Chapter 9 #3

“Sounds really good. I know that the kids will love it too.” They loved pizza, no matter if they made it themselves or had it delivered. “What time will they be home today?”

“Three-thirty. Just enough time for us to get the gifts for Morning’s birthday into the house and into our bedroom.

I hope she likes what we got her.” He was sure that she would.

Their daughter was thrilled about anything that had wrapping paper on it.

She loved the bright colors that came with it, too.

“I have a feeling that she’s going to love the doll that we picked up for her.

I’m glad the faeries were able to make it in time for her. It looks just like her.”

“The fact that when she changes clothes, the doll will too is going to be the best hit of all. I’m glad that you thought of that.

She’s going to be the envy of every little girl in the world with this doll.

” The doll had magic, too, that would protect their daughter.

That was the biggest plus with her. “Before I forget to tell you. Did you hear that William is dead?”

“Yes, just a little while ago. I guess we don’t have to worry about the kids being around him anymore.

It’s really too bad that someone didn’t do something about him sooner.

” He agreed with her, but it was hard to do something about a being that was stronger than you were.

“I hope he rots in hell. To think that he was married to a wonderful person like your grandmother boggles my mind.”

Their kids had come to them when he started hurting them.

It didn’t seem like much, but he’d pinch them hard enough to draw blood sometimes.

Not to mention, he’d lie to them about him being a superior being, too.

He wasn’t any stronger than he was, but he projected a feeling to the kids that he was stronger than even their grandma, his mom.

No one was stronger than his mom, and everyone knew it but for the kids.

They learned soon enough about him, and they kept him away from their children.

It caused a little bit of conflict, but Grandma seemed to understand.

“Did you know that he was beating your grandmother?” He said he’d not heard that.

“I guess the faeries were protecting her as best that they could, but he was stronger than them. And being the former king, he told them that he’d kill their families if they told on him.

I can’t imagine being in that sort of predicament where you’d have to choose life over your family’s life. ”

“I guess it happens a great deal with the faeries. They’re so tiny that people think they can take advantage of them, but in a pip, they’re stronger than anyone.

I’m glad that they were able to protect Grandma, but I wish I’d known about it sooner.

I might well have taken him on.” He asked if she’d heard who had killed him.

“A dragon slayer. I had no idea that there was one of those around. I know there was one a while back, before you were born, but I didn’t know that someone had been chosen to do the job nowadays.

I’m just glad that he or she was able to take care of him.

If anyone deserved to die, it was that man. ” He agreed.

After bringing in the gifts, he went about his business of making sure that donations were coming in for the new homes.

He really didn’t need the money, but he’d been told that if he paid for it all on his own, then there would be other projects that he’d be expected to pay for.

While it seemed as if he had an endless supply of money—the saying that dragons cried tears of gems was true—he didn’t want to have to pay for every project that came along.

Just as he was closing up his files, the kids came home.

He loved his family. They were his world and then some.

As he was getting his hugs, he’d only just seen them this morning, he asked about their day.

It was wonderful to hear about the things that they’d done today and the things that they were going to do tomorrow.

His children had a busy life for being only kids.

And he loved it. As soon as they were settled down, he helped with snacks.

They ate dinner together every night. And when one of them wasn’t home for some reason, they’d have dinner with the kids themselves.

It didn’t happen often, just every once in a while, but when it did, he could feel the disappointment in the air around the table.

They were a close-knit family, and he loved every one of his kids.

After bathtime, he and Olivia put them to bed after reading them a story.

It was something that they had done since they’d been infants, and they continued it even as they grew up.

After getting the kids in bed, they sat in the living room.

While it was just the two of them, they didn’t use sign language but did enjoy talking to each other.

As soon as they were settled on the couch, he told her in length about the interview that he’d had today.

She was no less pissed off than she’d been earlier, but he was able to calm her down.

He loved his fiery mate and knew that he would forever.

They were a perfect couple, and he wanted her to know that every day of their lives together.

“I’ve been thinking about the holidays. We need to get started on them if we’re going to take that vacation with the kids at Christmas break.

” He said that they’d have to buy a bigger house if they were going to buy like they did last year.

“Yes, we did go a bit overboard. I’ll try not to do that this year.

But it was so much fun, don’t you think? ”

“Yes. I think the adults enjoyed it as much as the kids. I know that I did.” They talked about what things to get each family member and made mental lists of things to get their kids.

They did spoil them at that holiday, but not any time of the year.

It was a holiday for giving, and they did give a great deal.

“I was thinking that we’d go on a cruise as a family this coming up summer.

That would make a great gift for everyone, and I can’t think of a better way to get away from work schedules than that.

Not that many of us work all that much anymore.

I even heard that Sammy is going to be cutting back her time at the restaurants.

Maybe they’ll have children now. Who knows? ”

“That would be wonderful for them. I know that your mom has been hinting about them having children now that they’re both working less.

I didn’t realize that we could have children for as long as we wanted.

That’s good to know.” He asked her if she wanted any more.

“No. I think we have plenty right now. I’m happy that they’re all out of that dragon stage and into kids’ stuff.

I know we have a lot to go through yet, but I’m thinking that it’ll be fun when they can shift. ”

By midnight, they were both ready for bed.

Sidney thought about his dream that he’d had so long ago and was glad that he’d been able to make sure that his children were safe.

He’d not had another one like it, but he did see little bits of the future that made him glad that he couldn’t see more.

It was scary knowing what the future might bring, and even scarier to know that there were things that he had no control over.

Getting into bed, he held Olivia until she was asleep, and his body was relaxed enough that he was able to sleep himself.

It was going to be a long day tomorrow, and he was looking forward to it.

It was his turn to take the kids to school, and he knew that he’d have a blast doing that too.

As he was drifting off, he thought of his mom.

She’d been so good to them over the years that he wanted to do something for her.

He didn’t know what it would be, but he was going to give it a great deal of thought.

He loved his parents so much and knew that for as long as he lived, he’d forever respect them too.

Life was simply better because of them, and he was going to tell them that more often.

Also, that he loved them. And he did with all of his heart.
