Chapter 47

A New Day

Violet awoke and quickly became aware of Lachlan beside her. His breathing was deep and steady. The room was dark aside from the silvery light from the moon outside that cast a ghostly glow in his bedroom. She shivered and carefully slid out of the bed, trying not to disturb him.

Violet tiptoed to the bathroom. She was so sleepy. She made it quick. She felt chilled as she got back into the bed, and she quickly nuzzled under the covers. Strong, warm arms wrapped around her. Lachlan pulled her body in close to his. It was heaven. She felt so secure and safe in his arms. It felt so right.

She couldn't help the little seed of doubt, though. Everything felt so perfect. The night had been beyond her wildest dreams, but had anything changed? She still didn't know why Lachlan had basically ghosted her, and he hadn't given her any indication that he intended for whatever this was to be more than just a night, more than just a fling. It felt like so much more, but was it? Violet was falling desperately in love, whether she wanted to admit it or not.

Deep in thought, she felt his lips on the back of her neck, and she melted against him. God help her. She rolled over and faced him in the cool darkness of the moonlight, but she could see his eyes intense on hers as he entered her again. Lachlan’s eyes didn’t leave hers as he slowly made sweet love to her. In no time, they both climaxed before drifting off to sleep again in a tangle of limbs.

Sunlight poured into Lachlan’s bedroom. Violet opened her eyes and stretched out like a cat who’d got the cream. She was sore but satiated. The door to the bathroom clicked open, and Lachlan walked into the bedroom. He was cleanly shaven and wore slim-legged blue dress pants with a crisp white button-up shirt and tie. Mr. GQ.

“Good morning, love.” He gave her one of his devastatingly handsome crooked smiles, with his fresh aftershave scent filling her senses.

Mmm, the man was so yummy.

“Good morning.” She pulled the bedding up over her chest and scanned the room for her clothes and then recalled they were all downstairs. Memories of last night trickled through her mind and gave her a delicious shiver.

Lachlan sat on the edge of the bed and tugged the bedding back down off her breasts, dipping his head kissing one nipple and then the other. She threw her head back in a giggle.

"Do ye ken how perfect these are?" he said, gripping one in each hand and sampling both again with his mouth. "Mm, god, I dinnae want to leave.”

"Then don't," she said, tugging on his tie and pulling his mouth to hers. Violet could drown in his kiss.

“Unfortunately, I huv to go," he said, his lips still kissing her.

She reached her hand into his lap and wrapped it around the hard length of him in his dress pants.

"I think you should stay." She let her tongue sweep against his.

He pulled away, panting. "Believe me, if I could, I would. Ye stay, though." He looked at her and stroked her hair from her face. "Make yerself at home. Sally will be glad fer the company."

Violet adored Lachlan's dog, but she'd prefer him as company.

“No, no, I should go too.” She sobered.

“Ye really dinnae have to.” He tried to convince her, but it felt odd to just stay at his house.

And what was he going to do that was so important? It was Saturday. Was he working? God, why didn't she feel like she could just ask him? But there it was. Somehow, even after the epic night together, there was still some kind of barrier between them.

"I have some things I want to get done today." She smiled lightly.

“Aye, of course.” He seemed to understand that it would be odd for her to just stay at his house and wait for him. "Can I see ye later on, though?”

She nodded, mixed emotions warring in her. On the one hand, she was glad he wanted to see her again, but on the other, she could sense that something was going on that he wasn't telling her. It felt like there was so much they needed to talk about, and yet it felt like he was shutting her out somehow.

Lachlan wanted to talk with Violet, but he wanted to wait until they had time and wouldn’t feel rushed. Unfortunately, this morning wasn’t that time, despite him wishing it was.

There was so much he needed to tell her. About Orlagh. About his feelings. The truth was he was crazy about Violet, and last night just solidified it. He had so much he wanted to say. But right now, he had a quick business meeting—one he considered skipping, but it was a new buyer from the States who had agreed to squeeze this meeting into his brief jaunt in the UK, and then he was going straight to the hospital to see how his sister faired. He'd had a text this morning from Alex, saying that she seemed to stir a bit last night, and they thought she might wake today. He was afraid to hope.

It was hard to leave the lass who was still lying naked in his bed, but he had to. For now. God, he couldn’t wait to get back to her.

Violet was biting her Cupid's bow lip, looking pensive. He couldn't leave her without putting a smile back on her face.

“Ye are beautiful, lass,” he said as he kissed her lips. He held the kiss, and then he took her head in his hands and planted sweet kisses on her cheeks and eyes and chin in a fun, playful way until she giggled, that throaty, beautiful sound. That's better, he thought to himself.

She sank further into the blankets, trying to evade his excessive kisses. He wasn’t letting her get away, though. He climbed on top of her, the blankets between them.

He wrestled her, trying to kiss her everywhere. "I told ye I wanted to kiss ye everywhere, did I no’?"

Violet laughed. "I thought you had to go."

He was pulling the blanket off her as she tried to hold on to it.

"I do, " he said, kissing her bare shoulder as she playfully tried to shove him off.

They were laughing and tousling about. Finally, she pulled herself out from under him and rolled him onto his back, sitting astride him.

“Ha,” she said, triumphantly. As she leaned over him, pinning his wrists down, her long blond hair fell about her. She was a goddess.

“Guess ye got me then,” he said, realizing that she really had. There was no way he was going out the door without making love to her at least once more.

He ran his hands up her bare thighs, marveling at their silky softness. She inched down, unbuckled his belt, and opened his pants. He helped her to tug down his pants and briefs enough to free the his dick, which had taken on the identity of a steel pipe.

She lifted herself over him and straddled down on his thick shaft. How did he even consider walking out the door without doing this again? Then she rode him hard and wild, using him to get her fill, and he loved every sweet second of it. He'd happily let her use his body to pleasure herself any time she wanted.

“That's it, love. Ride me. Let me feel ye come."

He flipped Violet on her back and lifted one of her legs onto his shoulder. He pounded into her like a man possessed until she cried out, and he felt her pleasure throb around his cock, milking him until he exploded in one final thrust. He felt drunk with lust as he collapsed down on her, satiated beyond measure. He had no intention of taking her again this morning, but he couldn’t help himself. He craved her like a man craved water after walking through the desert. It was wild, unlike anything he’d ever known. Violet was the elixir of life. He opened his eyes, and in his passion-filled fog, he caught sight of the clock on the dresser.

“Bollocks, I have to go! But I want to take ye to dinner tonight. ” He gave Violet a quick peck and hastily headed to the bathroom to clean up.

Violet lay there, still feeling the ebbs of her orgasm. She'd lost track of how many she'd had in the last ten hours. That man was her undoing. He wanted to take her to dinner…like a real date? The thought excited her. Maybe this really was something more for him too.

The bathroom door crashed open, and Lachlan strode out the bedroom door, throwing her one of his panty-wetting crooked grins as he went.

“Have a great day,” Violet called.

“I’ll see ye later, love.” He zipped back to her and quickly stole one more sweet kiss before rushing out of the room.

Love , the word hung in the air. Violet rolled over and pulled the blankets tighter around herself. Taking a deep breath, she smelled his fresh cologne in the sheets. It was intoxicating. She thought about their lovemaking. It had been the most incredible night of her life. One she would always treasure, no matter what their future held.
