Chapter 16 #3
“Put the claws away, Poppy.” He winks. “I’m not here to hurt you. Until you see that, I’ll back away,” he says as he backs away from us. “For now.” He chuckles. “But you will fall in love with me, I promise. Just give it time.”
“Not before I put you down like the dog you are,” she hisses, only making him smirk at her with a heated intensity.
I’m so lost on what's going on, but I like Garrett. He seems funny.
“Okay, what was that all about?” I question the second he’s gone.
Callie groans, turning around to lean against the counter again. “I can’t believe he’s going to the same school as me.” She lets her head fall.
“And he is?” I press.
“Garett Holland. He went to an all-boys school in London. It was like three blocks down the street from my school. He’s been a thorn in my side for years.
Always at any event, they allowed the schools to co-mingle.
He decided he’d poke at me, getting off on getting a rise out of me.
Major Playboy. I think he just doesn’t like the fact that I was one of the only girls to turn him down.
Stupid boy with his black silky hair, tattoos, and muscles,” she mutters.
“Just because you're hot, doesn’t mean every woman is going to fall at your feet.”
Wait. Hold up. She said he went to an all-boys school in London. That can’t be right. If that were true, then how have I seen him so many times with the guys over the years?
Maybe he came back home often?
Something's going on here, and I’m not sure if it’s something to be worried about or not. I’ll be looking into it, that's for sure.
For now, I need to find a time to slip away and plant those cameras.
“Oh my god, he’s here,” Callie squeals excitedly.
“Where?”
She points to a blond guy standing by the fireplace with a group of people.
“Go talk to him,” I urge.
“Really?” she asks.
“Yes. I gotta go pee anyway. Go chat it up, get your man, and all that jazz.” I wave her off.
“Okay.” She beams. “Wish me luck!”
“Good luck!” I watch as she goes. She walks up to him and smiles. He grins down at her, and the two of them start talking.
Good. That means it’s go time.
I want to look around, to see if anyone is watching me, but if I do, it would seem suspicious. Instead, I just turn around and head towards the stairs, hoping no one follows me.
Once I’m in Callie’s room, I grab the cameras from my bag and sneak back out into the hall.
“If I were a boy’s bedroom, where would I be?” Walking down the hall, I open every door. One is a bathroom, the other is a closet. And then… Bingo.
Opening the door, I see that this is very much a boy’s room. And by the smell, it’s Sylas’.
Checking to make sure no one is in the hallway, I quickly step in and close the door behind me.
Flicking on the light, I look around for the best place to hide it. It needs to be somewhere with a good angle and not where he’d be by often.
My eyes flick around the room until they stop on the smoke detector.
“You will do.” Grabbing the chair by the desk, I move it over so that I can step onto it. It’s not easy getting that thing down, but thankfully, the roof isn’t too high in his room.
After I mess around with it a bit, I place the camera how I need it and put it back.
The downside is that I needed to break it to get it to work in my favor. Let’s hope there’s no fire.
Once it’s in place, I’m about to leave when I pause.
Spinning around, I look at his bed, biting my lip.
“I’ll be quick,” I tell myself before running over to his bed and climbing on it.
Burying my face into his pillow, I inhale deeply. His scent fills my nose, and I moan.
He smells so fucking good.
Knowing I spent too much time up here already, I take one last sniff and go to leave.
“No,” I scold myself as I spot his dirty hamper as I leave. “I shouldn’t.”
Or… should I? Because his dress shirt is sitting right on the top. I’m sure he wouldn’t even notice it missing. He probably has a ton.
“Fuck it.” I snatch it up real quick and then slip out of the room.
I manage to find Jasper and Wesley’s rooms, the ones they stay in while they’re here.
Unfortunately, their ceilings are a lot higher, so I placed one of the cameras on a bookshelf, up high, and the other is tucked into a photo frame on the wall.
I’m starting to think I might have a stealing problem because when I’m done, I’m rushing back to Callie’s room to shove not only Sylas’ shirt into my bag, but a pair of Jasper’s sunglasses and one of Wesley’s bracelets.
What? I needed something from all of them. It’s not like I stole their dirty boxers or anything. That would be crossing a line.
I’m leaving Callie’s room when I hear giggling. I look to the left, and my heart sinks. A girl is hanging off Wesley’s arm as he leads her down toward his room.
Fisting my hands at my sides, a wave of anger fills me as I watch.
They stop in front of his room. He opens the door, letting the girl go in first.
As if he can feel me watching him, he turns my way.
I try to keep my face void of all emotions, but he doesn’t. His lips curve into a slow, cruel smile, and then he’s stepping into his room, closing the door behind him.
Well, I did say I was hoping to find a girl to kill tonight, right?
Looks like I’ve found her.
That didn’t take long.
