Chapter 10 #2
He lets out an exhausted sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose and tipping his head back. “I should have been more careful about what I wished for,” he mumbles. “Fine,” he sighs again. “Fine. Do your thing, have fun with it. I’ll still help when you need me,” he reassures.
“Thank you, Daddy!”
“But!” he says. “I will not budge when it comes to making sure there is no evidence that could reveal you as this killer.”
“Of course.” I nod.
He shakes his head. “I’m going to make myself a drink,” he mutters.
“I love you!” I throw myself at him, giving him a big hug before he can leave. “You’re the best dad ever.”
“No need to butter me up, you got what you wanted,” he jokes, making it sound like he’s annoyed with me, but hugs me back. “Be safe. Be careful. And most of all, don’t get caught.”
“Duh, what kind of serial killer would I be if I got caught? My dad is the Midnight Shadow. I got this.” I grin, stepping back.
“Mmhmm,” he hums as he steps out of my room and shuts the door.
“Okay.” I spin back around to face Skittles. “Now, should I wear a wig, or no?”
I’m sitting on my bed, laptop in front of me, eagerly waiting for Skittles to locate the guys. They just got back yesterday, but I only managed to get a glimpse of them before they went into Sylas’ house.
They seem to spend a lot of time there lately. After the death of Sylas’ dad last year, it’s almost like they moved in with him.
Skittles has captured Jasper and Wesley going into their own family’s home from time to time, but they always end up back here.
I don’t blame them. Sylas has that whole place to himself and no one to answer to. No one is breathing down his neck.
With his sister attending an all-girls boarding school for the past few years, it’s only been him in that house.
I really need to find a way inside it to set up the cameras. There’s only so much Skittles can capture from outside. Just imagine all the things I’m missing behind closed doors.
Sylas always has a massive Halloween party every year. I don’t go, because well, I hate people, and the idea of being around drunk assholes isn’t my kind of fun. But I could make an exception. It will also allow me a better chance at finding out what girls they’re messing with.
But my main priority is to sneak around and put the cameras up.
For now, I’ll just have to make do with watching from afar from what Skittles can capture for me.
Skittles is currently perched on the tree near the front door. Everything is quiet, just the sounds of the cars on the street nearby.
They all live in the Garden District, just down the street from my house. Having them so damn close yet not being able to get closer is pure fucking torture.
Trust me, I’ve thought about hanging around their places, getting this footage firsthand, but they have cameras around their property.
I want them to think I’m just as fucked up in the head as they are, not some creepy stalker.
I mean, I am kind of being a creepy stalker, but they don’t need to know that. If they caught me watching them, it would fuck everything up.
The point is to be discreet, to blend into the background, to not be seen.
Sometimes I wish we lived next door to one another because one of my bedroom windows has a perfect view into the house to the left of ours.
I’d much rather see one of my guys walking around naked than eighty-year-old Mr. Petters.
The poor man has dementia, it’s not his fault. But can’t someone keep a pair of damn underwear on that man?
“Nola.” Mom knocks at my door, making me jump.
Slamming the laptop shut, I climb off the bed and open my door. “Hey, Mom.” I smile.
“What are you doing in there?” she asks me, trying to peek over my shoulder. “You’ve been spending a lot of time in your room the past few days. Are you feeling okay?”
“I’m fine.” I smile. “Just making sure I have everything ready to start school next week.”
“It’s crazy that you’re starting college already.” She smiles. “Ugh, where did my sweet baby go?”
“I’m right here, Mom.” I laugh. “Just getting older.”
“Don’t you talk to me about getting old.” She waves me off. “Have you seen me?”
“And you’re just as stunning as the first day I met you.” Dad steps up behind her, wrapping his arms around her.
Mom giggles as Dad peppers kisses on her cheek, neck, and head.
“Ew. Get a room,” I joke, loving how cute they are together.”
Dad looks at me, raising a brow. “I mean, if you want us to.”
“Toren!” Mom slaps his arm, her cheeks turning bright pink. “Stop that.” She turns to me. “Ignore your father. We came to say goodbye.”
“You’re leaving?” I ask, my smile falling.
I’m looking forward to not having to worry about my comings and goings for a little while, but I haven’t been away from my parents for more than a weekend here and there at a time.
“I’m gonna miss you.” I step forward, giving them both a hug.
“Call if you need anything,” Mom reminds me. “If you need us to come home, we’ll come home.”
“She won’t need us to come home,” Dad says. “We earned this time for ourselves. Nola is a big girl, she can handle herself.”
“I know,” Mom says. “She’s still my baby girl, though.”
Dad steps forward and gives me a hug. “Be good,” he warns.
I can’t help but snort out a laugh. “Oh, yeah. I’ll be good. So good.”
“Nola,” he chastises, pulling back. “Remember what I said.”
“I know.” I nod.
What my Dad doesn’t know won’t hurt him. He has no idea of my plans for tomorrow night. And their leaving today is perfect timing.
Once Mom and Dad are gone, I head back into the room and open my laptop.
“Shit,” I hiss, realizing I’ve missed something as I watch them get into a car and take off. “Damn it.”
Clicking out of the live feed, I scroll back through the recorded feed, stopping when I see them opening the front door.
“Two months,” Sylas groans as he sulks down the steps. “Two months of jerking off. Do you know how fucking sick and tired I am of blowing my load all over myself rather than some sobbing bitch on her knees?”
Ah, okay then. Not what I was expecting him to say.
Wait, did he say two months of jerking off? Does that mean… No. They haven’t gone two months without having sex, have they?
Why would they do that? They were in a foreign country, I’m sure they could have had access to all the women they could want. So why would they refrain from sex?
“Trust me, we know.” Jasper’s low, annoyed voice is so damn sexy. I’ve missed it. “We fucking know because it’s all you’ve complained about. Sorry that some of us aren’t sex addicts."
“I’m not a sex addict.” Sylas turns around to face Jasper. “I just like sex. I could stop any time I wanted to.”
“Yeah, and I’m the queen of England,” Jasper drolls.
“I didn’t know you were dead.” Sylas snickers.
“What the fuck are you going on about?” Jasper asks.
“You said you were the queen of England. She’s dead.” Sylas gives him a shit-eating grin, knowing he’s getting on Jasper’s nerves.
“Fuck off before I stab you,” he snarls.
“Ohhhh, kinky. You know I’d like it.” He wiggles his brows.
“No. You like to be the one doing the stabbing,” Wesley cuts in, sounding amused. “And I’ll take that bet.”
“What bet?” Sylas asks.
“I’d pay you a million to see you refrain from sex.” Wesley cocks a brow, seeing if Sylas will take the bet.
I’m smiling, loving their banter. Also, I wanna know if Sylas is going to agree. Sylas doesn’t need the money, but he’s also not one to turn down a challenge.
“Why the fuck would I do that?” Sylas gapes at him.
“You just heard me bitching about needing to sink into some pussy. Plus, I did refrain from sex. Two fucking months of it. You hate me, don’t you?
I fucking knew it.” He points an accusing finger at Wesley.
“You just want to see me suffer. I thought we were friends, blood brothers, man.”
“Stop being so fucking dramatic.” Welsey rolls his eyes, taking a puff of his cigarette before tossing the butt onto the ground and snubbing it out with his foot. “You’re just proving my point.”
“So I like sex. What's the crime in that?” Sylas asks.
“There isn’t,” Jasper answers. “It’s the fact that with us going back to school, I know for a fact you’re not going to be able to go more than a few days before you’re pulling some random girl into a closet to fuck just to get off quickly in between parties.”
