14. Chapter Thirteen
Chapter fourteen
A few days later
The sun's rays glint off the restaurant's glass storefront as I stand outside, hands on hips, pride swelling in my chest. This will be my haven, my palace of culinary creativity. The traffic's roar and pedestrians' chatter fade away as I envision white linens, gleaming cutlery, the sizzle of meat on the grill.
I push open the door, my pulse racing. The empty space echoes my footsteps as possibilities swirl through my mind. I trail my fingers along the bare walls, imagining cozy booths, an elegant bar. This blank canvas is mine to transform. The responsibility weighs heavy, but so does the thrill.
I'm grateful that we were able to find this space. Dimitri's business comes with a network of contacts in high places, as most discreet and exclusive sexy ventures do, and one of his most frequent clients just happened to have an empty commercial space right in the area we were looking. It's everything I'd hoped for and more, with an indoor-outdoor flow that brings the exquisite beauty of the outside in.
I stop in the middle and turn slowly, picturing the magic to come. "We'll put the kitchen there," I say, pointing. "An open concept, so diners can see the action."
My partners nod, their faces alight. "I can see it now, my queen," Dimitri rumbles. "This place will be incredible."
"With the right decor, it'll be stunning," Josef adds, squeezing my shoulder.
I lean into him, craving his strength. We have so much to do, so far to go. But together we'll create something extraordinary. I know it in the depths of my soul.
"It won't be easy," Florian says quietly, "but we'll make this work." His eyes meet mine, lit with purpose. "And I'm so excited to watch your dream come to life!"
I reach for his hand, hope and fear mingling within me. The future gleams, tantalizing, just out of reach. We have to grab it with both hands, refusing to let go.
This empire will be ours.
I take a deep breath, steadying myself. The future is unknown, especially with everything going on with Tane, but I need to stay focused on the present. There's so much work to be done before we can open these doors.
"We should start unpacking the equipment," I say decisively. "Josef, can you handle the ovens? Florian, the walk-in fridge needs assembling."
They nod, heading off to their tasks. I turn to Dimitri. "Let's unpack the dishes and smallwares. We'll need them organized for prep."
Soon the space hums with activity.
Josef curses under his breath, wrestling with an oven door.
Florian frowns at the fridge instruction manual, tools spread around him.
Dimitri and I sort through boxes, lining up gleaming stacks of plates and pots.
The work is tedious but satisfying. With each box unpacked, each piece of equipment assembled, we inch closer. This empty shell will soon hold life—the sizzle of sautéing garlic, the chatter of happy diners.
As afternoon fades into evening, weariness seeps into my bones. But I force it back. There will be plenty of time to rest when the work is done… and when Take is taken care of.
I straighten, rolling my shoulders. "How about some dinner? We could all use a break."
The men's eyes light up. Josef grabs takeout menus from his bag. "Pizza or Chinese? Some guys were handing these out on the street earlier and both look good."
Within about thirty minutes, our food arrives. An array of Chinese takeout, packed into little cardboard containers. The aroma is intoxicating, and I heap my plate high enough that the guys give me stunned looks.
We settle on the floor amidst the organized chaos, fueling up for the tasks ahead. The road is long, but we will walk it together.
I glance around at my partners as we eat, pride swelling in my chest. We've already accomplished so much today—this empty space is slowly transforming into the restaurant of my dreams.
Dimitri catches my eye and smiles softly. "How are you holding up?" he asks. "I know this is a lot to take on."
I take a deep breath. "It's overwhelming," I admit. "But also thrilling. This restaurant represents everything I've worked for."
I think of the long hours, the sacrifices, the single-minded pursuit of this goal. All the blood, sweat and tears will be worth it in the end.
"Just remember, you're not alone," Josef says, squeezing my shoulder. "We're here with you, every step of the way."
"Through thick and thin," Florian agrees. "We'll make this happen, together."
Their steadfast support fills me with renewed energy. The future gleams, bright and full of potential. With my partners beside me, I can weather any storm.
"Let's get back to it," I say, standing up decisively after taking one last bite of delicious noodles. "We've got a restaurant to build."
The men rise, determination in their eyes. As we get back to work, I know that we will triumph over any obstacle. With shared purpose and strength, we are unstoppable.
The night stretches on, but we don't stop. Piece by piece, our vision takes shape. And when the sun rises, it will illuminate the beginnings of our dream.
The hours fly by as we work to transform the empty space into a warm and welcoming restaurant. My earlier anxiety melts away as I focus on the tasks at hand—unpacking dishes, arranging tables, hanging light fixtures. The steady progress fills me with growing excitement.
As the day draws to a close, I step back to admire our work so far. The once-barren room now holds the beginnings of the cozy, elegant space I've envisioned.
"There’s a lot more to do, but it's really starting to come together," I say with a satisfied smile.
"It looks great already," Dimitri agrees. "Just imagine how it'll look on opening night, filled with happy customers."
His optimism is contagious, spurring me on. But underneath the buoyant mood, I feel time pressing down. There is still so much to do, and only a finite number of days left before opening. That’s without even considering the elephant in the room—Tane Brown, and our fragile alliance with the Brixtons and the Snakes.
I take a deep breath, steadying my nerves. "Let's keep up the momentum," I say decisively. "I want to get the kitchen set up tomorrow. At least enough to be able to train people and try out some of the dishes I’ve been conceptualizing."
The men nod, rolling up their sleeves. Their solid reliability calms me. As long as we work in sync, we can accomplish anything.
Step by step, we will make this dream a reality. The path stretches before us, both thrilling and daunting. I’m just so grateful to have these loyal, supportive men by my side.
As the last of the lights are switched off, I take one final look around before locking up for the night. A sense of deep satisfaction washes over me as I survey the space. Though still a work in progress, the beginnings of something special are emerging.
With the door secured behind me, I step out into the cool night air, the day's urgency fading away. In its place, a quiet confidence settles in my chest.
This journey won't be easy. There will be long hours, tough decisions, and unforeseen obstacles ahead. But when doubt creeps in, I need only remember this feeling right now—the thrill of watching a vision come to life. I’ve always wanted this, and to see it coming into fruition is a life’s dream .
And all three of my men share this dream as wholly as I do—not because they care about restaurants, but that they’re diligently focused on enabling me to do what brings me joy. Together, we'll celebrate each milestone, and pour our souls into creating something extraordinary. I help them with their dreams, and they do the same for me. Because—and I've only learned this since being with the three of them—that's how true partnerships are meant to work.
The restaurant awaits, my dream brimming with promise. And though the road is long, I know with absolute certainty that we'll reach our destination. For now, I allow myself to bask in the satisfaction of a day's work well done.
Tomorrow brings new challenges, but also new opportunities.
As I walk to our car, I smile softly to myself, my mind already racing with ideas. One thing is clear—with passion and perseverance, we'll turn this empty space into something truly remarkable.
Step by step, we will get there. Together.
