Chapter 28

Mori

Moonscale London

I sat in the dark staring at Philip and Canton on the video call.

They were in the loft office of Canton’s barn and swore we had privacy.

I still wasn’t going to give them full details of what to expect.

They just needed to get me there with Pras’s book in tow and go inside with the doors shut and the curtains drawn.

Then Pami could do her thing, and we’d be two ghosts down and only have the men left to deal with.

I’d talked the dead woman through the ritual several times already.

Snowy leapt up onto my lap, walked in a circle a few times, and then laid down.

I stroked his hair as I ran through my demands again.

I felt like a supervillain, stroking my pet and not giving details that the older men were desperate for.

I half-expected one or both of them to call the whole thing off.

“I’ll arrive at Crow’s Beak Airport. One or both of you will be there waiting for me alone.

I’ll be covered from head to toe in pheromone blocker spray.

Whoever is with me will be too. You’ll sniff me to ensure none of my actual scent is detectable.

Then I’ll get into the vehicle – after checking to ensure it’s only you two.

I’ll get down low in the backseat to ensure no one can see me.

You’ll drive and act like I’m not there. Like don’t even think about me.”

“Is this so she won’t sense you coming?” Canton asked.

“Something like that,” I nodded. “By the time you leave the farm, you should have already ensured that no one from the Cuddle Club will be anywhere near the well you believe she’s in.

You’ll park and double-check that. Then come back for me.

I’ll ride piggyback to the well and stand on the blanket you put there beforehand. ”

Philip stifled a laugh and Canton elbowed him. The rabbit shifter was right, this wasn’t funny. This was life or death. This might be the only way I could protect my true-mate. I needed everyone to take it seriously.

“Then we go inside, lock the doors, and pretend we don’t exist,” Philip said. “You want us to stay inside until sunrise. If I didn’t know your parents, Mori, I’d think you intended on robbing us or burning down the farm.”

“There will be no candles. This battle will be fought on a spiritual front. There will be little for any living spirit to do,” I explained for the countless time.

“You should all go about your normal night. Just no one from The Cuddle Club can come near me. I mean it. I see one person who works there I’ll leave so quickly that you’ll think I’m the ghost.”

“Mori, what’s going on?” Philip asked.

“I’m trying to keep someone from resurrecting herself,” I said.

“That’s all the information the spirits will let me give you at this time.

I apologize for the vagueness but anyone who has ever worked with spirits will tell you they have many demands.

I mean, look at Clarence and Medwin locked away bowing to the demands of Pras.

It’s not easy working with spirits. It’s not easy holding onto information.

One day, I’ll explain everything. Probably not as soon as you would like. ”

“After the ritual is complete?” Philip asked.

“Unfortunately, it will be longer than that. With this particular ritual, I fear not even a year and a day is long enough to ensure this particular nuisance remains in the Other World. I think we’ll triple it.

Three years and three days. Yes,” I nodded to myself, knowing they’d assume I was nodding to someone else.

It wasn’t a total lie. Venal and I had talked this in circles before I locked him in my step tracking ring.

I couldn’t risk him warning his mother. He’d run back to her so many times in his life that I didn’t trust the hairy fucker not to do the same in death.

It was cruel of me, but he’d stay there until his mother moved onto the Grove of Souls or whatever his family’s version of that was. I wasn’t taking any chances.

“If you try any funny business, don’t think I won’t kick your ass just because your Xenos’s omega son,” Canton said. “Usually I’d insist on being around, but I get it.”

“Usually, I’d insist on you being around, but if someone sees you, the others might come and it’s important that I have no contact with ---”

“Anyone who works at The Cuddle Club,” Philip nodded.

“I’ve looked at all their photos. I will know them if you try to pull any funny business,” I said, scratching behind Snowy’s ear.

“What makes you think we have a hankerin’ to kill off someone from there?” Philip asked, adjusting his hat.

“I don’t but sometimes people don’t take me seriously.”

“Mori, I think we’ve taken you more than seriously. If just about anyone else suggested this, we’d tell them to fuck off,” Philip said. “But she came from here. It’s our job to do whatever we can to ensure she doesn’t make it back here in this lifetime.”

“Thank you both. I have a few more things to prepare for before the big night. I’ll forward my flight information the morning of. Goodnight, gentlemen,” I said and ended the call before either of them could respond.

The rest of my night was one hundred percent focused on writing Pami’s letter for her while she dictated.

She was a violent pain in the ass but the letter was more for Nashen than it was for her.

He deserved closure. Maybe he’d sleep better knowing his sister helped to get rid of Sharon Claudis for good.
