“The fuck you mean she’s not going anywhere?”
I even forgot to sign, pissed, but Val could obviously hear me. Even though she could, I made sure to communicate with her in the way most people never bothered. It also came in handy as she was my closest confidante and sometimes people didn’t need to hear what we were talking about.
Val moved her hands through FaceTime, her phone positioned somewhere back at Peters even though I kept certain things from my daughter, she wasn’t a child anymore. I was sure she could guess some of the things my life entailed.
I wouldn’t protect Sia from anything in my life. In fact, I’d go out of my way to break her.
“I need the job,” she merely said, and she didn’t look happy that she did. It seemed she had no choice but to take the options available to her here. I understood that. Sometimes our choices weren’t left to us.
I rubbed my knuckles, fingering over brass rings. “If you stay here, work here, you won’t leave this house. Not at first anyway.” She had a good idea there with her proposal. I nodded. “You won’t until I know what I’m dealing with when it comes to you.”
“Fine,” she said, and even though she’d proposed it, she didn’t look happy about that either. Those brown cheeks filled with red color and I smirked at her.
We’ll see how long this innocent little lamb lasts .
