It came to be that the dreadful Prince was as scheming as his mother.
Though the Shadow Girl was clever, she was not as conniving as he.
And though she was dreadful, she was not as despicable as he.
With that devilish spirit he stole for her what she could not take for herself—time, which she believed deep in her heart that she did not deserve.
But being clever, she did not accept the Prince’s gift, but learned to scheme and connive and be just as despicable.
So the girl finally learned the depths of her own darkness and loved it.
