45. Sometimes You Gotta Pop The Trunk

sometimes you gotta pop the trunk

Deirdre

“ Y ou’re in a good mood today,” I say, as my cousin enters the boardroom.

“It’s a special occasion. You might order your first hit today. I feel like a proud mother,” she responds, smiling as she shrugs.

Regina stuns in a black pantsuit with a lace bralette peeking from her cleavage and gold hoops. Her dark curly hair is straightened in a side part and secured in a polished low ponytail cascading down her back. Her signature red lipstick sets off the look with a pop of color.

“For a woman who slays, you slay,” I admit.

“Ahh. A double entendre. Okay, Hov ,” she says with a bright smile. “Thanks.”

She doesn’t look like she came in today to premeditate a potential murder, but neither do I.

My eyes catch on her wine stiletto nails as her handgun clunks on the mahogany conference table. She pulls out her chair and dives straight in.

“Now, let’s talk shop. It’s up to you if Dax Hale dies or goes to prison.

Both are viable options, but the latter won’t be much fun for me ,” she says, raising a brow with a smirk.

“I want you to give this some thought, because either choice will require a lot of fucking hands to clean the mess after me.”

Her phone trills, buzzing on the table, and she glances at it.

“Ah, hold on, Audrey is calling. She’s watching the kids. I’ll be right back,” she informs me, standing to tuck her gun back in her waistband.

I don’t think she needs the gun for a phone call when her bodyguard is here, but I can’t say I don’t understand.

“Tell her I said hi!” I call after her.

“I will,” she says over her shoulder as she exits the room, dashing past Mr. Price who is on her heels. I guess he’s not happy about her breaking away from her security detail.

Maybe I should’ve told her about the stalking, could’ve learned some pointers.

My thoughts are interrupted when a few texts fly in from the group chat. It couldn’t have come at a better time. I miss my girls so much, and it’s weird not being able to tell them everything that’s going on.

Skye Daddy

How are things with the new chiropractor?

Lo

OMG yes! You haven’t given us any details!

I know we’ve all been busy, but I have to know.

Skye Daddy

Exactly!

We gotta live vicariously through someone’s dick appointments.

I will share an update on the chiropractor soon. Hold me to it!

Regina’s in town and we’re in a meeting.

Skye Daddy

Don’t think we’re gonna forget either.

I actually will forget.

Lo

Reporting for duty! I’m setting a daily reminder now and sharing it with you both.

I just got the reminder. I’ll check in soon! I love you!

Skye Daddy

Love yall!

Lo

Love you, babe!

That went over better than I’d expected it to. I need more time to figure things out. I shouldn’t have mentioned him so early, just in case shit didn’t pan out the way we hoped.

Except it felt so genuine with him and no one had ever touched me like that, and I had to tell my friends. That was a night to remember and one I still think of whenever I have a hard time sleeping without him.

Regina said she may hire him, and I’d see him more often if he came into the fold. I don’t hate the thought of seeing him around, but I am not giving into him.

Though I have come close over the past few days. It’s those good night texts and the coquí frog voice messages. They’re so damn cute, and it’s not fair. What is he even doing in Puerto Rico anyway? I hope he didn’t run off because of Regina, even though I told him to.

Does he even know she’s thinking about giving him a job?

She swings the door open and strolls back in with a calm expression. “The kids are fine. She had some questions.”

“How is she?” I ask, straightening my spine in my seat as I thumb through the articles Angie sent over last night on Dax and Dara Hale.

“Good. Her and Rome’s worrisome ass are babysitting Audre & Andrea.

He wanted to cook for them, but was freaking about possible food allergies.

They don’t have any that I know of, and it’s a valid concern, but he still annoys me,” she says with a shrug as she returns her gun to its rightful spot on the table and sits opposite me.

“Why is Rome worrisome?”

“He thinks I’m a fucking criminal. The gall of that fucking guy.

Thinks he’s too good to represent the mob in court.

That goddamn high horse he’s always on,” she shares with a deep sigh.

“I don’t know what Aud sees in him. He’s got a stick up his fucking ass.

Just like her brother, Andrew,” she adds, rolling her eyes.

I chuckle. “Cidro wasn’t a normal guy for you.”

“That’s because I didn’t seek him out. He chose me, and I’m glad he did,” she says with a smile.

“Now, back to the trust fund babies. I must share that I don’t love eradicating other women, so I need confirmation that Dax acts alone or if Dara is the brains of the operation before I walk in and start spraying. ”

Spraying? Oh my God.

“Gi, you wouldn’t do that,” I gasp.

“Uh—yes the hell I would. Within reason, of course. I’d also like for your peacekeeping ass to know that a rich motherfucker like him will live good in prison.

Won’t be much different from his life now, so if you ask me, hell would be more accommodating.

The ball is in your court, though, I support whatever,” she concludes, leaning back in her chair as she stares at me expectantly.

“I’d like it to go on record that this is the first time you’ve ever said anything about violence that I’ve agreed with.”

She scoffs. “What about Alfie? Surely, you agreed with that.”

I think back to the trunk phone conversation and remember it vividly.

“You’re right. I did agree with how you handled Alfie. How is he by the way?”

“Keeping his fucking spit in his mouth. Struggles holding a hand of cards now, but other than that he’s been a good old boy. Eradication works. Sometimes you’ve gotta pop the trunk to solve a problem,” she adds.
