Thirty-Ninth Sun, Fourteenth Cycle, Twelfth Age

It’s done.

The blackmist has been released.

The reapers are trapped inside Mount Mort.

The residents—good and bad—have all forgotten.

I’ve relocated to Nevarnost Tower, where I’ll remain until the time comes for me to breathe my last. When that day approaches, I’ll send word to the mainland, and another mage will adopt my role as Guardian of the Isle, ensuring the obelisk wards hold and the blackmist stays in place—forever.

This is my fate, my penance for what I and my kind have created.

The reapers.

The mist.

Death itself.

Not so long ago, this island was a haven, isolated from the rest of the world because of its volatile magic. Now, we must isolate it again, for a different, darker reason, damning all who reside here to a life of exile.

They can never learn the truth:
