Chapter Thirty-Four
Brynne
“I don’t see why you guys need details,” I roll my eyes. “I
thought this whole conversation was supposed to be you guys telling me your plans. Not me explaining how I tortured Max.” I watch Matteo's eyes light up at the mention of torture.
“You can’t mention torture and then not elaborate more,” Matteo whines.
“We just want to make sure he got what he so righteously deserved,” Ryker says from the couch where he and Matteo are sitting. Damon is leaning against the entrance to the dining room and Sawyer is sitting in the recliner right in front of him. I look at the boys and how each of them look so different, but on the inside are the same people.
My phone pings on the coffee table and it’s a text from Clara with more files on David Penfield and Robert Hachett. Damon walks over to the chair where I’m sitting and grabs my phone from my hands. “Hey,” I yell. I cross my arms in aggravation and Ryker smirks.
“Robert Hachett?” Damon says. All of the guys sit forward like they know who that is. “Why do you have files on Robert Hachett?” he asks .
“Max was a talker once he had a few broken bones. He gave me names,” I explain.
“Okay maybe we should just get everything out on the table right now,” Sawyer says.
“Sounds great,” I say and wait for the guys to start talking but they all stare at me instead. I sigh. “I’m guessing you guys know about Sophie?” I ask. Ryker and Matteo nod. “Max told me what happened to her that made her take her own life. It was awful, almost as awful as what I,” I realize I’m about to talk about myself and stop myself. Damon’s eyes darken and I know he will find out eventually what I went through after we got separated, but I’m not about to go talking about it.
“He gave me names. His father used him to lure Sophie and they all took turns with her.” The guy's faces look like they could rip the world apart on their own. I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of their wrath. “David, Max’s father has been doing this for a while. I don’t know about Robert Hachett, but I know he took part that night with Sophie and that’s enough to add him to my list,” I explain.
“It looks like he wanted Epson dead to not raise any suspicion over the affair. Who would want their life under a magnifying glass with secrets like that,” Sawyer says.
“What does Adam have to do with Hachett?” I ask.
“We have a list, but we do jobs on the side. Have you ever heard of The Reaper Boys?” Damon asks.
“Yes, but what does,” I stop myself when the guys all pull their shirts to the side and show me the same matching scars. I saw them on Damon and Matteo the other day, but it was too dark in the woods to see that Ryker and Sawyer had them too. I just thought it was some marking to symbolize their friendship. How did I not realize the connection with the scythe? “It’s you guys?” I ask.
“Yes,” Ryker answers. I raise my eyebrows in surprise.
“Interesting,” I smirk. “So these odd jobs led you to
Adam how?”
“He's sleeping with Robert’s wife,” Matteo says.
“What a scum bag,” I say. He has been trying to ask me out for months and this entire time he was fucking the mayor’s wife. Maybe I should join the guys in killing him. As soon as the thought crosses my mind it's replaced with the consequences of it. The office would be swarming with police and I'd get questioned about his death and I can't have that right now. I’m already getting too close with adding Wyatt to my list.
“You can’t kill him,” I blurt out.
“Why not? After seeing how he was with you at
Alchemy, I would love to see him dead,” Damon shrugs. The only thing that registers is the fact that he was watching me.
“You were stalking me?” I ask.
“Not technically. You just happened to be with Epson, but after I saw you,” he pauses. “Maybe a little,” he adds.
“If you kill Adam, then the office will get questioned about him and I can't have that right now.”
“Why? Do you have a big job coming up?” Matteo
asks.
“Kind of I guess,” I look toward Sawyer. “Look up Wyatt Connors. Clara sent me records on him, but I’m curious if you find anything else.” He smirks and types in his name.
“What do you plan to do with the information you got from Max?” Ryker asks.
“Kill David and Robert of course,” I say sweetly.
“He’s a cop?” Sawyer interrupts .
“You want to be a cop killer now do you little devil,” Damon drawls from behind my chair.
“His wife was one of my patients. She thought her husband was having an affair,” I say.
“Was he?” Matteo asks.
“Yeah, with his daughter. The wife caught him in her bed and told me about it. When I asked if she had gone to the police she said she couldn’t because her husband was an officer and it would be her word against his,” I explain.
“She didn’t kill him herself?” Sawyer asks surprised.
“Worse. She closed the door and didn’t say anything
about it until she came to see me.”
“Then she deserves to die too,” Damon says angrily.
“And leave Sarah an orphan in the foster system? We
both know that isn’t going to be better,” I spat. Damon looks into my eyes and I see the younger version of him when I first met him. When he looked into my eyes and saw how much hurt I had endured. Before he can analyze me further I look away.
“You’re right,” Sawyer cuts in.
“So does that mean we all are working together now?” Matteo asks.
“ Yes,” Damon answers.
“Okay, so if we don’t kill Epson then what does that mean about the person that has been threatening you?” Ryker asks Damon. I look up at Damon.
“Sawyer is searching for the person,” Damon explains.
“Send the number to Clara. She can look into it too,” I demand Sawyer. He nods and types on his computer. Clara didn’t believe me when I told her everything that had happened in the past few days. When I explained that it was Damon she understood. I got the whole talk about them being dangerous and she sent me files on each of them. They are either good at what they do, or the police are too stupid to pin anything on them.
The only mark was on Damon's file for shoplifting as a teen. I’m guessing that is how he landed back into foster care after that night. The rest of the guys were clean besides some bar fights here and there. Most of the world may fear the Reaper Boys, but they’re nothing compared to the real monsters.
I didn’t plan on fucking them as soon as I did, but I can't get enough ever since the woods. I still haven’t had the opportunity to have all of them at the same time. I've never been nervous about something more than that in my life.
“ So Wyatt Connors then?” Ryker asks.
“We will get him out of the way and move on to David. We need to make sure we are careful when it comes to Robert,” Damon says.
“David is going to be tricky too. His house is set up worse than the white house with security,” Matteo says.
“You haven’t been able to hack into the system?” I ask Sawyer. He looks at me like I offended him.
“Only me and Matteo went. We haven’t brought Sawyer with us yet,” Ryker says.
“I can get through anything thank you very much. I managed to get through Clara's system,” Sawyer jokes.
I laugh. “Sorry,” I draw out. I feel a hand on my
shoulder and I look up at Damon. He squeezes my shoulder and I look into his eyes. There’s this sense of feeling at home.
I look at every one of the boys in my living room.
Watching them joke with each other is the oddest image. They don’t look like the nicest group of men, but I feel like I can relax with them around. It feels weird to have more people who know who I truly am. I may be able to get used to them being around more often. Anyone who crosses our path is going to be sorry they ever met us. I’m a powerhouse by myself but now that I have my boys with me, we will wipe this world like a fucking rapture. The men on our list should count their days because they're numbered.
