Chapter 27
Quin
Watching their fucking car move is making me sick. It doesn’t take an idiot to know exactly what is going on in that car. Fucking slut! Who the fuck does she think she is?
*Ding*
Cash
Hey. Where did you go?”
He doesn’t know I left right after he forced us apart.
I told him I needed to blow off some steam, and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
My hotel is just down the road from the new Badlands, so I quickly went to get my car, then drove back to the club and waited.
I knew it was only a matter of time before that fucking whore came out here with him.
Funny. When Cash said he needed a date for his date's friend, who would have guessed my luck that it was the bitch I’ve been wanting to get my hands on for months?
Quinn
Just went for a drive. I’ll be back soon.
Cash
Don’t do anything stupid.
Or at least come do it at the club.
I laugh at that last part. Oh, if he only knew the truth.
~ Six months ago ~
“Quin! I know it’s him. I’ve looked up this fucker before when everything first happened. I know his fucking face. And now the fucker is in my club. MY. CLUB!”
“Easy, Declan. Are you one hundred percent sure that it’s him?” I’m trying to calm him. He’s been going insane lately between the stress of the club, plus the fact that two of our shipments have been stolen as we’ve tried to get them past the border.
“It’s him!” he snaps.
“Okay. Okay. Well…what are you going to do?”
“I’m trying to get one of these fucking bitches to lure him into a private suite but it’s not working. He’s turned down everyone.”
“Everyone?”
He knows what I’m implying. He has one last ace up his sleeve if all else fails…but he won’t use it. If this man did kill Jocko, Declan won’t risk sending Mina in. No…Not his beautiful, broken dove. That’s what he’s called her from the moment she walked into that place. He’s obsessed.
“Are you fucking listening? What if he’s here for her?”
“All the more reason to send her in as bait and see what happens. If you believe what your father said about her past, then maybe he is finally back for her.”
Or maybe he is just back in town and wanted a good lap dance.
“I don’t know…He killed my dad just to serve as a fucking warning to stay away from him. He didn’t want to hear the truth of the past so what’s going to happen when I literally drop his past in his lap?”
I highly doubt Myles would kill her. I looked into him shortly after Jocko was murdered. He honestly doesn’t even seem the type to kill someone. But telling that to Declan is like talking to a brick wall. This man is hell bent on revenge and just wants a body to point the gun at.
“Just trust me. Have her go talk to him and offer a private dance. You know how talented she is at seduction.”
“If he hurts her…”
“I highly doubt he would risk killing a dancer in your club, Declan. Stop being so fucking paranoid. You want answers? Then do what I say!”
“Fuck you.”
“Love you too, buddy. Call me when you have some answers. I’ll be back in town next month.”
The line goes dead before he says goodbye. Jesus Christ, this guy has such a short fuse. It’s going to get him killed one of these days.
When I wake up the next morning, my head is pounding.
Declan called me bitching up a storm. His precious, broken dove was able to get Langston into a private room, but he managed to get out before she was able to restrain him.
I don’t trust her. I think she betrayed Declan, but again, that man is fucking obsessed with this bitch so there wasn’t even a chance I could convince him that she let Langston go.
*Ring* *Ring*
“Yeah?”
“You were right!”
“What?! What do you mean?”
“Mac and Tony spotted her truck at Big Rays. They think she’s with him.”
“I’m sorry man. I tried to tell you…”
“I KNOW! Okay?!”
“Where are you right now?”
“I’m heading out to Rays. If she is with him…What the fuck?”
“Declan? What’s wrong?”
“I’ll call you back. Today’s my lucky day.”
I sit on the shitty motel bed waiting for this fucker to call me back for what feels like forever.
Rodger called to give me an update on our Mexico situation, and I’m not pleased.
Another one of my shipments has gone missing.
I told him to start going through all the men at the warehouses.
Torture them…Kill them for all I care. I just want answers.
*Ring* *Ring*
“So you going to tell me why it’s your lucky day, Declan?”
“I have him…”
“Langston? How?”
“He was walking away from Rays in the fucking storm. He got in my Range Rover because I offered him a ride back to his car, which happened to be sitting right outside Badlands.”
“So has he talked?”
“No. He’s still knocked out. Mac hit him pretty hard over the head. I’ve just been sitting in my office waiting…”
“Boss!” I can hear Mac shout in the background.
The line goes silent, and I’m starting to wonder if he hung up.
“Dec?”
“That fucking traitorous bitch. She’s here!”
“Mina’s there?”
“Yeah. Mac just came to tell me she’s here and is sneaking around the club. Do you think she’s here to save him?”
“I told you last night she betrayed you.”
“I’ll call you back later…Mac. Tony. Go get her. I want her alive. I don’t give a fuck if you have to rough her up. Just don’t kill her.”
I hear his men in the background, then more silence.
~PRESENT DAY~
That was the last time I talked to Declan.
Rodger called me a few days later to tell me about Declan, Mac, and Tony.
I didn’t make it back for the memorial. I had to track down the leader of the gang near one of our warehouses.
Rodger found out they were responsible for Jocko’s death, and he said Declan’s, too, but I know that’s a lie.
The leader of the gang confessed to killing Jocko, but he died swearing he didn’t touch Declan. That was the only proof I needed. Mina and Myles killed Declan, Mac, and Tony.
And now I’ll have my revenge.
*Ring*
It’s Cash.
“What?”
“Hello to you, too.”
“I just don’t know why you’re calling me. I told you I’ll be back in a little bit.”
“What’s going on with you?”
I take a second to breathe and calm the boiling rage threatening to burst. I’m this fucking close to having my revenge.
“Nothing. Why?”
“I’ve never seen you act like that. Especially over a woman.”
To be fair, it wasn’t for her benefit. I figured if I could play knight in shining armor and save her from him, then I could get her alone and not have all the messy struggle of a standard kidnapping.
Just get her in my car alone, then one tiny prick of a needle and then she’d be out like a light.
Now…Well, things are going to get messy.
“I’m just really interested in her, Cash. Declan was obsessed with her, and I want to know why.”
I never told him what I found out. Cash never wanted to be involved in our side business.
He preferred to be the good guy. Went to business school.
Got a degree. Made a career for himself.
How fucking noble? Yet if I told him that Mina was the one responsible for Declan’s death, he wouldn’t bat an eye.
He hated his cousin and wanted to take over Badlands back when his uncle died, but everything went to Declan.
He would probably thank Myles and Mina for getting rid of a problem. He’s almost as much of a traitor in my books as she is…Almost.
Declan was like a brother to me. Even more so than Cash, honestly. Cash and I never fully saw eye to eye on most things. Declan was truly my brother.
I’m going to make Mina tell me exactly what happened that day, then I’m going to kill her and hand-deliver her body to Myles Langston.
What’s that old saying? An eye for an eye?
