Chapter Seven

Mina didn’t notice the limo through her tears until they were about to enter it. She saw Macy waiting by the back door and gave a little surprised cry and ran to him. Macy smiled and hugged her. He patted her gently on the shoulder. She took a step back, smiled, and wiped her tears.

Macy looked over her head at the men. “Everything taken care of?” Macy asked in a low growl.

Koa and Jon nodded. They’d never seen that murderous look on their friend’s face before. They knew the man was a badass and had done things he’d never speak of, but he’d always been calm with them.

“She won’t ever have to deal with that again,” Jon said.

Macy cleared his throat and hugged the little woman one more time before walking them to the back of the car. He opened the door and waited.

“Why can’t I ride up with you again?”

Koa and Jon scowled.

Macy chuckled. “I think your men would rather have you in the back with them. You can ride up with me another time.”

She smiled and crawled into the back.

The men waited for her to settle in before they turned to Macy.

“What the hell?” Jon growled.

Macy rolled his eyes at their jealousy.

“You know I’m the last man you need to worry about. I’m old enough to be her grandfather, for God’s sake. I think she sees me as a father figure.”

Koa relaxed and nodded. “I get it,” he said and took a step toward the limo.

Macy cleared his throat. “By the way, boys. If you hurt that girl, you’ll have me to deal with.”

Jon snorted. “Jesus, Macy. You’ve known us for decades and her less than a day.”

Macy smiled. “Mina is one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met, and she accepted me from the beginning. She never looked or acted terrified of me, as most people do. She’s the daughter I always dreamed of having.”

Koa and Jon glanced at each other.

Jon nodded. “We won’t hurt her.”

Macy nodded and held up a hand. “I don’t see that happening either, but I just had to say my peace.”

Koa grinned and slapped Macy on the shoulder before ducking into the car.

Koa maneuvered Mina in the back seat, so she’d be situated in the middle of them. Jon sat down very close to her, with his thigh touching hers. She almost groaned at the heat she felt through her pants.

Mina looked from one to the other. “What are you guys doing here?”

“We came to see you,” Jon replied.

Her brows lowered in confusion before she shook her head and then bit back a moan and pressed on her temples. They drove a few blocks when the realization hit her, making her gasp.

“What is it, pet?” Koa asked and laid a hand on her thigh.

She bit her lip, carefully shook her head, and then grimaced when a spike of pain hit her in the head. They’d done enough for her. Now she just needed to go home, rest, and try to get rid of the headache that made her whole body, even her teeth, ache.

“Nothing.”

Jon gently turned her head to face him with his hand. “Remember what we said about lying?”

She took a shuddering breath. “Yes, I do. But I’m not lying. I’m just not telling you what’s on my mind,” she said and shrugged.

“How about we take care of your headache, and then we’ll discuss how this relationship is going to work? All right, baby?” Jon asked.

She didn’t question how he knew. The pain was increasing to the point she couldn’t focus. She pressed her fingers against her temples, hoping to relieve the pressure that was building. She knew it would get worse now that the adrenaline was going away.

Jon handed her two pills and then opened a bottle of water and put it in her hand. He watched her swallow and reached for the container. She shook her head and almost groaned in pain.

“Can I have a few more? Taking two won’t help at all.”

“Is this a migraine, baby?”

“Yes, I don’t have them often, thank God.

If you could just get me home, I’d appreciate it very much.

” She swallowed the last pills, let Koa take the bottle, and leaned her head back against the seat.

A tiny moan slid from her mouth as she closed her eyes.

Even though it was darker in the back of the limo, any light at that moment shot a sharp jagged pain through her head.

****

Koa watched her worriedly. She flinched over every bump in the road. “I’m going to call Jason, have him meet us at home,” he murmured softly.

Koa moved to the other side of the limo, took out his phone, and called one of their good friends that happened to be a doctor. He whispered what the problem was. He relaxed a bit when Jason said he’d meet them there.

He noticed Jon arranging Mina to lie down on the long seat and put her head on his lap. Koa grabbed a blanket from the cabinet and rushed to them. He moved her legs a bit to slide under them and then spread the blanket over her.

They heard her sigh when she pulled the blanket up over her head. Jon continued to stroke her hair under the blanket.

“He’s meeting us there,” Koa said in a stark, worried tone.

Jon nodded and stayed silent. It seemed that noise also made the pain worse.

It took less than half an hour to get back to the mansion. Macy drove up and parked in front. Koa moved to open the door before Macy and pressed a finger to his lips. Macy’s eyebrows came down.

“She has a migraine. We’re going to take her up to bed. Jason’s headed this way.”

Jon pulled her into his arms and then handed her off to Koa. He was relieved when he realized she’d fallen asleep.

The men took the elevator up to the top floor.

Koa lay her carefully on the bed they would all be sharing. He pulled off her shoes and socks. He was unzipping her pants when Jon got back with one of their button-down shirts. Between both of them, they had her undressed, into the shirt, and under the covers within a few minutes.

Koa went around the room and closed the heavy drapes, darkening the room. They turned on the bathroom light and left it open a crack to be able to see.

He heard her talking and walked back to the bed. Jon was on top of the covers next to her, gently moving his fingers through her hair.

“Where am I?”

Koa sat down next to her. He was glad she just looked confused instead of scared.

