never met anyone like her.”

“She’s one of a kind.”

I gazed up at the stars. “She’s upset with you because you didn’t bring Ricardo to visit her.”

“This is an in-and-out trip.” He twirled my hair around his finger. “She and Chello are supposed to be in hiding. This isn’t a party.”

“It feels like a party.” I snuggled closer to him. “The pool, the amazing dinner, being here by the ocean with you. I’ve never done anything like this before.”

“I’m glad you came with me.”

“Seeing your brother makes you happy,” I said. “I know it’s difficult not being with your family.”

“This has been a strange time for us. We’re used to doing things together.

Seeing one another every day. Checking in.

” His chest muscles tensed. “I’m not the type of person who wishes.

I’m more of an action guy, but if I could ask for one thing, it would be to have my father and brother standing by my side. ”

“Will it happen soon?”

“Our enemies are making it difficult, but we’re stronger.”

“I’ll wish for you, on all of these stars, that your father and brother can come home with you soon.” I kissed his jaw.

“That’s sweet of you.” He sat up, swinging his legs over the side. “What else would you wish for?”

“A few months ago, I would have wished for so many things.” I scooted over and sat next to him. “Food, rent, heat, a job, for my brother to get it together.”

“That’s a reasonable list.”

“You made it so I don’t have to wish for any of that.”

“Let’s talk about what you would wish for tonight.” He took my hand and brushed my knuckles along his lips. “What you mentioned were necessities. What can I give you?”

“You’ve already given me so much.” The light mist from the ocean sprayed my face. “I don’t need anything else.”

“I do.” He kissed the inside of my wrist, sailing his lips along my arm until he reached my shoulder. “I want to give you the world. ”

“You already have.”

He circled his lips across my collarbone as he swept my hair to the side and kissed my neck. “I have something for you.”

“I can guess what it is.” I smirked as I ran my hand down his chest.

“I always have that for you.” He reached into his shorts pocket and took out a light blue box. A box like the ones in the windows of stores on Fifth Avenue. Those expensive stores that I never dared go inside. “This is for you.”

“What is it?”

“Open it.” He handed me the box.

A burst of excitement fluttered in my stomach when I took the box from him. My hands trembled in anticipation as I lifted the lid. When I saw the delicate diamond bracelet, my mouth dropped open.

“Milo.” The silver band sparkled against the glow of the firepit. “What is this for?”

“Does there have to be a reason?” He plucked the bracelet from the box and clasped it on my wrist. “You don’t wear jewelry, so I wasn’t sure if you didn’t like it.”

“Who doesn’t like jewelry?” Other than the cheap stuff I picked up here and there when I was younger, I had never really owned much of it. “This is too much.”

I didn’t know jewelry prices, but I could guess that this particular piece cost a fortune.

“No, it isn’t.” He ran his finger along the big diamonds that were embedded in the band of the bracelet. “Promise me you’ll never take it off.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it.”

“It’ll be like I’m with you wherever you are.”

“It’s so beautiful. ”

“You know what they say about beautiful girls.” He caressed my thigh. “They deserve beautiful things.”

“When I asked for your help, I never expected us to get so close.” I traced my finger along his bottom lip. “I never expected us.”

“I find the best circumstances are unexpected.” He slid his hand under my dress as he brushed his mouth along mine. “Making you mine was one of the smartest choices I’ve ever made.”

Kissing me slow and deep, he slipped his fingers under the elastic on the sides of my panties and tugged them down my hips. They dangled around my ankles before hitting the sand along with my flip-flops, giving him free reign to drive his fingers inside of me.

As he trailed his mouth down my jaw and to my neck, I spread my legs open and rocked into his hand. He nudged the straps of my dress off my shoulders, exposing my bare breasts to him.

I froze, looking around at the deserted beach and hoping no one could see us in the distance.

“Should we do this here?” I asked. “What if someone sees us?”

“Whenever I want, wherever I want, remember?” He lowered his lips to my breasts, and I arched into his mouth as he licked and sucked my nipples. “I want you right now.”

How could I say no to that?

Gripping his shoulders, I moved in rhythm with his fingers, shivering as the cool ocean breeze grazed my heated skin. My desire grew stronger with each of his touches as the throbbing between my legs became more prominent.

I climbed into his lap and straddled his hips.

He reached behind his back and removed his gun from his waistband and set it next to him.

The fact that he carried a weapon or two everywhere he went should have alarmed me.

It did a few weeks ago, but now when we were in moments like this, it served to remind me how dangerous he really was.

I craved that side of him. There were so many women who would do anything to be in my position, but he wanted me. My obsession with him had become all-consuming; bigger than anything I had ever felt before.

