Chapter 16
The sound of my phone ringing woke me from my slumber. I tried to move but realized a hard body was planted firmly against me with an arm wrapped tightly around my waist. I looked back to see Devin knocked out. I smiled. I couldn’t believe we’d taken things there last night, but I had to admit his mouth was good for more than talking shit and cursing.
The orgasm he gave me was so long overdue and so fucking needed. It took everything in me to make it to the bathroom and clean myself up. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.
Reaching over, I grabbed the phone from my nightstand to see my sister calling. Swiping to answer, I placed it to my ear.
“Hey, Nay.”
“Don’t ‘hey, Nay’ me, ho. I know this ain’t who I think it is parked outside your house.”
“Wait, are you outside?”
“Duh, bitch. Me and my niece were coming to scoop you up for a breakfast date. Did you get some dick last night, Romi?”
“I know you didn’t ask me that in front of my baby.”
“Girl, no. Korri is in the car. I’m outside, looking through this man’s windows. This shit is clean!”
“Renay!” I whispered harshly. “Stop!”
“Ugh. Fine. But answer my question. Did you. Get some. Dick?”
“No… I got some mouth though?—”
Her squeals of excitement echoed in my ear.
“That’s what the fuck I’m talking about! Make him a munch. Aye!”
In my head, I could see her dancing as she said that. I rolled my eyes.
“You’re being dramatic.”
“No. I’m just happy you aren’t letting a little pregnancy stop you from getting some. I knew you liked that man. All those lunch dates and him waiting to check the house for you. Baby, that sounds like love to me.”
“Bye, Renay. I’ll be out in a little bit. I have to shower.”
“Wait! Just tell me, was it good?”
“The best.”
She squealed again. “I love it! Okay, go on and wash up. Me and KoKo are coming in. I’ll keep her out here.”
“Thank you.”
I hung up the phone and placed it back on the nightstand.
“Devin,” I whispered, elbowing him.
“I’m awake. Your sister is loud as fuck this early.”
I giggled. “Always. Can you let me go?”
“Nah.”
He pulled me closer to him and peppered my face with kisses. I giggled uncontrollably because this wasn’t something I expected from him. It was cute… nice.
“Sir, I have to pee, and my bladder is weak as hell with this little girl.”
He chuckled as he released me. “Go ahead, man.”
I tossed back the covers and stood from the bed, rushing into the bathroom to relieve myself. Once I was done, I turned on the shower and went back to the bedroom.
“I’m about to?—”
I stopped at the sight of Devin’s big, thick ass standing there in nothing but his boxers, typing away on his phone. His dick print stared back at me. The man wasn’t even fully hard, yet the dick was planted against his thigh. My mouth watered. I could have had that last night.
When he looked up and saw me staring, he smirked.
“My eyes are up here, baby.”
I blinked. “Uh? Oh! Shit, I’m sorry.”
He tossed his phone on the bed and walked over to me. “Whatchu’ sorry for?” he asked, peering down at me. “My face was covered in your juices last night, and you wanna apologize for looking at my dick? Don’t play that innocent shit this morning. What did you need?”
I blushed. “I was about to get in the shower. My sister and Korri are here for a breakfast date.”
“That’s cute. I’ma hop in with you so I can head out.”
He dropped his boxers, and my eyes dropped too. Shit! I was expecting a big dick, but that curve was lethal. That girth would have me stalking his big fine ass.
I swallowed hard. “Okay.”
I turned and walked back into the bathroom, praying God gave me strength.
Thirty minutes later, we were stepping out of the shower and drying off. While we hadn’t had sex, he had given me another round of pleasure with his fingers that had me creaming all over his hand. He had to cover my mouth to keep me from crying out as I came. Dealing with this man was bound to have me in preterm labor.
I had to pull myself together before heading out front. Putting on my best smile, I left my bedroom with Devin right behind me carrying his duffel bag. I could hear my sister and Korri in the kitchen, probably looking for a pre-breakfast snack. Devin dropped his bag by the door and followed me into the kitchen so I could officially introduce him to Renay.
Korri was the first to see us. She was sitting at the kitchen island, munching on a cup of yogurt. I would have been mortified about her sitting there knowing this man had my bare ass in that very spot last night. Luckily, he’d cleaned it. That didn’t stop my face from growing red with embarrassment. Korri hopped down and ran to me.
“Good morning, Mommy!” she said, throwing her arms around my waist.
“Good morning, my beautiful girl. Mommy missed you. I can’t wait to spend the whole day with you.”
“We’re gonna have so much fun.”
“Yes, we are. You remember Mr. Devin?”
She looked around me at Devin and smiled. Walking over to him, she extended her hand.
“Good morning, Mr. Devin.”
She flashed him her beautiful smile as he stooped to be eye level with her.
“Good morning, lil’ bit. How are you?”
“I’m good. What are you doing at my house? Were you teaching Mommy a lesson?”
“He sure was!” Renay quipped, sipping from her coffee mug.
I threw a glare at her.
“What did you teach her?” Korri asked, oblivious to her aunt’s ignorance.
“Nothing that would interest you, baby girl,” Devin answered. “Boring adult stuff.”
I swooped in to change the subject. “Devin, this is my sister, Renay. Renay, this is Devin Dillinger.”
“What’s up, sis?”
“My, my, my. Aren’t we friendly. It’s nice to meet you, Devin. I’ve heard a lot about you, and I’m sure I’ll be hearing more.”
I palmed my face. “Oh my God.”
He grinned and shook his head. Korri tapped his shoulder.
“Are you hanging out with us today?” she asked.
