CHAPTER 15 #4
With a contented sigh, Jannie settled beside Nick. Never in her life had she been completely filled like that, and it had felt incredible. The cramps were gone, and she felt good.
“What do you want to talk about?”
“You. I have this feeling that I’ve only scratched the surface.”
He smirked. “That’s not the only thing you scratched.”
Jannie blushed as she recalled digging her nails into him. “Can’t help it. You bring it out of me.”
He smiled. “What is it that I bring out of you? Besides spectacular orgasms?”
“It’s hard to describe. Being with you is easy. At least, outside this house.”
“And inside?” His heated gaze confirmed the double entendre.
“Inside, I become this … unhinged woman. It must be your pheromones. You walk into a room, and I want to jump you and … I don’t know, attack.”
“I don’t mind,” he said.
“Be careful what you agree to,” she warned. “You don’t know how many times I stopped myself from biting you.”
“What stopped you?”
“I’ve always been afraid.”
“Of what?”
“Of …”
Don’t be aggressive, Jannie.
She hesitated, trying to suppress Blake and his ugly admonitions, but they came rushing in anyway.
In her failure, something struck her with perfect clarity: Blake had always made sure she orgasmed multiple times but never granted her full access to him. Any attempt to turn the tables in bed irritated him and caused him to shut down.
Open your legs. I’m going to eat you, and then I’ll screw you nice and hard, the way you like it.
Yes, she liked it hard but hated to be told she would be screwed. She didn’t know why; she just did. He’d known it yet always said it anyway.
And then there was the fellatio thing. That was—
“Come back to me,” she heard Nick say, his voice low and soothing.
She forced a smile and turned her attention back to him to find him regarding her with concern.
“Tell me where you went just now.” He reached to smooth a warm hand over her shoulder and down her arm.
“You don’t want to know.”
“Actually, I do. I want to know you. I want to know everything about you.”
“There isn’t much to know.”
“Oh, but there is. Your thoughts. Your dreams. Your likes and dislikes. And your deepest, darkest desires.” He kissed her shoulder. “Especially those.”
She gazed up at him in wonder, her heart rate spiking at the sight of the fire in his eyes and the determination in the set of his jaw. “And what would you do with that knowledge?”
His smile was sexy and full of promise. “Use it.”
“OK.” Two could play this game. “How about you tell me something no one knows about you?”
“Hmm, let’s see …” He stroked her back, his gaze trained on the ceiling. “I absolutely love ties. I have more ties than all my other pieces of clothing combined.”
“Really? How many?”
“I’ve lost count.”
“I’ve only seen the plain navy ones you wear for work.”
He nodded. “The others are all at my apartment. Thing is, I hardly ever get to wear them, yet I keep buying more.”
“I have the same problem with handbags.” She grinned. “I’d like to see your collection sometime.”
“Deal. Your turn.”
What was she comfortable revealing? Jannie decided to stick with the superficial clothing topic. “I hate trying on clothes. I have no patience for it, partly because I think nothing looks good on me.”
He looked at her in disbelief. “You do know you’re beautiful, right?”
She shook her head. “Honestly? I’ve never seen myself that way.”
“Then I’ll just have to help you see yourself through my eyes.”
If she had any regrets about jumping him the way she had, she was quickly losing them. Jannie snuggled closer into his warmth, pressing herself against him, her thigh over his, her cheek on his broad chest. “Your turn. And make it deeper.”
“Deeper?”
“Yeah.”
“Now, that word turns me on.”
She slapped his chest playfully. “You know what I mean.”
“OK …” He pondered for a moment. “I have the same nightmare over and over.”
“The same one?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh.” Probably about his mother.
“And when I do, it’s pretty bad.”
“Is that why you keep so many night-lights on?”
He nodded somberly. “They help.”
“What else helps?”
“Until now, nothing. But maybe …”
“Maybe?”
“Maybe if you slept with me …”
She smiled. “I just did.”
“I meant real sleep, aside from other things we can do in bed.”
She still wondered if she had fully satisfied him, but it looked as if he didn’t want this to be a one-time thing, so maybe she had. “Wherever I go, Rolf goes. You do know that means having a smelly dog in your bedroom?”
He grinned. “I like your smelly dog. Your turn for deeper.”
“Deeper … I have a deeper-than-normal vagina,” she blurted without thinking.
His grin widened. “Ah. That explains why you took me so well.”
She couldn’t believe she’d told him that. As a gynecologist, she regularly discussed such things but never with guys, so warmth spread up her neck and cheeks.
“Correction: you took me well.” She turned her head and pinched his nipple hard to hide her embarrassment.
He hissed in a breath.
She ran her thumb over his other nipple. The doorbell rang, and from the other room, Rolf boomed his usual territorial bark.
“Saved by the DoorDash bell,” Nick said, rubbing his reddened skin.
She gave him a sly smile. “Only for now, Captain Kent.”
