That’s new.

You never used to sleep properly unless I was there.

Funny how your body forgets so quickly.

Or maybe it doesn’t.

Maybe you still wake up in the middle of the night, not knowing why your heart is racing.

Maybe something still feels unfinished.

You don’t get to replace what we had.

You don’t get to rewrite it into something smaller because it’s easier for you now.

I know how you breathe when you’re scared.

I know how you sound when you try to pretend you’re not.

That doesn’t go away just because I’m not there to hear it.
