3. Danielle #2

Long strokes at first, deliberate, the wet sound of us filling the dark like a secret we aren’t ready to take into daylight.

The mattress complains softly. His hand finds mine and pins it above my head, fingers laced, and for three heartbeats I can almost believe the last months didn’t hollow us out.

Then he shifts the angle, driving deeper, hitting a place that makes my free hand claw at his back, and belief becomes irrelevant - there’s only the drag of his cock, the slap of skin, heat coiling again low in my belly.

I roll us without warning, using the leverage of his surprise to put him on his back.

His cock slips free for a second; I straddle him, guide him back in, and sink down with a shared groan that feels louder than it is.

From this angle I can see his face - the exhaustion, the awe, the guilt flickering under pleasure like a second pulse.

“Dani-”

“My turn.” I plant my palms on his chest and ride him in slow, grinding circles, chasing the angle that makes sparks lick up my spine. His hands clamp my hips, not directing, just holding on. “You don’t get to disappear into my body the way you disappear into your study. You stay and watch me.”

“I’m watching.” His voice is shredded. “Fuck, I’m watching. You’re - God, look at you taking me. My wife. My home.”

“Say it again.”

“My home.” He sits up halfway, mouth latching onto my breast, and the dual sensation - stretch and suck - makes my rhythm stutter. “The only place I want to be. The only place I’ve ever been honest.”

I believe him in this moment. That’s the danger. Belief is easy when he’s buried inside me and the rest of the house is asleep. Belief in daylight is the part we keep failing.

I chase my pleasure shamelessly anyway, grinding until the coil tightens, then lifting and dropping in a rhythm that makes his jaw go slack.

When I come this time it’s quieter, deeper, a wave that rolls through me from the inside out while I clamp around him and shake.

He holds me through it, whispering filth and tenderness in the same breath - beautiful, so fucking tight, that’s it, take what you need - and only when I collapse forward onto his chest does he flip us again, gentle, and drive toward his own finish with renewed urgency.

“Harder,” I demand.

“As my wife asks.” He hooks one of my knees over his elbow, opening me wider, and gives me harder - deeper, meaner, still mindful of the walls that have ears, but not mindful of my composure.

Each thrust punches a sound out of me. I bite his shoulder to stay quiet.

He groans into my neck like the quiet costs him blood.

“You feel like the only honest room in this house,” he rasps. “I walk through that door late and empty and then I’m inside you and I remember what I’m supposed to be protecting.”

“Then remember when the lights are on. Remember at breakfast. Remember when she starts talking.”

“I will. I swear on every cold corridor in this place-”

“Shut up and make me come again.”

He slips a hand between us without breaking rhythm, finds my clit, and rubs in ruthless time with his thrusts. The friction is almost too much.

The next orgasm hits sharper than the ones before - less lonely, more furious - and I clench around him so hard he swears and loses his careful tempo.

He fucks me through it in short, frantic strokes, chasing his own end like a man sprinting for a train, and when he spills it’s with my name bitten off between his teeth, hips stuttering, body going heavy and trembling over mine while warmth floods deep.

We stay locked together, breathing like we’ve run a corridor we can’t name.

He softens slowly inside me but doesn’t pull out at once. His mouth finds my temple, my cheekbone, the corner of my lips - apologies shaped like kisses, devotion shaped like the weight of his chest.

I card my fingers through his hair and feel the exhaustion in him, the same exhaustion that will carry him out of this bed before sunrise, and I hate how much I still love the simple gravity of him.

“Stay,” I whisper, not sure if I mean the rest of the night or the version of him who used to stay without being asked.

“I’m here,” he answers, already half-dreaming, mouth slack against my hair. “I’m here, Dani. I’m yours.”

For now, in the dark, I let myself believe the words are bigger than the hours we have left before morning.

In the quiet that follows, I map the familiar geography of his shoulders with my fingertips and try not to count the hours until the foundation will call him away again. Touch is still fluent between us. Everything else is a dialect we’ve stopped practicing. Tonight I pretend fluency is enough.

Afterward, he holds me close, his breath evening out against my hair.

“I love you,” he murmurs. “You know that, right?”

“I know.”

“We’ll figure this out. The thing with my mother, all of it. I just need a little more time.”

“Time for what?”

But he’s already drifting off, and I don’t have the heart to shake him awake for an answer he probably doesn’t have.

When I wake, morning light is creeping through the curtains. February dawn, pale and thin.

I reach for him before I’m fully conscious - that instinctive pull toward warmth.

My hand finds cold sheets.

On his pillow, there’s a note.

Foundation emergency. Didn’t want to wake you. I’ll try to be home for dinner. -N

I stare at it for a long moment. Then I fold it carefully and set it on the nightstand, beside all the other notes just like it.