He leaned back against the chair and unbuttoned his shorts as he gazed into my eyes.

“You’re stunning.” He tangled his hand in my hair and brought my lips to his. “The way your freshly tanned skin shimmers in the moonlight is incredible. I’ve never seen a more majestic beauty.”

“I’ve never been this happy.”

“I can make you happier.” He pushed his shorts and boxer briefs down, revealing his breathtaking length. He gripped my hips and lowered me onto him, easing me down until he was fully sheathed.

“Milo…” I shifted my pelvis back and forth, finding a pleasurable tempo. “This is… oh…”

“I know, Sexy Sable.” He tightened his hold on me, lifting me up and sliding me back down. The maddening motion shook through my core. “Ride my cock.”

Leaning back, I rested my hands on his thighs as I raised my hips, and then took my time feeling every inch of him on my way down. The building in my core threatened to explode, but I wanted to hold on for as long as I could.

The crash of the waves hitting the shoreline and a faint breeze moving along our skin heightened the encounter as I brought us both to the edge of pleasure. We were on the cusp of forbidden desire.

“Come here.” Milo gripped my upper arm and brought me closer to him. He ran his hands down my sides, causing me to shiver as he took my hips in his strong hold. Digging his fingers into my flesh, he moved me back and forth.

I clenched around him, slipping and sliding with each of his upward thrust. The more he propelled into me, the wetter I became. I gazed down at him and admired his beautiful jawline and perfectly sculpted cheekbones.

Swiping my lips along his, I tasted the salt from the ocean as I swirled my tongue inside his mouth. When he sucked my bottom lip into his mouth, I spiraled into a long, slow release.

“You’re so fucking hot.” He ran his hand along my backside. “I like when you come.”

“I’ll only ever come for you.”

He grabbed my hair and twisted his fingers in my curls, kissing me as he let loose. Frantically moving his pelvis, his hot lust shot deep inside me. My body tingled, craving more of him. I collapsed onto his chest, holding him tight as he continued to move inside me.

Once we caught our breaths, I rolled off him and cuddled into his side, still vibrating between my legs from his satisfying fuck. When I rested my palm on his chest, he placed his hand over mine, holding it steady against his heart.

“I love my life.” I closed my eyes and indulged in the warmth of his body. I love you.

“I can’t complain about mine.” He stroked my arm. “It’s pretty perfect.”

“Mine has never been perfect,” I said. “But when I’m with you, I can see a future that makes sense. I don’t worry like I used to.”

“You don’t ever have to worry about anything ever again.” He kissed the top of my head. “As long as you’re loyal to me, I’ll always take care of you.”

“Loyalty is important to you.”

“It’s essential.” He straightened his legs out on the lounge chair. “That’s all I know. The only thing I can trust.”

“You can trust me.”

“I do.” He held me tighter. “I’ve let you into my guarded world. I’ve never done that with any woman before.”

Is he feeling the same vibes I am? Is he trying to tell me what my heart wants so desperately to tell him?

He sat up and adjusted his pants as he scanned the beach. “We should probably head back. I want to have a meeting with Chello before we turn in for the night.”

“Okay.” I scooped my panties off the beach and shook the sand out of them. “There’s something I want to say.” I shimmied my panties up my thighs and over my hips. “Umm…I…”

Should I take this leap of faith? What if it was too soon?

The moonlight caught the diamonds in my bracelet, giving me the courage to tell him how I felt. He wouldn’t have given me such an exquisite piece of jewelry if he didn’t have deep feelings for me. Would he?

I slipped on my flip-flops and joined him in front of the firepit. He twisted his finger around the end of my hair and smiled at me.

“What did you want to tell me?” he asked.

“I don’t know if this is too fast, but when I’m with you, I just know.” I inched closer to him. “It’s different with you.”

“What’s different?”

As I gazed into his eyes, trying not to vomit, I somehow lost my nerve. Once I said the words, I wouldn’t be able to take them back. Not that I would want to take them back, but what if he didn’t reciprocate ?

My confession might ruin what we had. I could tank us before we even got started. As I tried to think of a way to recover, Milo’s attention became otherwise occupied. I followed his gaze to the brush in the dunes.

The tall grasses swayed, but I didn’t feel any wind in my hair. A shadow emerged from behind the dunes and slowly came onto the beach.

Milo reached for his gun he had left on the chair, and then swiftly moved me to stand behind him. My heart rate intensified, beating loud enough to bang between my ears, drowning out the waves in the distance.

What if his enemies had found us? Had my fear ruined my chance to tell him I loved him?
