Chapter 7

Her body ached to have Sidney. All day, he’d been flirting with her, and she wanted him.

She didn’t even care if there were people in the room with them, she was so horney that she was going to come if he touched her in the right place.

Depending on how you were to look at it, if it was the wrong or right place, she supposed.

They were at Fowler’s home tonight having dinner.

It had been catered, and the food could have been dust as far as she was concerned.

Every time she took a bite of food, she would look over at Sidney, and he’d be licking his lips.

She nearly snarled at him to behave, or she was going to have to kill him. She could only take so much.

Tearing her eyes away from Sidney, her relief was short-lived. Now she had to adjust herself in her chair and looked right at Amy when she did so. The woman smiled at her, and she had a feeling that she knew just what was going on.

“You got it bad, don’t you?” She could only nod, surprised once again that she could hear it when they spoke to her through a link. “Yeah, I’ve been there. They can be the best thing in the world to you until they’re not. I wanted to brain Fowler when he got me all worked up like he can sometimes.”

“Do you have a filter? I mean, at all?” She pretended to think about it and smiled, saying she didn’t believe that she did.

“I’m not used to being spoken to about sex like this.

I mean, I know what it is and all, but I have a feeling that it’s going to be so much different that I’m going to not be able to move for a week. ”

“More like a month. But it’ll be worth it.

I’d like to tell you too that it gets better—or worse, however you want to look at it, every time.

They seemed to excel at making love and having you scream.

” She said she’d never enjoyed sex before.

“He’ll make sure you do over himself. I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but you don’t have any phobias about sex, do you?

I mean, what has happened to you hasn’t colored your outlook on sex, has it? ”

“No. I’ve had sex since then, but it was never any good.

I’m afraid of disappointing him. I know that I will, as a matter of fact.

” She told her that the only way she’d disappoint him is if she didn’t try to enjoy herself.

“I think that he’s going to expect me to know about all kinds of sex, and I only know one way. Just to get it over with.”

“You’ll change your mind once you get started.

” She hoped so. There was no way that she wanted their first time to be bad between the two of them.

“Make sure you tell him what you like and don’t like.

I think that’s true of anyone having sex, but more so with these guys.

They’ll go out of their way to make sure you enjoy this more than they do.

And I promise you that it’ll be the greatest sex you’ve ever had. ”

“I just hope that he’s not wanting to divorce me after one time.” She said that he’d not do that. Even if he didn’t come. “I want him to enjoy it too. I mean, more so than I will. Is that possible?”

“Yes, more than you think.” She looked around the room, avoiding eye contact with Sidney for now.

The others were talking about different things, and she found herself relaxed talking to Amy about sex.

She’d never had a talk with her mother; she’d been raped before the talk could occur, and she just figured that she knew it all, and that’s all there was to it.

“You’re going to be all right. You know that, don’t you? ”

“No. I don’t know anything.” She felt her eyes fill with tears and wanted to go hide someplace where she could cry her eyes out.

“I know that I want him and that’s all. What happens during that is about as scary to me as anything that has ever happened to me.

I just don’t want to be disappointed. Not at all.

Nor do I want him to be disappointed in me.

That scares me the most. I’ve never wanted anything like I do him in my life. ”

“I understand.” She had a feeling that she did too.

“You’re going to be all right. I know it.

Once you get over being nervous, you’ll be just fine.

Something else you should know. When you’re overwhelmed, and he figures it out, or you tell him to stop, he will.

It won’t matter if he’s come or not; he’ll not go any further than to hold you tightly in his arms.”

“Will he be upset with me?” Shaking her head, she told her not to answer that. “I know the answer. He’ll never be mad at me about something like this. Or anything for that matter. He’ll love me until his dying breath and beyond.”

They talked about different things the two of them. When she had a question, she would ask her, and Amy told her straight up what the answer was, and she felt good about that. Then they got to talking about having lunch.

“I couldn’t wait for the others to find their mates so that I could have some friends.

” She said that she doubted that she didn’t have any friends.

“I don’t. Not ones that I’d like to have lunch with on a regular basis.

The others all work. Especially Sammy. They’re putting off having children so that they can both work outside the home.

I think that’s wonderful. I wanted to have Fowler’s baby right away. ”

“I can see that.” She looked ready to have the baby any day now, but she wasn’t due for a few more months.

“I’m going to be watching you from now on about how to raise a dragon baby.

I’m excited for you, but I’m also jealous.

You’ve had so much time to be able to learn all these things, and I feel like a novice. ”

“You are. Don’t get me wrong, I knew nothing about being with a dragon when I first met Fowler.

In fact, you could say that it was touch and go for a while there if we’d even get together.

He’d been a mean bastard.” She’d heard the story about Fowler demanding that Amy not spend his money and live in his house.

She might well have killed him herself. “I have some books that I can lend you. They’re really helpful.

All the others have read them, and I’ll make sure that you get them soon.

I don’t know if you can read Dragon yet, but once you bond, you’ll be able to for sure then. ”

“A lot depends on bonding with Sidney, doesn’t it?

” She said she’d be getting more magic, too, when they did.

And a dragon. “He told me about the dragon and how it moves around on my body. I’m slightly creeped out about that, but if it comes with the territory, then I’m all for it. I just want to be safe.”

They talked about the mayor then. He was going to be a threat, Amy told her, so she was to be on the lookout for him.

She asked her what sort of threat an eighty-year-old man would be, and she told her that he knows that they’re dragons and could tell someone about it.

Someone who might not care if they’ve been serving the community for a long time. He would just want a story.

“Washington could make it difficult for some of us if he gets someone to listen to his story. It will only take one person to believe, and that will be the end of our wonderful life. We’ll have to be on our toes when he’s around.

It seems to me that he’d be sick of being mayor, but he’s getting paid to do nothing.

When I read over the list of things that he’s not done, I was appalled by it.

Even though the money has been there, he’s still not working on projects that can better the city.

That’s what I think is the most shameful about him. ”

She said she’d be careful, and if she needed help, she knew how to call for some. She had been told no less than a dozen times not to get herself in a situation where she couldn’t get out of, even if she had to call in the troops. They protected their own, and she was considered family now.

After dinner, the cleanup began. The caterers would do all the work, but they’d have to decide on what to do with leftovers.

There weren’t too many of those, but they still had to be dealt with.

As soon as they were all seated in the living room, a massive room with so many places to sit, Amy gave her the books.

It was then that she got a gift from Storm.

“It’s a hold-all purse. You can put a car in it, and it will never weigh more than it does right now.

And when I say it will hold it all, you won’t believe how much you can put into it and still have room.

” She asked about bodies. “I’ve used it for that once.

They fit nicely inside. And if you ever need to retrieve it, all you have to do is think of it, and it’ll fill your hand. ”

“I was joking about the body. Were you?” Storm only smiled at her. She was the scariest being that she’d ever met and didn’t care who knew it. Even Alex, being a big, bad vampire, didn’t scare her as much as Storm did. And she knew she had a sister, too, who was just as badassed.

They were watching television on the big screen when she opened the first book.

The pages were blank, no less than she thought they’d be, and she couldn’t wait until she could read them.

There were three volumes in all, and she was told to start with the first one, as it had the most information in it. Then there was the third book.

“It’s the book of dragons. It shows the deaths and births of every dragon ever born.

It’s magical, so when it has to add a name to it, it simply appears.

It also has the person who killed the dragon there and the reason.

You’ve heard of Grail, right?” She said that she’d heard the story of how she’d killed him.

“Yes, he’d nearly cut off Fowler’s head, and I saved him from certain death. It’s all in there as well.”
