Chapter 23

Nashen

Canton Valley Farm

The others would kick me square in my furry ass if they knew what I was up to.

Bernard was taking a post romping nap and Diamond had taken Bree out to the lake.

They were debating whether or not to build a nest at our house.

I thought they should because I didn’t think Diamond was going anywhere until she figured out how to get rid of Ferrick for good.

That dragoness held a grudge and for good reason.

Still, I found myself upstairs in the room filled with climbing towers with the page torn from Pras Moonscale’s book.

With all the talk about Sharon Claudis being in the well and how we might be able to lock her in, I couldn’t stop thinking about the one person I knew who was able to lock people under the ground better than anyone else I’d ever met.

If Pami wanted revenge and a redemption arc like some movie supervillain this was her one and only shot.

Diamond and Clarence would probably kick my ass if they knew I was about to undo their hard work.

Sure, Pami wasn’t mentally well and she had killed since she died, but she wanted Sharon Claudis to suffer.

Being locked underground instead of running around to kill her relatives sounded like a good way to ensure she suffered.

Maybe then Pami would finally move on and rest.

“Easy does it,” my lynx whispered. “Just a bit off that o looking one. We don’t want to let Ferrick out. His scaley ass can just stay in there.”

“Pami,” I whispered at the paper. “Can you hear me?”

“I can hear you! Nashen! Nashen! I can hear you, brother!” she shouted back to me.

“Shut up, you stupid little cunny!” Ferrick roared.

“Blow it out your ass, you washed up hasbeen! No one even liked you when you were a current event!” Pami shouted back at the dragon. “Now you’re just a faded old hag jealous because his mate dicked everyone down except for him!”

“Pami! Focus! I need your help!”

Both spirits went quiet for a second. Then Ferrick spoke before I could.

“Help you say? Help the one who carries the bastard’s descendant? HA! Ouch! Don’t pinch me! Who do you think you are? You and your bony little bitch ghost fingers!”

I stifled a laugh. This wasn’t funny but at least Pami still seemed to want to have my back.

“Pami, I need you to focus and stop putting the dragon’s bed-death in its place. I have a way to take care of Sharon,” I told her.

“I’m all ears!” Ferrick said.

“I bet you are,” Pras said from the doorway and I started, grabbing one of the smaller cat towers and almost throwing it at him.

“Stop that,” the ghost shook his head. “I don’t think it’s a bad idea after hearing what she did to that poor guy she kept buried for years.

Perhaps we should bring Canton and the others in on the idea. ”

“Absolutely not,” I said, my head shaking violently. “The more people who know about it, the more of a chance that she hears it. We need stealth on our side.”

“Why are you so determined to trust your sister after what she did to Bree?” Pras asked. “She was stalking you too.”

Neither of those things were a lie. Still. I bit my lip. Was Pami as dangerous as Sharon Claudis? I didn’t like to think so. She didn’t have a way to resurrect herself. She might even move on if we gave her the right motivation.

“Perhaps, she’d tell us how to perform the spell,” Pras suggested, but that was never going to happen.

Pami didn’t share her magical secrets with anyone.

She’d take them to her eternal grave if she had her way.

“Or perhaps you’d like to talk to the wolf with the rest of the book.

He mutters in his sleep and has some interesting ideas. ”

“No,” I shook my head. “This is the only way forward!”

“You leave me no choice,” Pras sighed and took a deep breath. I tried to get up to put my hand over his mouth or do something to quieten him down, but my pregnancy was beginning to weigh on me. I wasn’t as agile as I was when I only carried myself around.

“BERNARD! BERNARD!” Pras shouted at the top of his dead lungs. “BERNARD! COME QUICK! I THINK PAMI HAS BESPELLED YOUR MATE! OH, BERNARD! IT’S HORRIBLE! SHE’S BESPELLED NASHEN INTO ATTEMPTING TO FREE HER!”

Bernard staggered into the room, his eyes fogged with sleep.

He blinked at Pras and then at me. He looked me up and down and sniffed.

It was just me and the page from the book.

Well, me and my little baby bump molding my robes so that it was impossible to ignore the fact a kitten was growing inside me.

“I… I’m not bespelled,” I said.

“Pras, he’s allowed to talk to his sister. Sheesh,” Bernard rolled his eyes and plopped down on the floor beside me and stretched out. “Hell, I’ll sleep in here if it stops you from raising hell.”

Pras didn’t need Bernard to believe his lie. He merely needed him in the same room as me so that I didn’t free Pami.

“Pami, are you still there?” I called out.

“She’s done moved to another page,” Ferrick said. “You’ll have to talk to me.”

“Shut up, egg smasher,” I rolled my eyes.
