Chapter 11 #2
The late summer sun was warm on her back, and there was a light breeze in the air. How far away from the coast were they? It always surprised her that some of the best wines in the country were created not far from the rugged, famous beaches around the Margaret River area.
“Hi, you must be Wilt and Indigo.” A smiling brunette came down the steps toward them.
She had on beige cargoes, a black short-sleeve shirt, and had dusty boots on her feet.
If Indigo wasn’t mistaken, there was a pair of working gloves peeking out from one pocket and a pair of secateurs tucked into another.
“We are.” Wilt walked forward with his arm outstretched. “Wilt Thurston, from Power Security. This is Indigo Elara.”
“Hi, Jordan Davis.” She shook Wilt’s hand before facing Indigo.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to meet you. My daughter Emily is so excited that you’re going to be in our house.
She’s been looking you up on the internet ever since I told her you were coming.
I apologize in advance for her over-exuberance. ”
Indigo laughed. “It’s fine. I’m happy to talk to her about anything.”
“You might regret saying that.” She directed her attention to Wilt. “My son, Teddy, on the other hand, he’ll probably pester you with questions about guns. We have a couple of hunting ones, but they rarely see the light of day and are locked safely away.”
“Um, okay. I’ll try and answer anything he asks.” Wilt seemed surprised that he would be the focus of a boy’s questions.
“Come on in, Kyle is in his office doing some work, but he’ll be joining us for lunch, and when Jeffrey and Greta arrive, he’ll come with us on the walk around the property. I think we’ve got some great places picked out. We’re just so thrilled we can help you all out.”
They made their way inside, and it was just as homey and welcoming on the inside as it was on the outside.
It also looked like a home with kids. There were teen girl magazines on the hall table, as if they’d been tossed there when they’d walked inside.
As they passed the living room, there were a couple of throw blankets over the back of the couch and a gaming console on the floor with two controllers resting beside it.
“Can I get you anything to drink?” Jordan asked as they entered the large kitchen. Through the windows, the vista was beautiful, with trees as well as more rows of grapes.
“I’d love a glass of water, thanks.” Indigo sat where Jordan had indicated. Wilt took a seat beside her. “It’s absolutely stunning here. I don’t think I’d get anything done. I’d spend all my time looking out the window.”
“It’s a view that changed my life,” a deep male voice said behind her, and a second later, a tall man came into view. He went up to Jordan and slid an arm around her waist before he caught her lips in a quick kiss.
The way they acted toward each other was exactly the same as the way Greta and Jeffrey behaved—like a couple blissfully in love.
Given the industry she worked in, she’d seen many relationships blow up with someone cheating on the other. A model was tempted by a photographer. Or her partner cheated while she was on a job.
“How did that happen?” Wilt asked.
The man left his wife’s side and shook Wilt’s hand as well as hers and introduced himself as Kyle Davis.
“When I bought this place, I had no intention of doing anything with the vines. Then, thanks to fate, and a bit of interference from my assistant, I met Jordan and she showed me how to live again.” Jordan came over to him and placed her hand on his shoulder.
“She also showed me that what I thought was lost could be restored with love and care.”
“That’s a beautiful story.” And Indigo meant it. She loved hearing how people met and fell in love. All she ever heard or read about was when couples were breaking up. There were hardly ever any good love stories like Jordan and Kyle’s.
“Love has a funny way of finding you. A few of my friends have found love in unusual ways,” Wilt said.
“When it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. You can’t fight it,” Jordan said.
Indigo pondered what Jordan said and recalled how Greta and Jeffrey met. Perhaps it was all in the timing. Being in the right place at the right time, and the right person walking by.
She glanced over at Wilt, recalling their kiss.
The way he’d been there for her the night she’d received the threat.
And she could finally admit to herself—the way he filled her dreams at night.
The way their kiss on the beach had turned into more.
She’d woken up each time breathless with the sheets wrapped around her and her body yearning for his touch.
Was fate pointing her in Wilt’s direction? Or was she having wishful thoughts because of being surrounded by so much love in the last few days?
That was probably it.
She was being fanciful, because after the kiss, Wilt had done nothing to indicate he was interested in her.
Indigo sighed, and swallowed down the rest of her water.
“Am I able to walk the property?” Wilt stood, as if he wanted to get away from the atmosphere of the room.
“Sure, let me show you around.” Kyle gave Jordan a kiss on the cheek.
“I won’t be long. Text if you need anything, and I’ll come right back.” Wilt squeezed her shoulder, lingering a little longer than was polite.
“Okay.”
He waited a beat before he followed Kyle out the door.
What was that touch all about?
The man confused the heck out of her.
