Chapter 60
“ G et the door, asshole,” Carson mutters as someone bangs on it.
“You get it.” I crack open my eyes but roll over and punch my pillow, instead of punching him. I’m tired. I couldn’t rest at all in that cell. “I’m sleeping.”
“No way.” He flips on the light between the two beds.
I groan. “Dude,” I protest and roll to face him. “Cut the light.”
“Trust me, Jacks.” He glances up from his phone. “You need to be the one to answer the door.”
“Oh, all right.” I throw the covers back and put my feet on the carpet. “If you know who it is, why don’t you just tell me?”
“’Cause I wanna see your face.” He gestures. “Go on, hurry, open it.”
Now I’m fucking curious, but I take my time dragging my feet to torture him. I pause when I get there and glance through the peephole. Seeing who it is, I’m instantly alert. I toss the safety latch to the side, unlock, and open the door.
“Peace,” I breathe in surprise and awe because fuck, she looks pretty. She’s wearing a light pink T-shirt that says BOOKS ARE MY SPIRIT ANIMAL with jeans that accentuate her curves. Her lips parting, she doesn’t say anything as she slowly trails her gaze over me. I guess she wasn’t expecting me to answer the door in my boxers.
“Why are you here?” My voice is gruff because all the blood in my body has rushed to my cock. “Is everything okay?”
“Yes.” She licks her pink lips and yeah, my mind goes there. My cock throbs as I imagine those recently wetted lips around it. “I just wanted…needed to talk to you.”
Talk. Right. Focus, Jackson.
“Come in.” I step back.
“I was just leaving,” Carson says. Wearing jeans and a shirt, he pats me on the back as he slides by us.
“In the middle of the night?” I ask, lifting a questioning brow.
“It’s nearly morning.” He holds up his phone. “I’m just gonna find somewhere to crash. Black Cat will cover it. Don’t worry about me.”
As I stare slack-jawed at him, I realize this is some kind of setup. I almost call him back. Without him around, there’s no way I’m capable of staying on the friend side of the line with Peace.
While I freak out internally, Peace walks farther into the room. Shifting, I follow her with my eyes. Watching her sexy hips sway in those tight jeans makes my mouth go dry.
“What’s going on?” I close the door and eliminate the space between us. “How did you know where I was staying?”
“Harmony. Car texted her.” She shrugs and the movement draws my gaze to her tits. My cock thickens, the engorged crown stretching the waistband of my boxer briefs.
“I need to ask you something,” she says softly, glancing at me through her golden lashes. She looks seductive and a little shy.
“Sure. But you seem nervous.” I want her. I’m on fire for her, but I also want to care for her. “Why don’t you sit?” I lead her to my bed.
“Thanks.” She takes a seat, and I drop down beside her. Moth to her flame.
“What’s on your mind?” Mine spins with impossible ideas.
“You.” She drops her gaze. “I mean, us.” She blushes. “I mean, I wondered if you’d fuck me.”
“Fucking hell.” I exhale in a rush. Heat crackling beneath my skin, I consider sitting on my hands so I don’t take her and lay her out on the bed. “What brought this idea on?”
“You kissing me.” Her beautiful eyes are shiny behind the lenses of her glasses. Those eyes of hers and the mysteries they contain are more fascinating to me than anything else in the world.
I swallow hard. “Best mistake I ever made.” I give her the truth and try to do the right thing. “But a mistake nonetheless.”
“It wasn’t a mistake to me.” She twists her hands together, her eyes shining even brighter.
“Peace,” I groan. If she only knew how many times I’ve imagined having her.
“Please don’t say no.” The rose hue on her cheeks deepens. “I know I’m not sexy or experienced like the groupies. But I want you. And I want you to be my first.”
