Chapter twenty-eight

Reed

O pal has gone.

Yet I keep the bitter thoughts to myself as Zayden searches the house like a headless chicken.

“Surely, she has to be in the house somewhere…”

My poor Omega.

I don’t have the heart to tell him that she is not in the house.

Nor do I have the heart to tell him that her lingering scent is laced with that familiar, acrid note of deception as he keeps on looking for her.

“Did you look in her nest?” Levi asks.

“Twice,” Zayden responds, checking under the stairs, and I cover my eyes.

It's hard to watch.

Magnus is beside himself. “She was fine this afternoon. When we got back, she said she wanted to be alone, so I left her in the nest. Where would she go?”

Do I really have to be the one to answer that?

I have told them all from the start that Omega was not to be trusted, and now look at where we all are.

Magnus glances at me. “Can you sniff her out?”

Oh, I sure could.

In fact, I was just about to leave and go after her.

No doubt she is up to something nefarious.

But I will catch up with her in no time.

I always do.

Zayden whirls around, looking at me hopefully.

Levi cocks a brow, folding his arms.

My jaw clicks, and then I depart for the door. “I’ll find her.”

Zayden heaves a breath. “I’m sure she has just gone for a walk...”

Yeah, without informing us.

She is not to be left unattended by all means. One of the requests of the Academy.

It was the same with Zayden.

“Maybe we should call Ella or Belle?” Magnus suggests.

Zayden's face lights up. “Good idea!”

I pause at the door as Zayden rings the blonde Omega, and the expression on his face says it all.

“She’s not at Ella’s.”

Go figure.

Magnus crosses his arms, nodding his chin at Zayden's phone. “Then try Belle.”

So, Zayden rings Rian’s number since he doesn’t have Belle’s, and then his face falls as he lowers his phone.

“No. Not there either...”

Anxiety bleeds through the bond as he drops onto the couch, and I hate this…

Hate this for him.

Zayden doesn’t deserve this, and Opal is going to pay for making my Omega look like that.

“I… I don’t understand…” he whispers. “She… she was happy here, right? We made her happy…”

He looks at Levi hopefully.

Our pack lead rubs between his eyes, and it looks like he has the same headache I do. “Zayden…”

Zayden perks up. “Call Felicia! Maybe she knows where Opal is.”

“No.”

They all look at me.

I take turns meeting each of their eyes. “ I will find her. And when we bring her back, I am locking her up and questioning her.”

Yes.

No more Mr. Nice Acute Alpha.

It's time to be the beast.

“We are doing things my way from now on. If anyone has any objections, then please speak.”

No one objects, and it seems their minds are set.

Opal's disappearance is very strange, but I will get to the bottom of it.

And then I can finally have my way with her.

I can’t wait to sink my teeth into her…

With a grunt, I take my leave, inhaling deeply when I pick up on her lemon cupcake scent on the wind.

She’s not far…

I’ll find her.

Mark my word.

Opal will be mine.
