Chapter Fifteen
Silver
Now that she’s mine, I’m never letting her go. This is forever. -Silver
Finding my woman surrounded by gun-wielding maniacs while she yells at them about their teeth brushing habits might be the most memorable scene I’ve ever encountered in my life. It may also be the scariest.
Charity stands fearless in the middle of it all. One brutal-looking man bowed over in pain and the other two holding guns trained right at my future bride.
“Fuck, I guess it’s go time, boys!” There is no time to organize, no time to think. We raid the place like we’re SWAT and they’re on our Most Wanted list.
“Royals, flank to the right! Take ‘em down, boys!” Royal commands in a loud voice. “Striker, you got Cowboy in your sights?”
“Takin’ him down now, boss!”
I watch as Cowboy’s body falls to the ground at a rapid pace. One down, two to go.
All I can do is run for my girl. Charity had the good sense to dive once the gunfire hit. The Silver Snakes are subduing the bald guy named Vulture. It’s only the blonde kid, Bulldog, who stands there with a gun shaking in his hand.
I crouch down to where Charity is huddled under a desk, chair still strapped to her back.
“My precious girl. Fuck, I’m so damn glad to see you.” Gunfire still rings in my ears, but I don’t stop to turn around.
It’s the look in Charity’s eyes that finally stops me from gathering her in my arms and celebrating getting her back. Her eyes are wide and still full of fear.
“Silver, behind you! They’re attacking King! They’re turning on him!” I hear Tornado’s deep rumbling voice and feel my heart sink.
Fuck.
I turn, watching as two of King’s own guys attack him from behind, trying to knock the gun out of his hand.
“Scar! Brick! Blaze! Surround ‘em! Get King out of there!” I yell out to my guys, trying to control a situation that has suddenly gotten out of hand.
My own gun is in my hand. I can feel the warm steel, the familiar weight. I raise and aim, taking out one of King’s guys who aims to tackle him from behind. I see Scar take another out with a bullet to the forehead.
There are moments of confusion, moments of tearing bad guys off good, of trying to figure out who’s a traitor or not. In the end, my men are standing. Several of King’s are not.
I turn back to Charity. She’s already rising, swaying on her feet.
I pull her into my arms, letting her weight fall onto me. “Fuck, angel, thought I lost you.”
“Thought I lost you too, Silver. Never again.” Her voice is faint. She pulls back and looks up at me, eyes still glazed over with shock and fear. “I’m afraid I’m about to do something very stupid and weak, Silver. I’m about to pass out.”
And she does, going limp in my arms.
I slide to the carpet with her. I look around. Blood. Chaos. Pure terror. This is my life. This is what I’m offering her.
I hope to hell she’s ready for it.