“I can’t. Besides, I don’t want to interrupt your fun time with mommy and auntie. Maybe we can hang out another day and do something fun. What do you like to do?”
She started naming things on her fingers. “Paint, play games, listen to music… ooo! I like Legos!”
“Really? I have a sister that loves Legos. She has a whole basement full of them.”
Korri’s eyes widened. “Really! Can I play with her? Is she my age?”
Devin chuckled. “She’s twenty-six.”
Korri gasped. “Isn’t she too big to play with Legos?”
“Not at all, lil’ bit. It makes her happy, and you should always do what makes you happy, no matter how old you are.”
“I guess you’re right. You think she’ll play Legos with me?”
He chuckled. “I’m sure she would. Maybe one of these days I’ll introduce you to her. Until then…” He pulled his wallet from his pocket. He fished out a hundred-dollar bill and handed it to Korri, who stood there wide-eyed. “Why don’t you buy yourself a new Lego set.”
She gasped. “You mean it?” she asked, looking up at me.
“Of course I mean it.”
“Thank you!”
“You’re welcome.”
She threw her arms around Devin’s neck in a hug before running off to show my sister. I shook my head as he stood to his feet.
“You really didn’t have to do that, Devin,” I said softly.
“I know. Make sure she gets her Legos.”
“I will. Let me walk you out.”
He reached for my hand. “It was nice to officially meet you, Renay. Good to see you again, Korri.”
Renay and Korri smiled and waved as we headed for the front door. Stepping onto the front porch, he slipped an arm around my waist and pulled me into him as far as my belly would let him.
“I enjoyed having you here,” I said, peering up at him. “I felt safe.”
“You’ll be safe soon.”
“What does that?—”
“Don’t ask questions you really don’t want the answer to, love. At this point, just believe whatever grimy shit you’ve heard about my family when it comes to niggas like him. I’m gonna take care of it.”
I didn’t know what to say. I’d heard plenty of things about the Dillingers and their… illegal activities. I’d heard the lengths they’d go to protect those that needed protection. It wasn’t a secret, and I knew they had to hold major weight in the city to walk around like they do.
“Hey,” Devin said, cupping my chin. “I got this shit. I got you. Don’t worry.” He pressed his lips to mine a few times before stepping back. He pulled out his wallet once again and handed me three hundred-dollar bills. “I gotta go, but breakfast is on me. Share your location with me so I can keep an eye on you. Have fun today.” He gave my stomach a gentle rub. “Don’t give your mama a hard time.”
I smiled softly as I watched him walk to his car. Once he was gone, I went back inside, only to run smack into my sister who wore the biggest grin on her face.
“Were you watching us?”
“Sure was. Sissy, y’all are too cute together.”
I rolled my eyes. “Where is Korri?”
“She went to find a purse to put her hundred dollars in.” She pulled me over to the couch and set me down. “Now spill the beans.”
“Renay—”
“Aht aht! I don’t wanna hear excuses, just tea. You let that man spend the night? Why?”
“Because… he came to check on me. One thing led to another. One minute I was eating an ice cream sundae, and the next I was on the countertop, and I’d become the sundae.”
She squealed. “Eeek! I love it. Wait, did you say the countertop? Where we eat?”
“He cleaned it!”
“Oh, you nasty, nasty. I know that big ass man had them legs in the air. And you thought he wouldn’t want you because you’re pregnant. Like you ain’t a whole bad bitch out here.”
I giggled. I loved my sister. She was my best friend and forever down for me. When I got pregnant at eighteen, she made sure she came to every appointment with Corey and I. She threw my baby shower and catered to me the entire day before, to get me ready. When I gave birth to Korri, she was right by my side, crying as I brought her favorite little person into the world.
The night we lost Corey, I’d called her crying my eyes out. She was on a date and stole that man’s car to come be with me. Everything I’d ever been through in life, she’d always been right by my side.
“You never let me forget that I’m pressure.”
“Never. Sarah and Carlton raised some beautiful girls, and you’re doing the same. You deserve to be happy. Look at you, Ro. You’re glowing right now, sis. Shit, maybe I need some new dick to put a smile on my face.”
“It wasn’t the dick. It was the mouth. What a mouth it was… oh my God. Whew!”
She grinned. “Look at you over here getting all hot and bothered over that man. Did you at least see the dick?”
I nodded. “Girl, I’ve committed it to memory.”
“So… are the stories true? ’Cause I’ve heard talk about that man walking around with a third leg. Girl, you have to be careful. We don’t need my niecey poo coming early.” She bent over to rub and kiss my belly. “Ain’t that right, Juri? Tell your mama and stepdaddy they have to let you finish baking, pud!”
I rolled my eyes. “I cannot. Stepdaddy? I’ve only known the man a little over a month, Renay.”
“I’m speaking it into existence. I’ve been manifesting a good man for you, just as hard as I’ve been manifesting one for myself. We’re getting a ring one of these days.”
I nodded. I wanted that. I wanted my baby to have a whole family, with a mother and father. True, she had a family. It wasn’t like she came from a broken home. Her father was gone, at no fault of his own. My father and Corey’s father were great with her, and she wasn’t lacking on any love. I wasn’t desperate enough to put up with any old thing for the sake of having a man.
If I never found a husband, she would be okay.
The sound of my baby running down the stairs broke me from my thoughts.
“I’m ready!” she announced, posing with her little crossbody bag.
I could guarantee the only thing in there was her money, phone, and the ChapStick she loved so much. I guess all a girl needed were her essentials. Renay helped me up from the couch, and I went to grab my things so we could go. I hoped today was as good a day as I promised my baby.