“You’re at our home, baby,” Jon whispered.

She squinted her eyes open. “Why? I thought you were going to take me home.”

Koa rested his hand on her stomach. “We did, baby. Our home.”

“You guys didn’t need to do that.” She looked from one to the other, making sure to move slowly to keep the pain from overwhelming her. “Don’t worry. A lot of people have migraines. It’s unpleasant, but I’ll be fine. You should take me home.”

“We’d like to keep you here with us so we can watch over you,” Jon said.

“I don’t want to be in the way. Besides, when I feel better, I have to job hunt.” She tried to smile. “Right now, I don’t care I’m jobless. I’m just glad to be away from Mr. Lewis. I will never be able to thank you both enough. I didn’t know what I was going to do.”

Jon bent and placed a kiss on her temple. “You’re welcome, sweetheart. Now rest for a bit. All right?”

Her eyes drifted closed, and she sighed. “I think I will. Just for a little while.”

The men listened as her breathing deepened.

Koa stood when someone tapped on the door to their bedroom.

“Thank you for coming so fast. She’s in so much pain.”

****

“Let’s have a look at her.” Jason stopped next to Koa and gripped his shoulder. “Stop worrying. She’ll feel better in no time.”

Koa relaxed and nodded. “Thanks, man.”

Jason stood by the bed and looked down at the pretty woman. His eyes ran over her face before he glanced at Jon. “What are her symptoms?”

“She complained about a really bad headache, very light- and noise-sensitive.”

Jason nodded. “Sounds like a migraine.” Jason looked around the room. “I’m going to need a light, guys, so I can see.”

Koa turned the light on that sat on the bedside table. “Is this enough, Jason?”

Jason nodded. He sat down next to her hip. He checked her temperature and glands. He pushed the blanket down and pressed on her stomach. He watched carefully to see if there was any tenderness. Lastly, he checked her pupils, knowing it would hurt.

She gasped and flinched away from him.

“Easy, sweetheart. I’m done. I’m sorry I hurt you.”

Mina’s eyes squinted open. “Who are you?”

“I’m a friend of your men and a doctor.”

“A doctor?”

“Well, I played one on TV, that’s enough, right?” he joked.

Her eyes widened at the joke, she chuckled softly, and then her eyes slid closed.

“Since you’re awake. Is there any other pain besides your head you need to tell me about?”

“No,” she said without opening her eyes. “It’s just the average migraine. These guys are worrying for nothing.”

Jason looked from one man to the other and grinned. “Oh, I get the impression they’d be upset if you stubbed your toe.”

She scrunched up her nose and giggled. “That’s silly. We hardly know each other.”

Jason grinned at the possessive look on his friends’ faces. “I don’t think that matters, honey.”

“Ummm,” she hummed. “Can I rest for just a bit?”

“Absolutely. Sleep is exactly what you need. I’m going to give you a shot for the pain. Would that be okay?”

Koa and Jon nodded and blurt out a yes, while Mina just murmured.

Jason bit back a laugh. “This medicine will take effect very quickly, but it will also make you very tired. I need you to roll to your side, honey. I have to give you the shot on your upper buttocks.”

Jon helped her to turn and then pulled the blanket down. Koa stepped in and moved the shirt they put her in up enough to be out of the way, and Jon pulled down her panties a bit.

Jason turned back to the bed with the syringe and had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing. They left a small amount of skin for him to give the shot, they’d made sure the rest of her was covered completely. He wiped the area with an alcohol swab.

“All right, you’ll feel a little prick, honey.”

She nodded slowly.

The men flinched when the needle pierced her skin. Jason noticed and shook his head as he disposed of the syringe. When he turned back, they had her covered completely and were whispering to her.

Koa stood and walked Jason to the door. Jason handed him a few samples of pills and a prescription.

“Have her take these if she has another migraine, but I suggest she go to her family doctor to get checked out. When she wakes, the worst of it should be gone. Give her Tylenol if there’s any headache left.

She will sleep for over twelve hours, so don’t worry.

If she wakes up still in severe pain, call me. ”

Koa rubbed a hand down his face before he patted Jason’s back. “Thanks for coming so fast.”

Jason nodded and looked toward the bed. “You feel deeply about her?”

Koa nodded as his worried gaze cut to the bed.

“I’m happy for you guys.”

“It was damn lucky we met her. We’ll tell you the story later.”

Jason slapped Koa’s shoulder. “I’m looking forward to it. You both need to get some rest. You look like shit,” he said and laughed.

Koa grunted. “Thanks for the advice, Doc.”

Jason raised his hand as he walked away.

Koa closed and locked the door and made his way to bed. He set down the stuff Jason had given him, shucked his clothes, leaving his boxers on, and slid into bed on the other side of her.

Jon moved off the bed. “I’m going to take a quick shower.”

Koa nodded.

Jon was done within a few minutes. He stood over the bed and looked at the two sleeping as he rubbed a towel over his head to dry his hair.

An overwhelming feeling of contentment settled in his chest. This is what they had always talked about.

Sleeping with the one woman they felt they could have a lifelong connection with.

They had shared many women, but none of them came close to the feelings this little woman brought out in them.

He threw the towel onto the chair and slid into bed. He curved his body against her back, lay an arm over her waist, and closed his eyes. Between one breath and the next, he was asleep.
