PROLOGUE

HALLIE

Standing on the pavement, I watch as the firefighters’ boots beat the ground, but there is one in particular I am a little more infatuated with. I notice him before he notices me.

Black hair, pale skin and piercing blue eyes.

He always was the pretty one.

The one that always stood out.

Just as I am about to tear my eyes away, he catches me. Eyes locked, gazes loaded with so much venomous hate.

Neither of us want to break away, I can feel the fire that burns beneath my skin; the fire that shoots through my veins at just looking at him.

We hate each other.

To be honest, I think hate is too soft of a word.

I loathe him.

He is probably secretly wishing I was burning in that building.

This moment felt like time had stopped, when in reality it was just a second or two.

A squeeze to my hand has me dropping my eyes from him and finally I can breathe when I see Harper holding onto me.

I give her a soft nod to her silent question.

It’s only her that knows what Silas is like.

How toxic we are with each other.

He hates me.

I hate him.

He is my arch nemesis.

My enemy.
