A happy ending in the saga of the John Constable painting that was stolen from a North Norfolk gallery.
The painting has been returned, undamaged, and the gallery has been saved from closure.
Nathan Spencer, the gallery’s curator, said he was delighted by the public’s response to the news of the theft, including several celebrities who offered to auction their underpants.
It also brought the gallery’s plight to the attention of grant givers, and it is rumored that the gallery will be receiving lottery funding.
Mr. Spencer said he could not comment on that at this time, but claims that the painting never left the building are unfounded.
He was able to reveal that the owner of the building, Mr. Jordon Boyce, has accepted an offer to sell the well-known historical landmark to a local business owner.
The unknown benefactor wishes to remain anonymous, with the only stipulation being that the gallery ensure information headsets are always compatible with hearing aids.
Police say they have made no further progress in discovering who was responsible for the theft.
